Romney refers to Osama as Obama.

By Faiz on Oct 23rd, 2007 at 1:10 pm

Romney refers to Osama as Obama.»

During a speech today, former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) said, “Actually, just look at what Osam — Barack Obama — said just yesterday. Barack Obama, calling on radicals, jihadists of all different types, to come together in Iraq.” Kevin Madden, a Romney spokesman, claimed Romney “misspoke” both times. “He was referring to the audiotape of Osama bin Laden and misspoke.”

Romney: I is aware of islamo-fascists.

  2. Nevar Says:

It was only a matter of time before this slick of the tongue wormed it’s way out.

Romney is evil, and perhaps the most hazardous.
He’s likely to get the Gooper nomination on his looks.

  3. missmolly Says:

Look for a great deal more “misspeaking” by Repubs as long as Obama remains in the race. Look also for a great deal of attention to be paid to his Obama’s middle name.

They can’t attack Obama on the issues or his record, so they will do their best to plant the idea in the minds of voters that Obama is a foreign terrorist.

    Pathetic, really.

  4. LividLib Says:

rommel is just being a good repugnican soldier.

  5. Xisithrus Says:

Romney does realise that Obama and Cheney are related doesn’t he?

  6. PatrioticLiberalChristian Says:

OK, if he was just saying “Obama” instead of “Osama”, I’d buy the misspoke idea. But to use the full “Barack Obama” instead of “Osama bin Laden”, and going out of your way to change it from “Osam” to “Barack Obama” is NOT misspeaking if you have any intelligence.

  7. Xisithrus Says:

Hey Romney, check out the OFX text poll. Ron Paul won.

  8. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

I call bullshit! Romney needs to make a very public apology to Barack Obama. This kind of smear tatic is way over the top.

  9. Xisithrus Says:

OFX is, of course, FECKS sNewz.

  10. clb72 Says:

Sorry, not gonna work, Mitt. Every time you say Osama, you remind us of your party’s standard bearer, who’s frittered away our federal treasury not catching the guy.

    OOPS!

    Funny how that happens sometimes.

  17. bob h Says:

but is it godswill? can you tell us bigfoot?

  18. Bullsmith Says:

Front-running Presidential candidates don’t have a lot of peers. If you can’t get their names right, you’re a moron.

Romney should apologize personally and move on. But of course being honest and decent would cost him any hope of winning in today’s GOP.

  19. Shayne Says:

I bet he misspoke, that happens when you are making evil jokes about somebody in private all the time when you get out in public you get confused. I hope he misspeaks more often.

  20. Clumberfeet Says:

Get accustomed to this. By this time next year every Democrat, Liberal, Progressive, whatever will be accused of being part of an Al Qaeda sleeper cell trying to attack America.

Expect an Osama Bin Laden tape to appear encouraging his fellow Jihadists Senator Hillary (did you know she is a) Clinton, Senator Barack (did you know his middle name is Hussein) Obama and the liberal/terror triple secret agent Ron Paul.

    1) This is old news.

    2) This doesn’t make it right. Kennedy’s “misspeak” was wrong, whether it was truly unintentional or not. But to be fair, let’s look at the record here.

    From transcript of Kennedy’s speech:
“Why don’t we just ask Osama bin — Osama Obama — Obama what — since he won by such a big amount. Seriously, Senator Obama is really unique and special.” (Kennedy went on to praise Obama further)

And to be fair, Kennedy was speaking about Osama bin Laden earlier in his speech. His slip-up was more likely a genuine slip-up than it was calculated. Here’s a link to the transcript of his entire speech:
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/ ac2/ wp-dyn/ A4354-2005Jan12?language=printer

    3) Romney actually used the full name “Barack Obama” to refer to Osama bin Laden — something Kennedy never did.

  22. bob h Says:

    another republican macaca moment.

  23. Dumb_Fox Says:

“He was referring to the audiotape of Osama bin Laden and misspoke.”

Eh, Tomato, Tomahto… true patriots just split the difference and aim for the guy with the funny name.

  24. Mugsy Says:

If, after 6 years, Romney still doesn’t know the name “Osama bin Laden” well enough to recognize when he “misspeaks” it, it should automatically disqualify him for the job of Commander-in-Chief.

  25. Leftside Annie Says:

“Mis-spoke” my fat jiggly ass. Stupid git.

  26. natisman Says:

  27. TRDaggett Says:

  29. nanlichi Says:

Hello??? Calling Big O. Your cult brother is catching sht on this thread, jump in and save his Mormon a**.

Osama, Obama.. whatever. They are both spawn of Satan. Isn’t that right Repugnicunts?

