Beck: CA wildifires hitting some ‘people who hate America.’
At least 10 different wildfires are raging across California, forcing hundreds of thousands of residents to flee their homes. “It’s a tragic time for California,” Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) said. Right-wing pundit Glenn Beck views the situation quite differently. On his radio show today, Beck said: “I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today.” Media Matters has the audio.

I had no idea Glenn Beck claimed to have an inside track to God more than the rest of us -- similar to Pat Robertson or the late Jerry Falwell.
Or maybe Beck is just showing his ignorance on the demographics of California. He obviously thinks the only people who live in California are far-left liberals. Southern California, where the fires are raging, is home to both Orange and San Diego counties -- probably the two most conservative counties in the state. Many of the victims of the fires are conservatives, some of whom no doubt listen to Beck's show. Or DID.
Does Glenn Beck think Duncan Hunter, one of the most conservative GOP Congressmen, "hates" America? Does Beck know that Hunter represents a district profoundly affected by these fires?

You're right, VK -- but through the smugness, this troll doesn't see the hypocrisy of his remark. It's OK to react with great moral indignation if you're a Republican. In fact, the proper thing for Republicans to do when they've been offended by words is to get a Senate resolution passed condemning it. But when Don Imus makes racist and sexist remarks, when Ann Coulter insults Jews, when Rush Limbaugh disses our soldiers, when working families get swiftboated, and when Glenn Beck asserts that victims of wildfires somehow deserve their misfortune because they "hate" America -- well, any reaction to any of that is "immature".

I would say the "actual problem" is that global warming, caused by conservative policies promoted by Glen Beck, is causing the increase in number and severity of forest fires.
This was one of the stories on 60 Minutes last night. Fire experts said that:
October 22nd, 2007 at 5:31 pm1) the last seven years have produced seven of the ten worst fire seasons in history.
2)Tree rings show that the last 15 years have been the hottest in 1,000 years.
3)An increase of one degree will cause four times as many fires.
4)We can lose one half of all forests in the western US over the next 30-100 years due to global warming.
I was wondering when the talking heads would start saying the fire was because of the progressives in California. You know they are open about homosexuality and all. Bet O'Reilly will have to put his 2 cents in as well. Yeah, must be those atheists out there that believe in freedom of choice.

There are changes in global temperature that have occurred that were NOT man-made. But if you have a natural increase and at the same time have a very very severe mad-made increase---then we are in big trouble.

You're right, the territory is hazardous for us non-scientists. But I never said anything about ice caps on Venus. i can see where you would infer that from what I wrote, but all I said was "similar effects" meaning similar warming effects. It would stand to reason that, if solar activity was the source of global warming on Earth and on Mars, one might reasonably expect to observe similar warming trends on the other planets within the sun's influence. That might be a step toward validating the idea you suggested. In the absence of some kind of validation, however, all you are doing is presenting two phenomena and implying a direct causal link between them where none is established.

The CO2 content of the atmosphere is, as nearly as science can estimate, the highest it's been in, at least, 800,000 years. Give or take. This level has increased, exponentially, since reliable records have been kept. This fact is beyond dispute. And I'll leave it to you all to choose how to use it in your arguments.
I will offer one quick opinion though. Messing with the composition of the Earth's atmosphere has unknowable consequences. I hope we, as a race, don't eff it up!

This tiny percentage who does not agree that we are now experiencing severe man-made climate change are mostly paid large amounts of money to say the things they are saying. Look at where Heritage/Hudson gets its money.
Of course ice ages have come and gone on the Earth before there ever were human beings. But it is also true that there are records in Antarctica's ice that go back 600,000 years. When they are studied, they say we are really experiencing something unusual today.

I agree. It was only a few years ago that the Vatican said Galileo was right and apologized for his excommunication. There is a museum in Kentucky that says humans lived with dinosaurs. One of the top legislators in Texas hands out a pamphlet saying the entire universe revolves around a fixed Earth.

Now the Bush Family and the GOP felt that the victims of Katrina didn't count because they were poor but now the GOP is telling those with multi-million dollar homes and income that don't count either. One home was valued at 17 million dollars I guess the White House thinks that a cheap home. Millions are losing their homes because of sub-prime, millions are losing their jobs now all the taxpayers money is going to Iraq/Afghanistan/Halliburton profits. Americans need international help as the fires, health care and Americans suffering from stolen economy. Can the Saudi King give a little help as he is best friends with Bush.
