    Worst. President. Ever.

  2. barfly says:

I think if he tries hard enough, he’ll be able to limbo under 20 before leaving office.

  3. definiteform says:

It’s really nerdy to type incomplete sentences like that, just say “Mr. Bush is no longer a President of the United States, he is the President of Special Interest and Social Conservatives.”

  4. Uncle Ho says:

    Limbo lower now

    limbo lower now

    how low can you go?

  5. missmolly says:

Don’t we do this dance every week? A troll will now post some low figure for the “democrat-controlled” congress. Then someone else will disprove that figure. Then someone else will post links to pollingreport.com showing that the Republicans in Congress are the ones dragging the figure down.

Ready for the dance, everyone? Uh-one-two, one-two…

  7. VerbalKint says:

But man alive, that last 25% is going to be hard to crack. Granite hard support, as one pundit put it. The problem with the final 25% is that they are completely non-responsive to facts or reason.

  8. Buckie Boy says:

Here in Seattle he is in the low teens, if that.

War Criminals are just not that well liked here for some reason.

  9. Fan of Man says:

they failed to say that there is a 24% margin of error.

  10. TripMaster Monkey says:

Chimpy has broken yet another record.

The record for largest poll swing in a U.S. president used to belong to Harry Truman, who went from 87% popularity to 23% (the all-time worst number), for a swing of 64%.

Chimpy has managed to piss away all the goodwill he had immediately following 9/11 (90% approval rating) and turn it into this dismal 25%, for a swing of 65%!

    Well done, Mr. President!

And remember, he’s got plenty of time to shed three more percentage points, to make him the all-time most disapproved President ever!

We’re all pulling for you, Chimpy.

But not money. The dems should proffer a huge tax-cut that will take effect only after we redeploy out of Iraq.

  12. Shayne says:

What percentage of the population is employed by the Republican party or Republican office holders or are related to somebody who is? You have to think self preservation is part of this 25% because that’s lot of brain dead people.

  13. Starve-A-Bush_Feed-A-Beaver says:

Even if it were 1%, Bush would continue acting as though he had a giant mandate and enormous legitimacy, photo-opping and smirking his way across America with his hand-picked select audiences of Chimp Fluffers.

  14. john o. says:

What? My polls suck? Dick, get your WW III started!

  15. raynman says:

And why does the Congress act as if he still has that post-911 approval rating of 90% instead of the lame duck lack of consequence he really is??

  16. GSD says:

Call David Broder, the Bush Bounce is in full effect!

    Hooray!

  17. barfly says:

Sorry to go off-topic, but the Iraqi deputy prime minister is now on C-Span, talking about the “progress” in Iraq. He uses the same debunked assertion, that Anbar is less violent because the surge is working. I can almost see Cheney’s hand sticking out his ass…

  18. lefty says:

I always love these poll numbers threads. They contain the most Bush Cult members.

    Heeeere trolly trolls!

  19. Frosty Cupcake says:

What the others have said, the poll numbers are meaningless. The Republicans in Congress are still obstructing any meaningful legislation, impeachment is still “off the table”, and Bush is still getting everything he wants.

    Business as usual.

  20. texaslady says:

#5 – Totally agree…doesn’t really matter, because Bush’s handlers never let him see or read anything negative. It is easy to see how he can be so upbeat, I could be too if I could just stop reading.

At least in Nixon’s day there were still some Republicans with ethics who hustled him out the door. Really telling about the GOP’s morals and ethics now. There aren’t ANY !

  21. lefty says:

    Business as usual.

Precisely right! We need to clean up our own house first. And that means identifying and targeting Bush Dog Democrats and ridding the party of them. If we can’t force out the enablers and pu$$ies, then I think we will need to start a new party.

It’s not about Democrats and Republicans anymore, since too many of the Democrats are either in the pocket of the corporations, Republican b1tches or both. It’s The Establishment vs The People. It’s time we all recognized that. Democrat vs Republican and even Left vs Right is a sideshow. The Establishment has taken over control and is trying to permanently mute any political power that normal people have left.

