At least 10 different wildfires are raging across California, forcing hundreds of thousands of residents to flee their homes. “It’s a tragic time for California,” Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) said. Right-wing pundit Glenn Beck views the situation quite differently. On his radio show today, Beck said: “I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today.” Media Matters has the audio.
What is it with the Reichtwingnutz?
They Hate real Americans day in and day out.
And newspapers and TV then dutifully publishes the bullshit.

October 22nd, 2007 at 4:17 pmWhat do you expect from a guy who asked the first Muslim elected to Congress if he is working with the enemy? Beck puts the ‘ass’ in ‘dumbass’.
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:18 pmWow…just wow.
And these people really wanted a better life for Iraqis?
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:19 pmThe beckster will continue to spiral in as he becomes less and less relevant over the next year.
Even some of the worst Reich Wingers have abandoned this Nazi-wannabe, as per his ratings loss.
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:20 pmYeah, them Marines in Camp Pendleton and sailors on San Diego really do hate America, huh, Glenda?

October 22nd, 2007 at 4:22 pmMonday Morning Quarterbacking is OK for football games. Claiming that the Malibu fires are a result of God’s vindictiveness against the Hollywood types is absolutely no different that the Islams calling their terrorist attacks against the “infidels” Allah’s will. Neither God nor Allah is a registered Republican contrary to what bushco an sycophats would have us believe. Are these people so weak and insecure they must invoke some imagined superpower to give them creditability? And to think that even Harry Potter’s mom bowed to the Repugs and outed from the closet one of the great leaders of the Hogwarts.

October 22nd, 2007 at 4:28 pmWhat is wrong w/this guy?!?!? I’ve got friends in the fire area, Glenn, you dumbass sack of shit. Care about your fellow Americans much? Or are your ill chosen words only another sop to some lame-ass radio audience? Bet you don’t repeat this canard on tv. Too ugly for broadcast on CNN, but ok for the radio, so it can be echoed in the bs echo chamber?
Think of the people who actually live there, if you can figure out how to do that…

October 22nd, 2007 at 4:30 pmIt is no small irony that the language of Beck and Fats Limbaugh etc.. is verbatim of Joe McCarthy. Same act, same bullshit. Just change out commies for whatever filth the wingnuts are spewing at that moment and voila! we are right back at HUAC with Nixon and Roy Cohn.
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:30 pmThis is the same jerkoff who stated if NYC was nuked, he’d be OK because he lives in Conn.
He’s not only a first class prick, he’s as stupid as Bush.

October 22nd, 2007 at 4:30 pmI had no idea wildfires were selective and only burned down the houses of the liberal Democrats. Thank God all those rich white Republican houses were spared, right Beck?
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:31 pmSo…
If you truly hate America, you hate God, who will get you for it.
This is not so different than when people said that we who lived in the sinful city of New Orleans deserved the flooding caused by the Army Corp of Engineers.
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:31 pmI live in San Diego where 8 fires are burning. Most business is shut down and I have a friend that has lost a house in Ramona (including three horses that they had to leave behind) I think I speak for most of San Diego when I say “F#@k Glen Beck”.

October 22nd, 2007 at 4:40 pmFor anyone to find pleasure in the loss and devastation is beyond the pale.
Beck has shown (again) the callousness and sub-human nature of his desire to be relevant.
I had no idea Glenn Beck claimed to have an inside track to God more than the rest of us — similar to Pat Robertson or the late Jerry Falwell.
Or maybe Beck is just showing his ignorance on the demographics of California. He obviously thinks the only people who live in California are far-left liberals. Southern California, where the fires are raging, is home to both Orange and San Diego counties — probably the two most conservative counties in the state. Many of the victims of the fires are conservatives, some of whom no doubt listen to Beck’s show. Or DID.
Does Glenn Beck think Duncan Hunter, one of the most conservative GOP Congressmen, “hates” America? Does Beck know that Hunter represents a district profoundly affected by these fires?
Does Beck know he’s a complete idiot?
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:41 pmThe first building lost in Malibu was the Presbyterian church. Burned to the ground. I don’t know the church or its parishoners, but I wonder if Beck thinks that congregation hates America?
The Presbyterian church is right above Pepperdine. Home to Kenneth Starr, Dean of the Law School. One of those “hate America” lefties, no doubt.
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:42 pmWell, truth be told, Ken Starr DOES seem to hate America. Or at least he did in the late nineties.
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:44 pmIt is part of their game plan to make ALL AMERICANS be supicious and hateful of ALL other Americans. They want you to HATE, it is their plan to be able to lable anyone they want as America Haters…it is EASIER TO LOCK ANYONE THEY WANT UP WHEN GW666 DECLARES MARTIAL LAW.
They are trying to start a Civil War here, just read some of the posts on the REDHATE site, they want an excuse to KILL people they disagree with.

