It's hard to imagine a more pyrrhic "victory" for Barney Frank, HRC, and the Congressional Democrats than this futile piece of flawed legislation. Its craven compromises epitomize the many broken promises of the pseudo-Democratic Party and the straight-laced Washington Beltway lobbyists who dominate the Homosexual Rights Campaign. Absolutely no one predicts it will pass the Senate or survive a Bush veto. What ENDA actually marks is a watershed moment - the end of Barney Frank's credibility as Congressional leader of the LGBT movement and the public exposure of the HRC's betrayal of trans and gender variant people. Nothing they say will ever be trusted again.

It's ironic that these people are trying to use the "Freedom of religion" argument to take away the rights of others who just want to follow their OWN beliefs. Do they even understand what hypocrisy is???

OK -- I know it's early and I haven't had enough caffeine yet. But I'm gathering here from reading this item and the accompanying article that by protecting the rights of gays, ENDA would discriminate against Christians.

Huh??? Is my still-fuzzy brain missing something here?

I'm a Christian and I don't see bigotry as a "right" I'm entitled to.

BTW, Daryll’s going to be very suprised when he dies and winds up in hell, won’t he?

Comment by Jane E. Schneider — October 23, 2007 @ 12:46 am

Or super-duper extra surprised when his mind experiences everything it is, as his neurons fire like crazy, showing him his life, before the cold finality of death grips him, and he realizes before he finally expires that there is nothing beyond this life but oblivion, that he should have been better to the people that exist in the real world, and striven to live up to the ideals of his fellow man and society as a whole, not some work of myth-telling.

Maybe then he'll feel regret for the way in which he treats others. Perhaps he'll regret the manner in which he attempts to force his narrow view of the world upon those around him. The raw selfishness that guides his actions will hopefully be exposed for him to see in those final moments, and he can weep inside knowing he could have used all of the energy he expended not hating those not like him, not despising or pitying those who want to see every man, woman and child on Earth live in peaceful co-existence, but rather embracing their wild variety and sweet differences, and helping the world to be a better place for all human. Not just (some) Christians.

Col, the bible says that I must witness to others. If I do not follow this doctrine, I am not obeying our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

Comment by Daryll — October 22, 2007 @ 7:07 pm

Matthew 6:5-6:6
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."

Matthew 7:1-7:5
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."

Matthew 7:12
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."

You do not follow the words of Yeshua. You follow the words of men, who need followers, who need others to spread the word of their seat of power. You worship a betrayal of the teachings of a good and progressive man, who was trying to make the world better for all mankind.

Maybe I'm just a stickler for punctuation, but this part seems confusing:

"it shall be an unlawful employment practice for an employer … to fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any individual, or otherwise discriminate against any individual with respect to the compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment of the individual, because of such individual's actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity."

Shouldn't there be a comma somewhere in "to fail or refuse to hire, or to discharge any individual..." Without the comma, to me it reads that it's unlawful to fail or refuse to hire, or to fail or refuse to discharge, any individual blah blah blah.

I'm probably just picky.

BTW, Daryll's going to be very suprised when he dies and winds up in hell, won't he?

As usual Daryll, stupid is no excuse for blind allegiance to some idol in
the sky. Of course, no one will be able to convince you of the fact that
humans (men of course) were/are directly responsible for the bible and the
"Word of God". Try a little history of the Roman Catholic Church - idiot.

I guess that last nonsense is a warning about the apocolipto - the end
of civilization will be brought about by man. What kind of moron would
think that GOD would bring about the end of his own little sheeple. I forgot,
we are talking about a "Daryll".

As a matter of fact, has the GOP compromised their values for money? No!!!

Comment by Daryll — October 22, 2007 @ 8:20 pm

Actually, you seem to have come up with a truism, Butter Boy.
GOP values consist of monetary ideologies almost exclusively.
And so, in that regard, they have not compromised themselves.

Daryll: “I have been reprimanded for informing an employee that she was comitting a sinful act. I truly did not believe that I made a comment that was was full of discrimination.”

LOL

She told him she needed to go to the restroom, and would be right back.
Daryll's meager, tormented little imagination immediately went off the charts.

"I would love to bring members of the ACLU to my church so we can gather around them and remove all satanic spirits from their lives so we can cast them to the pits of hell."
Comment by Daryll — October 22, 2007

Yikesee, Daryll, it sounds like you are really going over the edge!

Why go to all the bother casting out evil spirits if you are just going to toss them into the lake of fire?

From your supposed personal history, one would think you would have a little reverance for the ACLU.

Sounds like your radical religiosity is about to get you fired from your job.
Then you'll lose your $450,000 home in the privileged neighborhood.
Maybe you'll have to end up staying on the beach in Brazil permanently.

Daryll, you are not obeying God or the word of God. You are obeying the word of fallible men who were clever enough to realize that if a religion does not perform as a tool of social competition, control and domination it would not survive hundreds of years.

Proselytizing is the province of a con artists, busybodies, and control freaks. Shove off.

Mldb, yes. I must inform you what is considered morally right and wrong by referring to God’s laws.

Well if that's what your religion says then you must obey. I assume I have the same rights. My religion says I must beat the $hit out of anyone who judges me on the basis of their religion.

I don't know where you received your theological training, but I would ask for my money back.

Witnessing is not synonymous with passing judgment. Christian witnessing is telling the story about how Jesus death on the cross freed humanity from having to worry about our sinfulness and trying to earn our way to eternal life.

My apologies to the rest of the discussion board. I know this is not a theology discussion board, but this stuff just irks me at times. I'm done.

Daryll: "Overlap, I am simply following the word of God."

Sure, but you're picking and choosing here. Your savior also says not to pray in public but you probably stand and lurch around with a bunch of your fellow cultists playing drama queens by striking poses and speaking in tongues every Sunday morning. According to Matthew, Jesus would call you and every one of your fellow evangelicals "hypocrites."
