The Wilkersons speak out.

By Faiz Shakir on Oct 18th, 2007 at 10:11 am

The Wilkersons speak out.

Last night on MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olberman, Brian and Dara Wilkerson — the parents of 2 yr-old SCHIP recipient Bethany — responded to the right-wing attacks that have been made against them. Brian said the family decided to speak out simply to help other families in similar situations:

She’s a Republican. And I’m an independent. You know, who cares what we are. We weren’t trying to be famous or trying to get anything out of this. We were just trying to show that SCHIP works. That was our whole thing. Because look at my daughter — she’s living proof. And if she’s fake and phony, then we’re lies.

    Adios, GOP.

another thread to satiate micheals POTATOE CHIP organization..
maybe he’ll actually respond to this…

this just in.. Micheal claims factcheck.org, a website cited by Dick Cheney in the 2004 debates, is slandering the swiftboaters. how funnny, in micheals world, any source that refutes any of the baseless assertions he makes is mere slander. no wonder he’s constantly requesting answers to questions that everyone knows the answer to. if it disagrees with him, it must be baseless slander even if he knows nothing about the source..

pray tell micheal, why would a website cited by dick cheney feel the need to make up lies about cheney’s allies the swiftboaters?

oh, and Micheal, I’ll bet your going to demand proof that Cheney quoted the website you said “smeared” the swiftboaters.. I’ll give you that proof AFTER you tell me how you will react if the assertion is true..

    Unintended consequences of Cheney’s dot-com v dot-org debate goof
Posted by Xeni Jardin, October 6, 2004 7:49 AM | permalink
During last night’s vice presidential debate, Dick Cheney advised viewers interested in his version of the facts about Halliburton to visit factcheck.com. Evidently, he meant to direct them to factcheck dot ORG, a site run by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, but mis-spoke. Factcheck dot COM redirects you to GeorgeSoros.com which contains arguments on “why we must not re-elect President George Bush.” Whups.

I just don’t get it. They don’t want poor people using contraceptives, and they don’t want them having children. Are they actively encouraging abortion now? Or do they think married couples below a certain economic threshold defined by them must be celibate?

Add to this heady stew of contradictions the notable comments by Glenn Beck and others that white people aren’t having enough babies…

It must be really comforting toi live with the peace of mind that comes with only being able to keep a single idea in your head at one time.

The religious right “abortion” agenda is finally being exposed for what it is. They are anti-sex. It has nothing to do with life.

The odd thing about this whole thing is that it is a perversion of the Old Testament. If I remember from Hebrew School, sex between a married couple is a mitzvah (commandment or good deed). In fact, I believe there are bonus points for getting busy on the Sabbath.

  19. Candyce says:

Jesus, in the House, this is what a republican puke says SCHIP stands for:

How out of touch can one get?

  21. Candyce says:

Now Rep. Jeff Flake is saying it doesn’t matter that 75% of Americans want SCHIP expansion. Because we are a representative governement – and he knows better than those 75% that SCHIP is wrong for the country.

I think it is no coincidence that Bush’s approval ratings fell 4% in the last month from 28% to 24%. What has happened in the last month? Hum…. could it be his belligerent attitude towards SCHIP? I am willing to bet if someone did another poll of the Republicans approval ratings today, it will have fallen too.

The Republicans really don’t know when to keep their mouth’s shut.

I agree. But at the same time, they think they’re doing all this in the service of their highest principles, and that it’s a fight they should win. If cute little kids have to die, that’s life.

I assume that also holds true for prenatal care? Last time I checked it was difficult to get checkups from an OBGYN in the ER. Think of the poor little snowflakes….

Verbal, I’d agree except I don’t give Michael that much credit for a connection to the real world. I’ve been amazed at his ability to dissasociate himself from what people actually say, in order to concentrate on his talking points? and mindless blather?

  28. nanlichi says:

Michael is the perfect rep of the 24%ers, a real Christian who sees value in the life of a zygote but not in a two year old if it means we would all have to chip in to help support that life.

These sick fcks fight like hell to keep someone from even trying to prevent pregancy. Condoms are Satan’s tools.

It’s ok to spend tax money killing Iraqi kids, but it’s not ok to spend a fraction of that amount to save our own kids?

I don’t even like to share my country with these right wing pukes. Maybe we could split off a portion of America and put these fundamentalist fanatics on a Christian Reservation.

  29. ANeccessaryEvil says:

Keep putting the lambs out there! Soften up the hearts and then reach deep into your pocket books and get ready to pay, pay, pay and by next election coverage will be for any family making $100,000. And we will have to provide a car when they turn 16 because we will need the child to work to raise enough money in taxes for the next plateau of those poor families only making $150,000.

We will have to pay more taxes on savings accounts, capital gains, real estate and anything people work hard to make for the security of their individualism and family. “Those precious children” that those poor, pitiful parents cannot provide healthcare for so let us redistribute the wealth…just take it….don’t ask! IDEA: there is a such thing as charity and the funny thing is “neo cons”, you know, those greedy, evil capitalists give more than those lovely, cute, bleeding heart liberals do…because they think government should…or perhaps because they are the ones who need the handouts.

It just keeps going up until government has control over everything like that beloved Chavez, Castro, Stalin, Che’ and those other cute, charismatic, loving leaders.

I see some volunteers for our Christian Reservation. Thanks dumbfcks for showing up.

Explain to us simple libs why it’s ok to kill Iraqis for Jesus, to spend millions fighting AIDs as long as we don’t mention condoms, and to fight tooth and nail against stem cell research that could help people. But don’t dare spend any tax money on children’s health.

It’s two camps of conservatism. Talk about Gays and the Christianists show up. The libertarians? Spending more tiume with their families. A humanitarian issue, like Katrina or SCHIP? whoops! Where’d the Christians go? Nobody but laissez-faire social Darwinists all of a sudden!
The conservative corporate dream world would not be christian, and the fundie dream world would not be corporate. But they both hate the liberals, so that’s OK.

While you’re flipping through your RNC Talking Points binder looking for something on-topic, try finding an explanation for why other developed nations deliver quantifiably superior health care at little more than half of what we spend here.

Hint: two words with the initials S.P.

Half of the kids eligible for help are not even using the program because their parents are to STUPID AND LAZY to access the help available by the program!

    Comment by Billy Hill — October 18, 2007 @ 12:06 pm

I agree that no matter what kind of program our government provides, there will be some eligible people who won’t take advantage of it for any number of reasons — stupidity, ignorance, laziness, denial, hassle with red tape, or not wanting “gummint help” being among them.

However, I think your claim of 50% of eligible people falling into the “stupid” and “lazy” categories may be a bit high. Could you cite your source, please?

  42. nanlichi says:

Billy’s scource is impeccable, they took a poll just after the banjo lessons last family’s Thanksgiving dinner. Talk about experts on Lazy and Stupid.

Yeah, I can see just what a slippery slope taking care of the most basic needs of our citizenry can be. We must cease all funding of education immediately.
    sarc/off

Has it even occurred to you that it costs society far less to insure children when they are well than to take care of them after they get sick? No — I didn’t think so.

Ok, so let me summarize – since not everyone would take advantage of a worthwhile program, we should deny it from those that could and would benefit from it? Now I see the light. Thank you for the wonderful argument.

  46. Chocolate Jesus says:
