Frosts refuse to back down.

By Faiz Shakir on Oct 20th, 2007 at 1:18 am

Frosts refuse to back down.

Despite the right-wing assault against them, the Frost family continues to press for children’s health insurance. The AP reports that Bonnie Frost will appear in a new radio spot “in support of Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley’s health care expansion proposal.”

Good for them, and good for Graeme for being brave enough to help the cause. I hope people pay close attention to the lies, distortions, half-truths and innuendo that the right-wing, driven by nothing more than a desire to “win”, will sling against and about the Frost family. Then ask yourself if those kind of people should represent you in government?

Wayne A. Schneider has said in #1 pretty much everything I would want to write here, so I won’t go on much longer. In any case, for what it’s worth, the Frost family have my moral support and admiration. And as far as I’m concerned, Michelle Malice and Rush Limpballs ought to be institutionalized; they’re stark, raving mad.

Great. After seeing some of those hospital pictures on KO and all that the Frosts have gone through, Mitch McConnell and the rest of the bullies who believe funding crooked contractors in Iraq is more important must seem like pretty small potatoes to them.

  8. dim wit says:

Why should the Frost’s back down? I imagine they love their kid and actually want for him to have health insurance. Besides, everything the Repubs have said about them have been lies.

  10. Trizza says:

Isn’t it ironic that when a Democrat says something that turns out to be incorrect or viewed as over-the-top, the Republicans are quick to jump on them and demand an apology and the Democrat that said it usually issues one but when a Republican does the same thing, they lie and twist and squirm to avoid and accountability for what they say. Complete two-faced hypocrites

  11. Lefty Patriot says:

Lies are now and always have been the coin of the Republican realm. the very first Republican president, Lincoln, was a liar and war-monger. it’s in their DNA.

  12. Lefty Patriot says:

Perhaps now they will be able to buy their own health insurance and get off the dole.

    Comment by O. Bigfoot — October 20, 2007 @ 9:54 am

Why should they? We all should have health insurance, instead of living like jungle savages. Republicans haven’t reached the fully human stage of evolution yet.

  13. Lefty Patriot says:

Republicans have been “left behind” the evolutionary curve. Any human progress is anathema to them, being more like primitive barbarians than civilized humans. They are constantly proving their incompetence and inability to govern, yet their “base” is ignorant enough to keep allowing them to steal from them, and pillage the treasury while hoping for children and the elderly to die unattended. Rightwingers are the scum of society, living off cor[orate welfare while ripping of the USA.

  14. Lefty Patriot says:

    Comment by TCDon — October 20, 2007 @ 10:00 am

And the Repiglicunts can continue to celebrate the deaths of children as well as soldiers on the 4th and 5th tours, while refusing to enlist and help in the cause they give lip service to. typical of rightwing cowardice, ignorance and barbarianism.

  15. Lefty Patriot says:

When Republicans hide behind children, they unfortunately do it with their pants down. No wonder they don’t care about kids.

  16. Lefty Patriot says:

Don’t ever forget, this is the same bunch of Republicans that are led by the man soley responsible for the massive failure of 9/11, George Bush, whose love for the Bin Laden family and their money allowed him to let the terrorists take down those buildings and attack the PENTAGON! republicans have no use for Aemrican citizens who aren’t in their greedy, unevolved social circle.

  17. Lefty Patriot says:

And secondly: If you choose to live like a “jungle savage” here in the United States, that is your choice, and your right. You certainly are not required to, and the rest of us certainly do not have to.

    Comment by O. Bigfoot — October 20, 2007 @ 10:04 am

but you have chosen to live like a savage, and take no regard for human life. this bullshit about “sweat and toil” should apply equally to waging illegal, immoral wars on innocents, but not to you primitives on the right. American children are worth saving to me, but not to you. I get it. You’ve all made it abundantly clear that your hardons are dependent on killing thousands of innocent strangers while reading about your representatives trolling for kids and cops. nice bunch of perverts you support.

  18. Lefty Patriot says:

Typical “hope” from a typical Liberal wishing for disaster so they can blame someone else. You’re not going to get very far with an attitude like that.

