Iraqi parliament weighs limits on U.S. presence.

Leaders in the Iraqi parliament yesterday said “that they were taking steps to examine the U.S. military presence in Iraq with an eye toward possibly restricting the force’s activities, in a continuing backlash over an American raid that Iraqi officials say killed 13 civilians.” A September poll found that 70 percent of Iraqis believe President Bush’s escalation has “worsened” their lives.

UPDATE: In May, several GOP lawmakers said that if the Iraqi parliament calls for withdrawal, they will change their positions and “respect their wishes.”

If the Iraqi parliament passes a resolution for the US to leave, will we really withdraw?

    Didn’t think so.

That Surge sure is working, and 30% think it is better?

The WH will certainly use the propaganda line, that “the Surge is working for the Iraqi people”, GW666 or Darth Dick, of course, will leave out the fact that it is not working for 70% of the Iraqi people.

And how could 70% of Iraqis be so wrong? When we are freeing them from tyranny, bringing them democracy, and making their lives so much better?

    sarc/off

Percentages don’t mean diddly-squat with our leaders. Most Iraqis think we are making things worse. Most Americans want us out of there. Yet onward Bush surges…

Most probably, they’re not thinking at all.

  23. smgumby says:

The day that administration seriously thinks there is a chance that Iraq will formally ask us to leave will be the same day we declare the Iraq’s government officially failed. Then we install a new “leader” of Iraq.

30% of the population have intelligence quotients so low they are unable to read and retain any data. They are only able to parrot back the latest line of crap spewed forth from Limbaugh and O’Reilly and their kind.

Not much to refute….politicians are talking about making plans.

As far as the poll goes, one thing I do note is there is a major discrepancy in the numbers as far as people’s perception of how things are going in their local area as opposed to overall in Iraq. The numbers are still bad, but it seems people think things are better locally than they perceive them to be nationwide. Not sure why that would be.

  34. DigDug says:

  38. Keltoi says:

    From the same poll

“In a better result for the United States, fewer now blame U.S. or coalition forces directly for the violence occurring in Iraq — 19 percent, down from 31 percent six months ago; as many (21 percent) blame al Qaeda. (Eight percent blame George W. Bush personally.)

If the United States is unpopular, others fare no better. Seventy-nine percent of Iraqis believe Iran is actively engaged in encouraging sectarian violence in Iraq, up eight points; majorities also suspect Saudi Arabia and Syria of fomenting violence. And the poll finds almost unanimous opposition to most activities of al Qaeda in Iraq; the sole exception is its attacks on U.S. and other coalition forces. ”

So hey – 79 percent think Iran is encouraging violence, is that proof they actually are?

    From you link:
“More Iraqis say security in their local area has gotten worse in the last six months than say it’s gotten better”

So basicly according to this poll Iraqis think things have gotten worse locally, and even worse than that nationally.

Shane, I would differ with you on that point. They can obviously read and retain well enough to vote in favor of King George the Dumb in the polls. However, your caveat about being able to spew the Repug “Talking Points” would probably be germane so I will concede your point.

    Comment by DigDug — October 23, 2007 @ 1:18 pm

Yeah – I said the numbers were bad. It did strike me as odd that they were less bad when Iraqis were talking about their local area, which they would presumably know more about than what was happening nationwide.
