The director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Scott Redd, tells NBC News that, “in the short term,” the Iraq war “probably” has created a “giant recruiting tool” for terrorists. In response to a question about whether the US is generally safer after having invaded Iraq, “tactically, probably not,” Redd responded. “Strategically, we’ll wait and see.”

Of course it has. That was this administration’s plan, after all…
If you’re going to have a perpetual War on Terror, it’s always handy to have a terrorist generator running.
October 16th, 2007 at 10:30 amDoes anyone with a brain really feel safer? We’re pissing off most of the world these days, for starters. Then we have nut job righties who truly believe violence is an answer.
It’s logical that these same righties use violence in the name of freedom, but never served. Most of us who served saw death & mayhem up close & personal. We also saw a system that rewards discipline and unquestioning loyalty, but will spit you out in an instant for the slightest discrepancy.
‘We’ll fight them over there so ‘I’ don’t have to get involved’ is the new rightard mantra.
Tactically, this was a snafu from the get go. Now they’re trying to find a slogan that will make everyone feel better.
What’s the terror index today? If Bush is speaking, it should be on RED.
October 16th, 2007 at 10:34 amlets see, what comes to mind….. NO DUH!
October 16th, 2007 at 10:38 amIs this guy nutty or what? Everybody knows that the war has generated al-quaeda apologists in Iraq. Hell, even dumb-ass Bushco have been forced to admit the obvious…..
October 16th, 2007 at 10:38 am…but…but…but…aren’t we fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here? Haven’t we been told that our country will be safe as long we we are waging war in Iraq? Haven’t we been told that war is peace?
October 16th, 2007 at 10:50 amScott Redd will be revising that statement by lunchtime. He was obviously taken out of context. What he meant to say was “yes yes yes!! We’re all safer from everything!!”, but somehow that got lost in editing. Or something.
Or else Mr. Redd will be unemployed by Monday.
October 16th, 2007 at 10:59 amTactically - no
Strategically - maybe.
Do the terrorists know the difference?
Do we?
October 16th, 2007 at 11:08 amUh-oh!! His Kool-aid IV must have come unhooked!!
NEW IV — STAT!!
October 16th, 2007 at 11:09 ambut in my “Bigfoot’s Unabridged Dictionary” it says “safer” means “in a bigger safe”…and I think america is a bigger safe than we were before 9-11, ergo we must be “safer”
October 16th, 2007 at 11:14 amanybody know whether we should bomb these kids now or wait till they hit puberty then bomb them? I guess anytime AFTER birth is ok, right Bigfoot?

October 16th, 2007 at 11:16 amThe Republican spin machine will put it differently… you may not be safer as a result of the Iraq war, but you’re safer then you would have been if the Iraq war had not happened. Much like the spin on the price of oil (a la Greenspan)… you went to Iraq to keep the price of oil low… sure it’s $86 now but it would have been $130 if you had not attacked Iraq. You’re not thinking with a post-9/11 mindset. Everything is better because of the Iraq war then it would have been without the Iraq war. And it’s exponential. Once Iran is attacked terrorism will increase a ton and the price of oil will double or triple… but they’ll still be lower then the would have been had you not attacked Iran. Fun stuff eh?
October 16th, 2007 at 11:19 amNo terrorist attacks on U.S. soil in 6 years. Yes, I feel safer.

How many attacks on US soil did we have under Clinton?
This is from a previous post:
The fact is, America and American interests have been attacked 9 times by terrorists since 9-11 (including the still unsolved Anthrax murders).

October 16th, 2007 at 11:36 amTactically, not, Strategically not.
The failed policies of the Bushits have placed this nation in more peril than we faced prior to 9/11.
More Muslims have devoted their lives to our destruction, more people in the world hate us, and we are making enemies faster than we can kill them…
Heckuva job, chympie.
October 16th, 2007 at 11:42 am>No terrorist attacks on U.S. soil in 6 years.
Before 9-11 there had been no terrorist attacks attacks on domestic soil for over 6 years. and the only terrorist attack before that was christian terrorist tim mcveigh. whats your point?
what exactly did Bush do to prevent Rich Reid from blowing up a plane over the united states?
October 16th, 2007 at 11:42 amNo terrorist attacks on U.S. soil in 6 years. Yes, I feel safer.

Interestingly, it was six years between the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City and 9/11.
Just saying.
October 16th, 2007 at 11:44 amMore left nut lib talking points! Can’t you come up with something new???
October 16th, 2007 at 11:52 am>Just a little Anthrax between friends eh?
Havent you heard… Rush just described Democratic senators offices and tabloid newspapers as “phony soil”.. they dont count!
October 16th, 2007 at 11:54 amIn other news, snow discovered to be cold.
October 16th, 2007 at 12:11 pmStrategically maybe. Yeah, maybe 50 years from now we’ll be safer, because we will have learned to NEVER put an imbecile like Bush in charge of the country again. But oh the price we will pay between now and then.
October 16th, 2007 at 12:22 pmNo terrorist attacks on U.S. soil in 6 years. Yes, I feel safer.

What about the 3800+ American soldiers killed and the thousands of better trained terrorists now on the lose. Your little world encompasses about 1 square yard, doesn’t it? If the furriners are not under your bed or down the street - we are all safer? I know you don’t get out too much, but the world is rather big and complicated. Bankrupting our treasury and sending our brave soldiers to die in an illegal war should be your priorities - not telling educated people that you feel safer. As any good chickenhawk would say: “I had better things to do than help in the war effort”.
October 16th, 2007 at 12:23 pmWe damn sure have less rights and more debt.

What is it called when the Leader of a Nation has left it MORE vulnerable and susceptible to an enemy’s attack.
What is it called when that Leader savagely rips apart his Nation’s Pride and Principles?
There is a word for it…
But dare we speak it?