  30. Jim Says:

I don’t really doubt that Romney misspoke. But this is a great metaphor for the problem the Republicans have–they’re so busy jabbering on about “Islamofascism” and “giving aid and comfort to our enemies” that they’re completely clueless about who the enemy actually is. For many Republicans, Barack Obama really is as dangerous as Osama bin Laden. People who can’t tell the difference between Obama and bin Laden should not be taken seriously on matters of national security.

  31. dr7854 Says:

Make no mistake, it was not only intentional, but it was fully planned out before hand! He’s not the 1st Republican to pull that shit with Obama in the last year, and he sure won’t be the last. Just wait for them to start in with his middle name being Hussein(not sure I spelled that correctly, but I’m sure you all get the point). If he should win any of the early primaries, then their REALLY going to get nasty. They’ll have that 24% base of theirs foaming at the mouth like the rabid dogs they are! I don’t believe their “followers”, especially down south, will be very discreet about there racist views towards the possibility of a black President either. I expect those Confederate flags, and the way things have been lately, more than a few nooses, will be flying high, and wide. There’s not much I would put past these Republican slugs.

  32. Arne Langsetmo Says:

    Too Stoopid To Be Preznit.

But then, a perfectly fitting candidate for the Rethuglican party (see, e.g., “Dubya”, a/k/a G.W. Bush)….

    Cheers,

  33. Red Pill Says:

Version One: “I misspoke,” in which case Mitt Romney is an idiot and undeserving of high office.

Version Two: “I meant it,” in which case Mitt Romney is petulant hack and undeserving of high office.

  44. dr7854 Says:

Hey there Xisithrus. I 1st ran into Delusional Daryll last night, but it sounds like from your comment, and from many I read last night, that this freak is well known here. Is he for real, or is he as fictional as the fictional character he was freaking out over the revelation of the character being gay last night is? Nobody can be that delusional, can they?

Daryll has been around for some time and with the same talking points, thats undeniable. Is he real or is he memorex? I suppose that doesn’t matter as its the illogical talking points he/she/it makes that I disagree with and I am a Christian, I just dont know where Daryll gets his God is a Republican mish mash.

It’s not from your fellow Christians. It’s from the Fundamentalist Christian movement, and I hope this doesn’t offend you X, but I don’t consider Fundamentalist Christians to be real Christians, just like I don’t consider Fundamentalist Jews, and Muslims to be real Jews, and Muslims, nor Fundamentalist Republicans, or Democrats to be real Republicans, and real Democrats. The Fundamentalist groups are more like cults, complete with brainwashing, than anything else.

  53. Shayne Says:

    Comment by nanlichi — October 23, 2007 @ 2:55

Just what I was thinking. Daryll must know something we don’t. Come on Daryll, does that GOP site that sent you the contest info also let you know who the next rethug to be outed is too. It’s been a couple of days since the last sex scandal, oh wait, there’s the Oral Roberts thingie, and last week there was the guy dead in the wetsuit. Is Mitt next or is he on your list because he’s not a Christian. What does your Jesus say about polygamy Daryll? Is it okay as long as they’re all women?

  54. dr7854 Says:

I do consider these Christian Fundamentalists a major threat to our country though. Far more of a threat than any terrorists ever will be. Especially with one of their own sitting in the Oval Office. The terrorists can knock down a few buildings, and kill a few people, but ONE more seat on the Supreme Court, and we will be as much as a theocracy, as the Taliban were when they ran Afghanistan!

  56. nanlichi Says:

I hope Mitt gets the nod from the R’s side for two reasons, one the fundies are going to hopelessly conflicted. Do they vote for a Mormon or a Democrat??? What to do?

And two, he would get beaten like a stepchild by a woman, which would be utterly disgraceful in his cult’s eyes because women are lesser beings.

I know a lot of people feel that women are subservient but Mormons have codified the concept.

BAHAHA, redeemed his soul? By LYING about being gay? BAHAHA, you wingnuts sure are gullible stupid lot! That explains why YOU believe your soul is redeemed by being a selfish, unchristian closet case that ABUSES his wife by USING her for his own perverted closeting!

And I noticed that 91% of the voters on that little poll are most frightened of a woman. That tells me a great deal about your party.

Interesting how the GOP likes to paint Hillary as the most liberal of liberals, when we consider her pretty conservative compared to the rest of the field.

  66. dr7854 Says:

70- I don’t think I mind, but I guess that depends why you ask Patriotic?

  67. PatrioticLiberalChristian Says:

    dr7854

Just seeing if we had a connection. Your screen name looks like a psychology license number here in Ohio, where I am licensed. I guess I should have put that out first. Sorry.

  68. dr7854 Says:

No doubt about it missmolly! It’s the same with all these Fundamentalists. It’s their severe insecurity that allows them to be brainwashed so easily, and the same insecurity that makes them fear women.