  22. Jason M. Hendler says:

You can quote all the polls you want, but elections are the pin that bursts libs bubble. Niki Tsongas only won by a slim amount in a district that gave John Kerry 15% lead, and Louisiana just elected a Republican governor against 11 other candidates, with no need for a run-off election.

The affects of Congress’s behaviour, who are now firmly associated with Nanci Pelosi and Harry Reid (remember how you tried to hide them for the 3 weeks prior to their election?), are clearly being realized in these elections. I can only hope and pray that Reid and Pelosi try to fight Bush over the budget and other items, where they will seal the fate of the Dems in 2008.

As I said before, 2006 was premature electionation…..

  23. missmolly says:

Bush’s approval rating is in the toilet. And it has been for quite some time — the only people “approving” of his performance are the small handful who benefit directly from the corrupt practices of this administration, and a somewhat larger handful of people who pay absolutely no attention to anything going on in the world but Bush-is-a-Republican-and-our-family-has-always-supported-Republicans. Oh — and the wingnut dittoheads.

The real story here isn’t the number-of-the-week. Bush tends to fluctuate a few points up or down depending on the week and depending on the poll. No, the real story here is that the last time a poll showed more approval of Bush’s performance than disapproval was in December 2005 — ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO (a poll from Diageo/Hotline conducted December 12-13, 2005 showed 50% Bush approval and 47% Bush disapproval). All other polls for the past two years show Bush’s disapproval rating greater than his approval rating — with the disapproval rating being as much as 39 points higher.

No other president in history has had ratings that bad for that long (and it’s entirely possible that no president has cared as little, or has had as much contempt for the will of the people).

  24. lefty says:

No other president in history has had ratings that bad for that long (and it’s entirely possible that no president has cared as little, or has had as much contempt for the will of the people).

And yet we can’t seem to remove him. THIS is why Congress has a microscopic approval rating, trolls.

    TURDS!

  26. Frosty Cupcake says:

“No other president in history has had ratings that bad for that long”

It doesn’t matter. Lefty’s correct. We don’t have two parties in this country, not really. The Democrats and the Republicans both, primarily, represent corporate interests. What we have are the Money Party (huge, consisting of virtually all Republicans and lots of Democrats, including Hillary and Obama) and the People Party (Brown of Ohio and Sanders of Vermont come to mind).

So the poll numbers are meaningless, a shell game, designed to distract us.

  27. Bush is a four letter word says:

We’ve come a long way from embedded reporters streaming shots of dust clouds from humvees on their way to a “two-week war.” Five years later, absolutely nothing that was declared a priority entering this conflict has been achieved.

Bush took the goodwill of the world, a Federal monopoly, and a healthy military, and lit a match to it just to watch it burn. The Republicans should be at least as displeased with him as the Democrats, if not more so.

  28. Wayne says:

Supposedly 19% of the population suffers from mental illness, what is the excuse of the other 6%?

  29. ralph the wonder llama says:

Here’s the best that a 24%er can come up with to this point:

LividLib said : “A proud 10%er!” and “TURDS!

That’s the sum total of its response. Is that pathetic or what?

LividLib, I think it’s been explained to you before, but since you’re obviously a little slow on the uptake, I’ll go over it for you again:

You’re a “24%er” because you support Bush, no matter what he does or says.

By the same token, a “10%er” would presumably be one who supports the Congress no matter what. Are we clear so far?

Note that a “10%er” is one who supports THE CONGRESS, not “the democrat congress”, since Congressional Democrats get considerably higher approval ratings than Congressional Republicans, and the 10% (11%, actually) applies to the Congress as a WHOLE.

And the “10%er” label you favor certainly doesn’t apply to Democrats in general, since they have nearly as negative a view of Congress as Republicans and Independents. And almost no progressive on this forum thinks Congress is doing a good job.

So just quit it. It makes you look really, really stupid. You don’t want people to think you’re really, really stupid, do you?

  32. LividLib says:

    rtwl,

    you misunderstood.
my comment “a proud 10%-er” was in reference to the 10% who did NOT support Bush immediately following 9/11. i never supported the SOB and never will!