    Comment by TCDon — October 20, 2007 @ 10:08 am

Really? Thanks for ‘06. Your traitor president hoped fervently for a disaster just like that to save his sorry ass, and, voila, what a coincidence! Bush allowed 9/11, and you have done nothing about it. Bye-bye, GOP, it has sucked knowing you, and you won’t be missed!

    Comment by TCDon — October 20, 2007 @ 10:22 am

we’ll never reach your gutter level of celebrating the deaths of American on 9/11 and since so y8our big daddy deserter president can wave his puny littlle dick around and bomb thousands of innocents to death. those 3000 (not all were Americans, by the way, you ignorant fool) only died because of Bush’s ego and his incompetence, so perhaps you’d like to look in the mirror, and ask yourself why you so blindly support a man who allowed that disaster, and continues to kill thousands of Americans; more, in fact, than on 9/11? Try that one out, sheep.

    Comment by O. Bigfoot — October 20, 2007 @ 9:54 am

Yet you don’t expect politicians to do the same. Amazing hypocrisy.

First off, there is no “illegal, immoral” war.

Of course there is. A preemptive war is illegal by int’l law. You know that.

Secondly, no child is currently denied health care in the United States.

Of course they are. They are not denied emergency health care. But try and get preventative health care without insurance… or walk a person into a hospital and ask to have them check to see if they have cancer… not going to happen. You also know that.

  24. Lefty Patriot says:

Righties are especially weak this morning. Facts are against them, and they see it; they see the destruction of their party, and the left once again stepping in to save America.

    Comment by TCDon — October 20, 2007 @ 10:28 am

I’m talking to my friends in the 74%, the real America, not the freedom-hating fear-mongering sheeple of the right. Why is that so difficult for you to understand? Or are you referring to the fact that Republicans in congress garner only half the positives of Democrats?

  27. Lefty Patriot says:

You see, TCDumb, none of the figures you cite does anything to allay the fact that America has moved strongly left, after giving your side every chance, and watching you blow it all for the past 30 years. We will have our socialist paradise, where everybody benefits, not just a few greedy liars. Even you will be included; a better life for all Americans. i know you hate that idea, but it’s now inevitable, since we have seen what you want, and it doesn’t fit here. North Korea, maybe, but not here.

  28. Lefty Patriot says:

Actually, they do. You’re the one on the outside, looking in. You are a danger to America, and thus are being marginalized and shunted to the back of the line. Just don’t let a Repig congressman get behind you, if you value your virginity. What is it with you people and perverts?

  31. Lefty Patriot says:

I can’t wait until she gets sworn in and starts using those unitary exec powers to dismantle the Great Rightwing Conspiracy. You’re very sadly mistaken (what a surprise) if you think a Dem would ever vote for another Republican in this lifetime.

  32. The Republic of Stupidity says:

It seems only “lefties” feel it is appropriate to judge an entire class by the actions of only a very few. “The United States is the only industrialized nation that does not guarantee access to health care as a right of citizenship. 28 industrialized nations have single payer universal health care systems, while 1 (Germany) has a multipayer universal health care system like President Clinton proposed for the United States.”

    - The United States ranks 23rd in infant mortality

    - The United States ranks 20th in life expectancy for women

    - The United States ranks 21st in life expectancy for men

    - The United States ranks 67th in immunizations, right behind Botswana

    - The United States spends at least 40% more per capita on health care than any other industrialized country

    - Federal studies by the Congressional Budget Office and the General Accounting office show that single payer universal health care would save 100 to 200 Billion dollars per year despite covering all the uninsured and increasing health care benefits

    - Around 30% of Americans have problem accessing health care due to payment problems or access to care, far more than any other industrialized country. About 17% of our population is without health insurance. About 75% of ill uninsured people have trouble accessing/paying for health care

    - Private for profit health care corporations are the lease efficient deliverer of health care. They spend between 20 and 30% of premiums on administration and profits. The public sector is the most efficient. Medicare spends 3% on administration

    - Single payer universal health care is not socialized medicine. It is health care payment system, not a health care delivery system. Health care providers would be in fee for service practice, and would not be employees of the government, which would be socialized medicine. Single payer health care is not socialized medicine, any more than the public funding of education is socialized education, or the public funding of the defense industry is socialized defense

The fight over S-CHIP has educated all Americans to the truth:

    1. S-CHIP is a vital program for our working families. Keep it.

  49. Candyce says:

Let’s face it. Nobody pays for their own health care in this country. Not even the insured. They are subsidized by the pool of premium payers. Universal payer would be more efficient and cheaper for everyone.