  69. dr7854 Says:

73- No problem Patriotic! Just a lot of loones around here(see:Daryll) so you need to be careful before putting that info out there. No, not Ohio, and not a Dr. They’re just my initials. Anyway, I grew up in Philly, and now live in a Philly suburb, but in NJ. I do have an uncle who is very well known in the field of psychology. He has written several books, mostly on cognitive therapy, and is it Piaget? He was also the head of the Clinical Psych dept. at a major Phila. teaching hospital.

  70. PatrioticLiberalChristian Says:

    dr7854

Thanks. After I posted 73, I recognized that I could be causing problems for you. Now, I see that’s not an issue and I’m relieved. Sometimes I get too trusting here, trying to connect with fellow progressives.

    Anyway, welcome to TP.

  71. dr7854 Says:

Thank you Patriotic! Maybe you can help me, by the way. If you go back, and read my posting #’s 58 & 60, as a TRUE Christian, you do understand my point there, right? My concern is a true Christian, Jew, or Muslim not understanding what I meant, or even understanding it, but being offended anyway. You weren’t offended by what I said, where you?

  72. bilbobaggins Says:

I might buy that he “misspoke” if he had just said “Obama” instead of “Osama”. But to say “Barak Obama” instead of Osama bin Laden is a bit of a stretch to say he “misspoke”.

Anyone want to bet that this gets zero press?

  73. dr7854 Says:

I don’t know bilbo? I think this one was major enough that it will. It might take a couple days, but I think this one rises to a level that they can’t ignore it.

  74. PatrioticLiberalChristian Says:

    dr7854

Oh, stick around if you want to see how and with whom I get offended! St. Daryll and I have had some battles of Biblical proportions. I refer to him and his fundamentalist ilk as “Christian Pharisees”. A major reason I come to TP is to demonstrate that there are progressive Christians who don’t want or need the power of the government to live the true values that Jesus described. I have more respect for the non-believers who are loving, tolerant, and caring than I do the attack-dog Christians who are arrogant, judmental demogogues themselves.

#39-I’m glad I’m not the only one understands Bush’s constant use of “the Democrat party!”
    Comment by dr7854

Bush is far from the only one to do that. Most Republicans refer to the Democratic Party as the Democrat Party. It is intentional rudeness. That’s why I get on the case of people on this blog who unintentionally say the same thing. We need to be aware of their insults and not perpetuate them.

  76. Xisithrus Says:

    Comment by Daryll — October 23, 2007

Such was point in asking the question. You want to condemn others for their actions, even though the bible tells you not to judge. You have judged Haggards soul safe when you dont know that.

Judge not, lest you be judged.

  77. dr7854 Says:

80- I think that’s great Patriotic! Personally, although I am Jewish, I only consider it my heritage, and like I believe everyone should be about their own religion, or heritage, I am very proud to be Jewish, but I do not believe in god, although I do admit anything is possible. I couldn’t agree with you more about your “loving, tolerant, and caring” comment. Those traits are what REALLY are important. I believe that those traits are what America was really founded on, and what our Constitution is based upon. Human decency! Something painfully missing from the current court jesters!

Did anyone look at the “reasons” why they are scary? It is ridiculous. The reasons are that they are Liberal. No issues, or logical arguments about the good or bad they would do for the country. How does anyone take the Republicans seriously anymore? It is funded by the RNC.

This just makes me sick - the logical and productive debates about different policy decisions have been degraded into the Democrats trying to talk about the issues and the Republicans saying that they are the boogey man so don’t believe anything they say. The Republicans are running SOLELY on what their crystal ball says - regardless of any facts.

  84. dr7854 Says:

89- If only they had a crystal ball! It seems to me they go by the flip of a coin.

  85. The Shadow Says:

Mitt Romney is an AZZHOLE! Yes I said it you low down, mormon Ahole. You words prove that you believe exactly what your faith teaches. That is to hate those who aren’t white and lie when asked about it. I wouldn’t vote for you if you paid me to. It’s racists like Romney that bring America down and make the terrorist stronger. Apparently Romney is a member of the local KKK and is trying to make sure he gets their votes.

  92. Bluestocking Says:

Show of hands…how many people actually believe this lame-ass excuse from Romney? C’mon, don’t be shy…

    Anyone…?

    Anyone at all…?

    *crickets*

Puh-leeeeeeeeze…nobody buys it because the right-wingers have been trotting out this same pathetic Obama/Osama crap for ages now. Even if they hadn’t, Romney’s excuse would still be about as threadbare as George Allen’s claim that he made up the word ‘macaca” and had no idea that it was a racial slur. At best, it was a Freudian slip — and probably, it was nowhere nearly as accidental as he wants us to think. It’s not been accidental when the right-wingers have done it in the past, and I have absolutely no reason to believe that it’s accidental now — and all it does is demonstrate that there are virtually no depths to which this man, a self-proclaimed Christian, is not prepared to sink. Then again…am I surprised? Not on your life…
