‘One last mission’ for Pace.

By Amanda Terkel on Oct 15th, 2007 at 4:32 pm

‘One last mission’ for Pace.

Today, RedState urges Gen. Peter Pace “to serve once more a proud and grateful nation that desperately needs the unique leadership only he can offer.” They link to One Last Mission, an “open letter” and donation page to draft Pace to run for U.S. Senate:

pppppace.jpg General, the American people need your leadership in the U.S. Senate. The outcome of even one Senate race could mean the difference between pushing on towards victory and being driven from the field and rendering meaningless the blood that has been spilt in the sands of Iraq and Afghanistan. We cannot afford to be represented by a September 10th politician. We cannot spare you now.

Earlier this month, the National Review also called to draft Pace, writing, “Virginia Republicans should tell this devoted patriot that he is not done.”

Pace is as done as Generalissimo Francisco Franco.

  2. Juan C. says:

    Hahahahaha.

    One last movie, John Rambo!!!

  3. Shayne says:

Go ahead and run General. We could use some laughs around here. I’d love to find out what skeletons you have in your closet since you’re so against homosexuals. Your almost as passionate as Larry Craig, say, can we see your stance?

  4. Guido OBGYN Lover says:

    Never heard of him.

  5. lefty says:

Man they are just begging for a military dictatorship.

  6. oldtree says:

Hard to imagine redstate simpering to a war criminal. Thought they had more balls than to embrace someone they know to be against all things America used to stand for.
Pathetic that the republicans are still showing how much and how many people they hate. It is and always will be helpful if democracy survives, but striking in how eager they are to show their hatred for anything that doesn’t agree with them. They have told every race but white that they hate and loathe them, and will in fact attempt to kill them.
    how the mighty fall

  7. The Dogfather says:

On behalf of all Virginia progressives, I also URGE General Pace to run for Senate. This way, we’ll have an even EASIER time of finishing the conversion of our Commonwealth to a Blue state by electing former Gov. Mark Warner.

Sheesh — didn’t the repukes learn ANYTHING when they tried to run Ollie North years ago in Virginia???

  8. missmolly says:

I hope he does run. There will be both a Republican nominee and a Democratic nominee running for Warner’s seat. If Pace is the Repub nominee, he will be easily beaten no matter who the Dems put up as their candidate.

Pace may have fans at RedState, but to the rest of the world, he’s too associated with Bush, the war in Iraq, and homophobia. I can’t imagine Virginians sending a guy like that to Washington.

If I was Pace, I think I would do what others in his position do. Keep my military career intact (getting into politics will sully that military career), and enjoy my retirement by public speaking and writing books. Why he would even want to run for office is beyond me.

  9. nynick says:

They’re crazy. Most military men who decide to run for office won the wars they’re best known for. It doesn’t really work the same when the war you were in charge of is a debacle. RedState and The Corner are echo chambers which might explain why they find this draft Pace idea such a good one. I hope they do draft the guy.
We may finally get some answers.

  10. StratRat says:

That abusive and authoritarian tendency is seen as ‘love’ and ’safety’ by these sad little wingnuts.

    Comment by republicans hate facts

Exactly! I am beating and spying on you because I love you!

  11. Zimzone says:

Peter Pace Picked A Peck of Picked Publicans (say 3 x, fast)

  12. Zimzone says:

  13. The Dogfather says:

    Zim — if I say it 3x fast, won’t I turn into a newt (or a Newt)?

  14. helenahandbasket says:

Redhate is simply trying to “pick up the pace”, but running this general will make their hopes “peter out”.

  15. bilbobaggins says:

Hey, I’m all for it. If they want to spend their red dollars on running Pace, so be it. That will be that much less Republican money for other candidates that have even a slight chance of winning. I am so looking forward to November 2008! Maybe all their heads will explode at the same time.

  16. Leftside Annie says:

Outta the way — I’m gonna HURL!!!

  17. NoMoreBush says:

Yes, please run for Senate. Frankly, it matters little which Republican runs because Mark Warner is going to win. Easily. He has extraordinary approval ratings and has great crossover appeal. Please, if Pace runs we can all be reminded that he is part of the Iraq war machine — that most popular and successful of foreign policy successes brought to you by the GOP.

  18. Jackie says:

Well here’s another General to keep the mission going or is it Victory or Mission done what ever. Looks like State Republicans are getting a little low these days. I guess it’s those Christian Family Values and Morals that is having a problem with the GOP. More Criminal GOP Law Makers are resigning before they get indicted and others are still attacking kids for sex, hiring prostitutes and lying through their teeth. I hope they don’t run out and go so far as to ask convicted felon Scooter Libby or kicked out Al Gonzales to run. Look maybe Sara Taylor is available she lies good under oath or Karl Rove who needs some extra money. To bad the GOP can’t bring back the dead now that would be a big help. Yes the famous Richard Milhouse Nixon could be Senator of Virginia or maybe Cheney would put his hat in the ring. Satan’s having trouble getting his followers elected.

  19. SuperEdo says:

A September 10th politician, eh? I think I’d prefer that. Maybe they could stop the attack before it happened instead of manipulating it for political gain for years afterwards.

  20. Nat says:

I think this is a bad move. Wouldn’t it be some sh*t if he ran and lost?

  21. RUCerious says:

Peter Pan Pace better have Tinkerbelle lined up to do his PR.
He’s gonna need a shitload of pixie dust to get elected to anything higher than street sweeper.

  22. Marie says:

The Republiscum are really desperate for any candidate. Pace would suffer a humiliating defeat if he ran for office in VA. Better follow in the steps of Oliver North and get a job as a “commentator” on FAUX News. At least Pace hasn’t been convicted of a felony – yet.

  23. DallasNE says:

Gen. Pace is from New Jersey. While I suppose he could declare Virginia to be his primary residence and qualify for the Virginia ballot he would have the carpetbagger issue to confront.

    http://www.dodig.osd.mil/IGInformation/archives/pace_bio.pdf

That obviously doesn’t disqualify him but it would show him as an opportunist. Other highly visible people have done a similar thing, Sen. Clinton coming to mind.

  24. natisman says:

Maybe he could change his name to Eisenhower and have an alcoholic wife and play lots of golf.

  25. Chocolate Jesus says:

hey exlexia, if pace runs for office will it be acceptable to “swiftboat” him with false allegations just like was done to kerry? ( set aside for a moment any other sins kerry may have committed in your eyes and focus solely on the unsubstantiated, years after the fact allegations that were made against kerry. )

would it be acceptable to make allegations against pace that has as much political motivation and as little corroboration as the swiftboats ads had?