My response, “TURDS” was to paraphrase missmolly’s previous comment, “Bush’s approval rating is in the toilet. And it has been for quite some time —the only people “approving” of his performance are…”
what i was saying is that those who continue to approve of dumbass are TURDS.

    i’m on your side, dude!

  33. toasterhead says:

Wow. That is truly a frightening statistic.

This means that if you’re stuck in an elevator with three other people, the statistical likelihood is that one of those people thinks that this president is doing A-OK.

That is FAR too many, as far as I’m concerned.

  34. lefty says:

    Question:

Inevitably some jackass is going to mention low congressional approval ratings…A while back I saw someone post a reference to a Washington Post (?) poll that broke out congressional approval ratings by Democratic Congress vs. Republican Congress (higher and lower respectively). Does anybody know if this is tracked contiously, or was that a one-time poll? I’d love to keep my eye on that…any point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Here’s the link to PollingReport’s congressional approval summary table. You can click up at the top on either “Congress: Democrats” or “Congress: Republicans” to see results from polls making that differentiation.

Honestly, between this thread and the Blackwater Logo thread (around post #30), my posts have been more scatological than they usually are. I’ll try to climb out of the outhouse and make more intelligent comments — although perhaps references to potties and excrement is about all we have left to describe this administration and the Iraq situation.

This is exactly what was being said in 1967-1969. Johnson was as hated as Nixon. It was the “straights/squares” vs
“heads”. In theory, the left is supposed to be for the People, but when I hear Hillary being a “Liberal”, I want to puke. The Establishment was and still is the same.

  46. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

Jack, job-related political opinions are some of the most rigid. As Sinclaire Lewis pointed out, it’s hard to get a man to agree with something when his paycheck depends upon disagreeing.

But, also, as John Dean has pointed out in “Conservatives Without a Conscience,” there is a personality type, called the “authoritarian personality,” that is held by somewhere between 20 and 25% of the population. These people feel compelled to follow a leader without question and often need a strong leader to feel comfortable. They also tend to be more sociopathic and narcisistic than the general population.

  47. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

I hate to bring the bad news, but until we make a fundamental change to the way we run elections, NO candidate from any party can be successful without at least some corporate money. The fact that both major partys’ candidates both feed from the corporate slop bowl is important, but it doesn’t in any mean that there are no differences between the parties. On virtually every issue, the Democratic candidates reflect much more closely the will of the people than do any of the Repubs. The most conservative of the Dems, possibly Biden and Clinton, are far more progressive than the most liberal of the Repub candidates.

So, please, fellow lefties, in 2008 let’s have a little bit less of this “lesser of two evils” blather or “there’s no difference” nonsense. That kind of talk is right there on the list of reasons why we got Bush.

  48. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

The facts are that we have a profoundly unpopular, but still strangely powerful president who is literally tearing down the repub party and the modern conservative movement almost single-handedly with his incompetence, his strange set of values, his string of patently obvious lies and his political philosophy which stands at odds with the vast majority of Americans on virtually every issue. He will be known as the most unpopular president since the onset of polling. It may be that military-industrial complex money is what keeps the vast majority of repub reps and senators in Bush’s corner, but it doesn’t matter. They’re through. Their movement is over.

ANY Democratic candidate will at least begin to withdraw from Iraq. Any of them will work for universal health coverage. Almost any of them will re-evaluate NAFTA (even Hillary has suggested this.) All of them will approve of Stem cell funding legislation. All of them would fully fund the SCHIP program. All of them would strengthen environmental regulations and rebuild FEMA with competent public servants. Any of them would sign legislation reversing the Bush tax breaks for the wealthiest of us. On and on. There is a difference between the Democratic and Republican parties.

  49. Lisa FTW says:

Col. Jack, I enjoy reading your posts. You provide well-thought answers that make sense. Thanks to all of you regular posters also. I’ve only been reading, and occasionally posting to TP for a short time, but I’ve enjoyed it thoroughly.
