Y’know, this morning when this story broke I googled about the left wing sickos who discussed online just how exactly they’d like to brutalize and rape Ann Coulter. It was very, very sick and I too was repulsed. Coulter and Rhodes are polar opposites and both pretty extreme, but neither of them deserves violence be visited upon them, and I hope Rhodes recovers from whatever it was that DID happen.

As an Irishman, I know that I have had a few self inflicted sudden deceleration syndrome incidents late at night that left me going, “What the hell just happened?” Thank the gods that dogs can’t talk….

The hot story around the blogosphere today is the alleged mugging and beating of Air America’s Randi Rhodes. After several hours of hyperbolic venting about an “attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own,” her own staff reports that she wasn’t mugged at all but “was injured in a fall while walking her dog.” This, naturally, has led to hyperbolic venting on the right wing blogs about the left wing smear machine’s rush to judgment. (I should note that quite a few, on both sides, merely wished Rhodes a speedy recovery and cautioned that we should wait for me details before flying off the handle.)

That it now seems that Rhodes was merely the victim of an accident (she says “she’s not sure what happened”) is a cautionary tale about getting ahead of the facts, certainly, but hardly an indicator of a tendency peculiar to the Left; I suspect we’d have seen the same happen in reverse if Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity had been injured.

The DailyKos (and others) is now saying that apparently Randi Rhodes wasn’t even attacked. They have a link to the AirAmerica Radio’s website, but when I follow it, I cannot find the article clarifying what happened. Even Rhodes’ attorney is challenging the original story, and Elliot is retracting it.

Was she attacked, or wasn’t she? Did she lose teeth, as the initial report had it, or didn’t she?

What in the world is going on?

At any rate, I hope she recovers soon.

Air America radio host Randi Rhodes is temporarily off the air, but claims she was brutally attacked near her Manhattan apartment are bogus, her lawyer and a police source said today.

Fellow host Jon Elliott claimed on the liberal radio network that Rhodes had been mugged while walking her dog, Simon, on Sunday night. Elliot, who said Rhodes lost several teeth in the attack, waxed about a possible conspiracy.

“Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?” he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. “Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we’re winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?”

A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan’s 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said.

Rhodes’ lawyer told the Daily News she was injured in a fall while walking her dog. He said she’s not sure what happened, and only knows that she fell down and is in a lot of pain. The lawyer said Rhodes expects to be back on the air Thursday. He stressed there is no indication she was targeted or that she was the victim of a “hate crime.”

Rhodes started with the Air America when it launched in 2004. Her show airs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

The network released a statement that said Rhodes “experienced an unfortunate incident.”

“The reports of a presumed hate crime are unfounded,” the statement read by a receptionist at the network’s New York offices said. “Ms. Rhodes is looking forward to being back on the air on Thursday.”

Still, the tale lived on in the blogosphere.

Nowhere did I claim that Randi was mugged, Keltoi…in fact, I pointed out earlier that since she was in a jogging suit with no purse or visible jewelry, it was probably not a mugging.

However, you’re trying to make the case that no mugging == no assault, despite conceding earlier that there could have been assault without mugging.

Think before you post next time, Keltoi…I don’t want to have to go over this with you again.

I stand corrected, slightly, as Hitler was a man who detested Chirstianity for what it was at the time and felt it needed to be “modified” because it was weak. Parallel that to many moderate muslims, they would say, Osama Bin Laden is not a muslim in similar fashion.