October 22nd, 2007 at 4:47 pmI have to say, just when you think this tool can’t get his head any father up his own ass, he manages another inch or two. Does he even know the politcal make-up of the San Diego area? Not exactly a “blue” town with all the military and defense contractors in the area. Perhaps he’ll finally annoy some of CNN’s corporate sponsors that TimeWarner will actually bow to (Martin Marietta, General Dynamics–are you listening?) and Beck will finally get the plug pulled. You’d have to think they’d welcome an excuse to drop this money-loser.
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:48 pmIs there no catastrophe that the ridiculous radical right won’t try to confabulate into some sort of sign that their side is right and the other side is wrong?
What’s scary is that I’m sure there were people who were listening to that blather and nodded to themselves in agreement.
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:49 pmI guess my first comment was too profane to get through the filter. I have brothers and sisters who have already evacuated their homes. Glenn Beck is a hateful piece of filth.

October 22nd, 2007 at 4:56 pmTo add to the comments above about the church, the destroyed Malibu Castle is owned by Lilly Lawrence, the philanthropist daughter of Reza Fallah, once the oil minister for the Shah of Iran. A real lefty, Beck.

You’re right, VK — but through the smugness, this troll doesn’t see the hypocrisy of his remark. It’s OK to react with great moral indignation if you’re a Republican. In fact, the proper thing for Republicans to do when they’ve been offended by words is to get a Senate resolution passed condemning it. But when Don Imus makes racist and sexist remarks, when Ann Coulter insults Jews, when Rush Limbaugh disses our soldiers, when working families get swiftboated, and when Glenn Beck asserts that victims of wildfires somehow deserve their misfortune because they “hate” America — well, any reaction to any of that is “immature”.

October 22nd, 2007 at 5:25 pmtalk about the outrage and not the actual problem.
Comment by spearNmagicHelmet — October 22, 2007 @ 5:10 pm
I would say the “actual problem” is that global warming, caused by conservative policies promoted by Glen Beck, is causing the increase in number and severity of forest fires.
This was one of the stories on 60 Minutes last night. Fire experts said that:
October 22nd, 2007 at 5:31 pm1) the last seven years have produced seven of the ten worst fire seasons in history.
2)Tree rings show that the last 15 years have been the hottest in 1,000 years.
3)An increase of one degree will cause four times as many fires.
4)We can lose one half of all forests in the western US over the next 30-100 years due to global warming.
I was wondering when the talking heads would start saying the fire was because of the progressives in California. You know they are open about homosexuality and all. Bet O’Reilly will have to put his 2 cents in as well. Yeah, must be those atheists out there that believe in freedom of choice.
You just have to wonder if these people are real or just paid so well to act so stupid.
October 22nd, 2007 at 5:32 pm#59 - Saw that then today John Stotsel’s show Friday was quoted deneying everything and the scientists were being threatened that said there wasn’t a global warming, even climate change.
Funny how the word threaten always comes up when the Republicans are trying to smear the opposite side. Republicans really need some new writting material.
Oh and now another Osama tape has been released, such a coincidence just when Bush wants more money.
October 22nd, 2007 at 5:35 pmRight, Nevar, I left out Charlton Heston. I also left out our governor The Terminator who I just saw on CNN. He still cannot pronounce the name of the state!!!
October 22nd, 2007 at 5:37 pmSpeechless… I am without speech.
October 22nd, 2007 at 5:37 pmBeck also once said on his radio show that he’d like to kill Michael Moore. This was a few months before he got his TV show. Did he get in trouble for publically inciting violence on a public figure? No. He got his own television show. Those lefties running the media sure are cagey. They’re obviously trying to fool us into believing the mainstream media is run by a bunch of corporatist conservative crackpots.

