IEDS a ‘rising threat’ to America.

IEDS a ‘rising threat’ to America.

The “Department of Homeland Security and the FBI agree that the homemade explosive devices that have wreaked havoc in Iraq pose a rising threat to the United States. But lawmakers and first responders say the Bush administration has been slow to devise a strategy for countering the weapons and has not provided adequate money and training for a concerted national effort.”

IEDs? You mean like backpacks full of explosives? You can go down the highway and buy all the explosives you want made in china. any day of the week. Or make a bomb like mcveigh outta compost.

Not only is it not hard we’re sticking a fork in the fire.

  4. TheToonGuy says:

The fact is, as long as Bush picks incompetent cronies over qualified managers, we will continue to be unprepared. When will the Republicans step up and demand people that are qualified to do the job instead of reflexively gainsaying anything that the Democrats say?

  5. Guido OBGYN Lover says:

Blackwater is on it I’m sure.

  6. Derrick says:

Well if disillusioned young punks can find homemade bombs on the net, there must be some measures taken to prevent such things from happening.

  7. Wayne says:

They act like IEDs are a new thing. Sorry but pipe bombs and other Improvised Explosive Devices have been used for decades by domestic terrorists. Why is this a”New Threat”?

This is just BS hype. Pure bullsh!t. Republican scare tactics to bring the public back in line.

When they started meddling in Iraq they thought they would be greeted as liberators. No one would shoot back.

Now they are meddling with American’s jobs, American children’s health care, American’s homes, American’s retirement, American’s rights and they think they will be greeted as liberators.

    STILL ???!!!

    i’ll bet he’s working on a plan…

  15. bilbobaggins says:

“Bush is working on a plan”. And that plan is to get permission to spy on all Americans in this country. That way they will be able to catch those IED terrorists before they do the dirty deed. NOT!

Good Morning Katy,..I agree with your post…..Yep! bull shit is working on a plan alright, right after he learn’s how to tie his shoe’s…This crazy basterd doesn’t even realize he can buy loafer’s instead…Hell he’s probably still working on finishing his copy of My pet goat….Wish it was Nov. 2008 ……Blessings

    Ahh, (lame)Duck Tape rises it’s sticky head…..

Our government told us that we could protect ourselves from a chemical %^*&# attack with duct tape. The only way duct tape protects you from a chemical attack is if you have enough that you can wrap it around yourself and suffocate, before the chemicals %^*&^$#! kill you. In my lifetime, we’ve gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We’ve gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in 12 years, we’ll be voting for plants. — Lewis Black

  20. Badger says:

The Military in Iraq has come up with three stategies to counteract IEDs.
    1. Tape a toy remote control car transmitter to the dashboard with the switch on. This will set off many IEDs before they are under you, but were interfering with communications equipment and had to be discontinued in many areas.
    2. Drive an MRAP with an explosive resistant V-shaped bottom to deflect the force of the IED.
    3. Walk instead of drive while on patrol.

I saw a program on c-span last nite about a reporter who pasted his business card to the sides of unguarded and easily accessible Railroad tanker cars filled with Chlorine. Estimates are that 100,000 people could be killed if someone has pasted some plastique explosive to one of these cars instead of a business card.

  22. The Republic of Stupidity says:

Now, the question is, “When BuschCo talks about IEDs being a threat to the US, are they saying “Islamic Terraist IEDs”, or homegrown, domestic terraists?

What are they trying to accomplish here? Is this a continuing attempt to sell that “Kill ‘em over there so we don’t have to kill ‘em over here” brand of crap? Just WTF are they talking about?

  23. houseoftwits says:

What are they trying to accomplish here? … Just WTF are they talking about?

    It’s called fear-mongering:

Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.

    (nope, not Bush, it’s Hitler!)

The more frightened the “sheeple” are, the easier they are to herd.

  24. Citizen_of_Earth says:

Ah the Fear Lobby hard at work, and while not new, every bit as effective.

One of the earlier and better-known Fear Lobbies was in ancient Rome. Fear of a new religious group resulted in mass persecution by the Roman authorities. Centuries later, this same religious group created a fear lobby of its own by investigating heretics and witches. Their immigrant descendants to the new world had their own witches to burn. In addition, they created a Fear Lobby against the indigenous people of their new land. In the process, they almost eradicated whole cultures of civilized people while portraying them as savages. Later, when some wanted to uphold the doctrine of equality and freedom for all, others used a Fear Lobby to keep their fellow humans in bondage. The result was a war of brother against brother that cost millions of lives.