By the way, the Frosts pay a monthly premium, too.

    Question for OBigFootInMouth:

Obviously you are against the SCHIP program. Do you know who wrote this program in the first place?

  61. bilbobaggins says:

Afer all, if the message is delivered by a child, you’re not allowed to question it, right? The Dems strategy failed. Now the Dems will be forced to compromise, where before they refused, thus delaying the process. Eventually, an expanded S-CHIP program will be passed, just like the President wanted, but not nearly as broad as that desired by the Moveonocrats.
    Comment by TCDon

By this you are implying that the right questioned the SCHIP program (which was originally written by Republicans). But that is not what they did. They did not debate the merits of the program, they slimed the families that benefited from the program. That was despicable.

And when they did directly address the program they lied. Here are their lies:

    1) Immigrants would be able to use the program. No they wouldn’t. The program specifically said that proof of citizenship was required.

    2) Any family making up to $83,000 a year would qualify. No they would not. This was a waiver asked for by New York where the cost of living is roughly triple the rest of the country. And, the request for the waiver was turned down.

    3) Any person up to 25 years of age would qualify. No, this specifically referred to college students living at home dependent on their parents for their care. Currently private health insurance companies offer this benefit.

So TCDon, how about trying a little truth every once in a while. It’s kind of refreshing.

  62. bilbobaggins says:

Just like a “Lefty”: To wonder why someone should pay their own way if they can afford it, rather than live off the sweat and toil of those who do.
    Comment by O. Bigfoot

Thank you for making the point of SCHIP. These families could not afford to pay for private insurance, or they applied and were turned down. That is what this program was designed for (designed by Republicans, BTW). It was to cover the working poor who made too much to qualify for Medicade, but not enough to afford a private policy at an average of $1,000 a month for a family of four. And that’s assuming that everyone in the family is healthy. If anyone is not healthy, well, then, they will be turned down for the insurance.

While laid off a job I applied for private health insurance with every major carrier and was turned down because I am over 50 and have a pre-existing condition. Obviously I don’t qualify for SCHIP so I was SOL. Is that what you want for your country? Do you want to live in a country where people have to get sick and possibly die because they either can’t afford health insurance or can’t get health insurance.

Your heart is about as black as it could possibly be.

  64. Marie says:

    #87 bilbo,
Your story is all too familiar. I believe it is disgraceful that in this country, we do not have a system that provides health care for EVERYONE. The single-payer system appeals to me.
I have to purchase my own insurance and I know the process well; unlike you, I don’t have a pre-existing condition, except that I am “of a certain age” and therefore I must pay a “surcharge” on my monthly premium. Others turned me down flat because 15 years ago I had a bladder infection which was taken care of with medication within a week, never to return again. (I guess they considered that a “condition.”)
I never thought I would be eager to reach the age of Medicare, but the present system is burdensome, unfair, and excludes too many.

I keep hearing about Americans not wanting to add 15% to their tax bill to cover Universal healthcare. Well, if you’re paying $1k per month and let’s assume you’re earning $100k per year (which I doubt the average American is) then you’re already paying 12% for healthcare. And you’re not getting much for your money.

  66. TheToonGuy says:

Agreed, Dave. switching to universal coverage would most likely have little (if any) negative effect on the average American’s take home pay. It’d just shift from one column to another on the accounting sheet.

  67. Marie says:

Dave, your point is well taken and should be repeatedly reminded to all Americans.

I haven’t heard a good reason why the business companies of America are not clamoring to get out from under the burden of providing health care for their employees.

Glad you’re enjoying it! I see you brought nothing to fight us with, since you have no facts to back up your foolish claims, so why bother? Typical hot air repuke.