There are actually records kept of number of acres burned over the years, temperatures for every day and every location, etc. There actually are records kept.
October 22nd, 2007 at 6:33 pmSorry dbadass. Read you wrong.
October 22nd, 2007 at 6:35 pmActually. he’s going to deny that he was referring to the entire population. He was only talking about a few scattered people who Hate America.
He is instead referring to the Ancient and Secret Order of Masonic He-Man America-Haters and Evildoers society, founded in a mansion in Hollywood by Fatty Arbuckle and Theda Bara in 1921, and which is currently presided over by Larry David. These America-hater are responsible for all the sexuality, bad language and bad portrayals of bsnkers and congresmen in movies, not to mention rock and roll, marijuana, and the stagnation of John Milius’s career.

There are changes in global temperature that have occurred that were NOT man-made. But if you have a natural increase and at the same time have a very very severe mad-made increase—then we are in big trouble.
99% of scientists agree with me on this. The only scientists who do not agree are those being paid lots of money by polluters like Exxon. Sometimes laundered through the Heritage/Hudson Foundation.

Here’s one small link if you want to educate yourself, junior. Please note that ALL of this research was accounted for in the IPCC report and the research that exists on global warming.
What Avery (michael’s retarded GOP link) does is claim that any article that discusses one point of global warming means that it denounces it - like the tree-ring issue. However that’s a complete distortion of the science and the consensus.
It’s a non-scientist denying the consensus with an unscientific press release. Typical wingnut hysteria and disinformation - nothing more!

This is the danger of non-Scientists debating techinical issues that must remain obscure - it becomes a battle of websites, where all you have to do is say “your website sucks, mine rules.” For example, I THINK Venus is too hot for ice caps and Jupiter and Saturn are Gas giants much, much farther away from the Sun and so might not expect the same effect in fluctuations of solar activity.
And RHF, I went to your site, read the explanation, I had not heard that, thanks for the info. They seemed pretty certain but left room for doubt in their conclusions - would it kill you to be a little less sneering about your own? I would suggest neither you nor I can know for certain to what extent humans are affecting climate change, a bit of humility about a 4.5 billion year old system befits complicated apes with a 70 year life span.

You’re right, the territory is hazardous for us non-scientists. But I never said anything about ice caps on Venus. i can see where you would infer that from what I wrote, but all I said was “similar effects” meaning similar warming effects. It would stand to reason that, if solar activity was the source of global warming on Earth and on Mars, one might reasonably expect to observe similar warming trends on the other planets within the sun’s influence. That might be a step toward validating the idea you suggested. In the absence of some kind of validation, however, all you are doing is presenting two phenomena and implying a direct causal link between them where none is established.

October 22nd, 2007 at 8:06 pmI’m not going to jump in the middle of another GW fight but, here’s a quick factoid. The CO2 content of the atmosphere is, as nearly as science can estimate, the highest it’s been in, at least, 800,000 years. Give or take. This level has increased, exponentially, since reliable records have been kept. This fact is beyond dispute. And I’ll leave it to you all to choose how to use it in your arguments.
I will offer one quick opinion though. Messing with the composition of the Earth’s atmosphere has unknowable consequences. I hope we, as a race, don’t eff it up!
October 22nd, 2007 at 8:08 pmKeltoi at Night,
It is true that you and I and ralph and republicanshatefacts have not spent our lives studying earth’s temperatures. But of the scientists who HAVE, all but a very tiny percentage agree with Al Gore or what I am saying.
This tiny percentage who does not agree that we are now experiencing severe man-made climate change are mostly paid large amounts of money to say the things they are saying. Look at where Heritage/Hudson gets its money.
Of course ice ages have come and gone on the Earth before there ever were human beings. But it is also true that there are records in Antarctica’s ice that go back 600,000 years. When they are studied, they say we are really experiencing something unusual today.
October 22nd, 2007 at 8:11 pmThe reason Venus is much hotter than Mercury, even though Mercury is closer to the Sun, is due to Venus’ greenhouse effect.