During the twentieth century, using the new technology of mass communications, National Socialists, fascist and militarist, tried to rid the world of “sub-humans”, people they deemed to be inferior, causing an estimated twenty million deaths. Then we find a Fear Lobby led by the infamous Senator Joe McCarthy in the early 1950’s, whose objective was to root out communist. This resulted in the ruining of many lives before a courageous journalist denounced it. Then along came a Fear Lobby against more communist, this time in a place called Viet Nam, and caused the deaths of 50,000 young Americans before it was decided there was really nothing to fear and a negotiated peace was reached

Today, the Fear Lobby is alive and doing quite well. Even though, there is no proof there is a concerted and organized effort to drive fear into the hearts of citizens, there is however, a definite effort by some to accomplish just that.

Some examples are, you need to fear two women or men who want to live together, and they will destroy family values. Therefore, we need an amendment to the constitution stating that marriage is only legitimate (read in “legal”) between a man and a woman. Another is you need to fear someone who wants to protest by burning the flag. While no different than burning a copy of the Constitution or Declaration of Independence, you need to fear a flag burner.

With instant communications, someone can now propagate any myth faster and easier than ever before. When the myth is told often enough, it becomes an accepted fact. When it becomes an accepted fact, it is then a simple matter to tell people what needs to be done. The Fear Lobby need not be highly organized, just consistent in message.

History has proven that people who live in fear are all too willing to surrender their fundamental human and civil rights. When you can get people to surrender their rights, you can gain more power and have a larger role in their lives. People who surrender their rights become very willing to surrender the rights of others. This is why the Fear Lobby is a threat to every citizen of the country.

The Fear Lobby wins when citizens accept the myths without challenging them and looking for the facts. It wins when citizens become too apathetic to look for the truth. When fear wins, everyone loses.

As President Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” While many may consider this overly simplistic, it articulates a profound truth. President John F. Kennedy understood the mechanism of the Fear Lobby. His efforts to silence it are evident by his actions during the thirteen days of October 1962, as humanity stood on the brink of nuclear destruction and by his unwavering support of civil rights and the end of segregation. Kennedy said, “A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”

With America’s interconnected and aging infrastucture, a terrorist would get more “bang for the buck” by attacking our water storage and delivery systems. The western US is most vulnerable, given the already-tight supplies and outdated equipment. A terrorist attack of this sort would severely strain western Americans, by forcing choices which would shut down most industry, while leaving vulnerable millions of citizens to the harsh realities of living in an area of near-nonexistent rainfall.

Katrina would be a soggy cake-walk compared to the carnage of a concerted attack on our water supplies.

I guess they’ve figured out that every Rush Limbaugh listener has the potential to become the next Eric Rudolf and Ron Paul supporters have the potential to become the next Tim McVeigh.

  27. Citizen_of_Earth says:

Let’s not forget that the “John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007″ (H.R.5122) will allow Bush to declare a “public emergency” and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities, in order to “suppress public disorder.”

At the end of the day, the Fear Lobby has won folks, and the American people have lost.

    Good night, and good luck!

Such a jingoistic attitude is antithetical to America.

  29. MapleStreet says:

So explain this, Mr. Fear Monger – now they are IEDs and they are so likely and scary.

As I remember it, underground organizations have improvised explosives for years (actually dating back to ancient China).

Drive into a gas station, have a soda, and you have the makings of a Molotov cocktail.

Hey, even Hogan’s Heroes is a textbook on how to make IEDs. Remember Carter ?

Q U E S T I O N: Since when, in American History, has America EVER been called “The Homeland”?

ANSWER: I can find no usage of the term prior to 31 January 2001 when it was used during the Hart-Rudman Commission.

I can only presume that it was used to make us feel “safe in our homes”. However, it reminds us of two terms used in history by our previous adversaries; Nazi Germany used the term “Fatherland”, and Soviet Russia used the term “Motherland”. Of course both were dictatorships and totalitarian states.

If there is no domestic terror prior to nov next year i will be very surprised. nothing is beyond politicising for these people, dont think terrorism (actual terrorism) is immune.

learn about “Operation Gladio” which demonstrates the rights frequent use of false flag terrorism to further its ideology.