Um, because the insurance companies have been feeding all of us misinformation?

A single payer health care system, would be financed by a payroll tax on employers (about 7%) and an income tax on individuals (about 2%). The payroll tax would replace all other employer expenses for employees’ health care. The income tax would take the place of all current insurance premiums, co-pays, deductibles, and any and all other out of pocket payments. For the vast majority of people a 2% income tax is less than what they now pay for insurance premiums and in out-of-pocket payments such as co-pays and deductibles, particularly for anyone who has had a serious illness or has a family member with a serious illness. It is also a fair and sustainable contribution.

I never thought I would be eager to reach the age of Medicare, but the present system is burdensome, unfair, and excludes too many.
    Comment by Marie

I wouldn’t look forward to Medicare if I were you, unless we get a Democratic President who fixes the mess Bush has made of it. Over the last six years Bush has lowered the payments made to doctors and hospitals. Today, in my community, very few doctors will even take a Medicare patient. This leaves the only avenue for medical care to be overburdened clinics.

Bill Richardson and Dennis Kucinich are the only two Democratic candidates who support universal health care. The remainder support a system still involving the “free market” (meaning the health care insurers continue to get a cut of our health care dollars).

Think about this when you choose who to vote for in the primaries. My vote is going to Kucinich even though my vote won’t count since my state is not pushing it’s primary into the Christmas season.

With all this insanity of states pushing up their primary dates, I think we need to have a law that the parties can’t pick their candidates until the last primary has been held. Otherwise change the system so that all primaries are held on the same day, just like the general election. I am sick and tired of New Hampshire and Iowa deciding who will be the next President of the United States.

I found out something interesting recently when I switched my party affiliation from Democrat to Independent. In my state Independent is viewed as a “party”. I had always thought that “Independent” meant you were not aligning yourself with any party, not that it was considered to be a political party. Is that the case in all states? If so, then I think the Independent Party needs to run a candidate. Wouldn’t it be refreshing to have a choice other than “the lesser of two evils”? Since the Independent party now has 36% of our citizens, almost as much as the Democratic Party, they should be a force to be reckoned with.

This is Oregon? It’s a brand new party and I understand that some people have been confused during registration, but there is supposed to be an unaffiliated box to check on the form.

We’ve also got the far-right Constitution Party, the Libertarian Party and the Pacific Green Party here. And the Socialists. In my district last year, there were legislative candidates from every party but one: the Republicans. Heh.

You must live in Portland. One of the party choices is “Working Families Party”. What in the heck is that?

There was a choice for “not affiliated with any party”, but I wanted to add my voice to the growing Independent Party.

I see all the big strong trolls are hanging out at the kid-bashing thread.

With the slow-motion conservative trainwreck still piling-up cars, it’s predictable of jr. high mentalities such as yours.

Oh, yes, Bigfoot-in-the-Mouth, The CEO’s who earn eight or nine figures a year really sweat and toil, don’t they? Particularly the ones who make more in one hour than the average American does in a year!

I include in the latter the trolls in this thread, whose are hurt by the fact that the Frost kids have health care.

Yeah, let’s deny health coverage to the Frosts and many other American families like them. That should teach those darn kids to choose better parents next time.

“Let them eat cake!” is the right-wingers motto.

If you are against people that can afford their own health care than why are we paying for the Senators and Represtative insurance?

They make $150,000 a year or more. We the Taxpayers are paying this. I think the congress should pay for their own health insurance.

We need to help the families that cann’t afford health insurance. The Republican don’t care about the poor or the middle class.

I want to live in a country where people take responsibility for themselves, and think and plan ahead. There is absolutely no reason why society should have to pay for some individuals poor lifestyle choices or lack of consideration for the future.
    Comment by O. Bigfoot — October 22, 2007 @ 2:19 am

So, O. Bigfoot-in-the-Mouth, do you also want to live in a country where people working for the government are held responsible for letting $6 billion go missing in Iraq, where the current administration doesn’t keep on borrowing money (more than all previous administrations combined) from other countries to pay for a war, where military contractors are held accountable for shooting innocent civilians, etc?
