<strong>The people of Iowa should be ashamed of this nasty clown named Steve King.</strong> What part of the state does he represent? If this is a GOP area that voted for this pathetic excuse for a HR member, here's your question of the night:

<strong>What ever happened to "family values?"</strong> King and the GOP members of the HR who voted against S-CHIP use this phrase without any idea of what it means to really uphold family values.

Thank you to the Frost and Wilkerson families for showing what it means to value families and children's health.

I hope the next time the Democrats put this bill up it wins…but without the grossly unfair tobacco tax. That was a Republican idea, an incredibly regressive tax…a sin tax, like all good Republicans love.

I also hope the media does a better job of talking about the funding plan for the bill next time than it did this time. The tobacco tax, of sixty-one cents per pack on every person who smokes, regardless of income, was all but kept secret.

SCHIP is a good program and deserves to be expanded. But everyone should be involved in paying for it, not just the demon du jour minority.

I read just about every "GOOFY" statement on this blog. Why is it that not one liberal will debate "Facts". Liberals would sooner talk like little kids with no willingness to see past their small minds.
What we need is 20 million more smokers to pay for the Liberals handouts to Illegals and people making $70k. Oh, fact is most smokers are in the lower income brackets.
I don't expect one of your left thinking liberals to debate the facts. Facts that our own Federal Government stated.
On last thing. Why are the Democrats against having voters with a ID card? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Fascist Senator Attacks Women and Children to the Delight of Bush Administration!

Republicans danced in the streets today in true nationalist style as they watched their favorite storm trooper senator virtually bootstomp women, children and families in the streets. Their furvor rose to a fevered pitch as they chanted "heil to Bush"! Several Democratic senators joined in, chanting "down with the middle class, let them eat cake". The democratic leadership is expected to bow to Bush and lick his boots early tomorrow morning at the Supreme Court, site of the 2000 coup. New language is being drafted that will promote the idea that poor children do not need education and should be put to work in the oil fields so they can afford their own health insurance. A brave but insignificant group of leftists stood on the sidelines foolishly chanting some crap about family values and the American Dream. When will these anti-American trowbacks to the 60s ever wake up? American Dream my ass! Somebody ought to put these hippies in their place.

You know, at this point, most people in Canada are probably saying, you go your way, we'll go ours.

We'll visit your country in the extant but not all that commonplace instances that supply momentarily can't meet demand, and pay exorbitant prices for the privilege.

You can continue having a confusing, piecemeal, overhead-laden system that costs more than ours while failing to cover an increasing number.

It'll be like a reality show, because hey, it's real.

Let's see who wins. If the currency market's any indication...

There was a big mis-information campaign by the Democrats when they mis-stated the results of a poll claiming that 80% of Americans supported the expansion of SCHIP.

The democrats were lying. Nothing new.

Most folks support the <strong>existing</strong> SCHIP program.

Most folks <a href="http://www.timeswatch.org/articles/2007/20071018124906.aspx" rel="nofollow">do not support expanding the SCHIP program</a>.

<i>"As you may know, the Democrats want to allow a family of four earning about $62,000 to qualify for the program. President Bush wants most of the increases to go to families earning less than $41,000. Whose side do you favor?"</i>

<i>When put in those terms, 52% agreed with Bush: 40% with the Democrats.</i>

Please. Stop lying.

"No one is against the children of our country, and it doesn’t make sense to add more burdens on their future potential by sadling more (state-sponsored insurance schemes) debt onto their future working shoulders."

If we deployed out of Iraq, we'd have plenty of money for SCHIP.

I live less than 3 miles from the edge of King's congressional district. He may well be the most right-wing member of the House. I know he has some position on Tom Tancredo's campaign for President.

My Congressman, Lee Terry, is almost as right-wing as King. In 2006 Terry only got 55% of the vote against a candidate that I only saw one TV ad one time. Next time around he will get a serious challenge.

Paul Reickhoff points out that beneficiaries of the S-CHIP program are frequently children of those in the military.
So, to the chickenhawks......
Why don't you support the troops and their families?

Hey TCDon, did you ever think (well, of course not, as a neoCON, you DON'T think--you parrot, but I digress......) but many posters actually get time off from work--you know, a day or two off or a vacation. Some people even, you know, WORK FROM HOME. (Surely you've seen all the commercials for the companies that need "home workers"--and they're not talking about maids and domestic servants.)
Heck, some people might even be well-off enough to not need to work--not all multi-millionaires are right-wing heartless SOBs (read about Warren Buffett--I won't say you'll learn anything since right-wingers rarely "learn"). We liberals even have a history of wealthy individuals more concerned about their fellow humans, who genuinely believe that it's the duty and obligation of government to help those who need help (that last bit sounds a little bit like words uttered by Dubya's favorite philosopher).
I am a bit curious however. You posted an item at 3:39pm (EDT) and then didn't post again until 5:39pm (EDT) and you *claim* that you "have to work for a living". Here's what has me curious: What kind of job keeps you SOOOOO busy for ONLY two hours that you weren't "here to respond to all" those posts? There's only one kind of job applies that I can think of. By any chance, you wouldn't also be known as James Guckert or Jeff Gannon, would you?

<strong>It appears that everybody has missed the point here.</strong>

The issue isn't health insurance, rather it's the rising cost of healthcare. If we focused on what healthcare actually costs us, we would realize that the bureaucrats and insurance companies actually reap a large percentage of the overall health care costs in our society. When you go to the doctor, do you ask how much that x-ray will cost you? No--you merely ask if they take your insurance provider. This is ridiculous.

What we need to do is realize that to fix our system, we need more doctors and nurse-practicioners. Entry into med school should be focused on ability, not an arbitrary MCAT test. We need health care that is not driven by insurance schemes, but on placing patients and doctors in direct contact with one another in order to drive down health costs.

Then, we can focus on what we really need insurance for--catastrophic health care costs, i.e., cancer-treatment, etc.

For all those who supported the expansion of SCHIP beyond reason, you need to take a deep breath and relax. No one is against the children of our country, and it doesn't make sense to add more burdens on their future potential by sadling more (state-sponsored insurance schemes) debt onto their future working shoulders.

Perhaps TCDon and all the other right-wing hypocrites/liars on SCHIP haven't read their own private health insurance forms lately. Almost to a plan, private health insurers offer coverage to people up to the age of 25 IF they are (1) living with their parents at home,(2) in college, and (3) unmarried*. Most plans will also cover people OVER 25 who are totally dependent on their parents and/or legal guardians. Notably, this usually refers to those who suffer from severe physical disabilities or mental retardation; of course, these conditions have to have come about AFTER the parents enrolled in the health plans, especially in the last 15-20 years, since almost every health insurance program has become stricter with the "pre-existing conditions" clause (I think some providers are now attempting to require pregnant women to have amnios in order to gauge the possibility that the child will be born with a "pre-existing condition" and raise the parents' premiums accordingly).

*Most insurance carriers (whether health, life, homeowners, or auto) automatically cut off all coverage for any policyholder's child who gets married, even before the age of 18.
