Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), who gave a speech last night as part of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, will announce at a press conference today that he has been hired as a bi-weekly columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer. In April, Inquirer editor Brian P. Tierney told Philadelphia Magazine that there was a “one out of 1,000” chance Santorum would write a column for the paper. (HT: Atrios)
UPDATE: Attending an Islamo-Fascism Week event last night, Santorum said Islam is “not just something you do on Sunday.” Actually, the Muslim holy day of prayer is on Friday.
Eww. More hateful lies to come from the right wing ideologues. Ick.
October 24th, 2007 at 1:09 pmWhy is this idiot getting a column? Have we run out of human beings?
October 24th, 2007 at 1:11 pmaffirmitive action fo rich white men.
October 24th, 2007 at 1:12 pmSantorum…a bi-weekly columnist – - Oh, he’s bi alright.
October 24th, 2007 at 1:13 pmWhat, Brian P. Tierney (who probably bought the paper with the intention of winning Santorum the election) did a flip-flop? That’s just not characteristic of the man. After all he was paid very handsomely to lie for the Catholic Church for goodness sake. He’s a pillar. Maybe that’s what Santorum likes about him so much.
October 24th, 2007 at 1:18 pmMaybe they meant one of those adjustable screw-jack columns in the basement.
October 24th, 2007 at 1:23 pmPoor Ricky.
Philadelphia Inquirer?
October 24th, 2007 at 1:23 pmHis columns belong in the National Enquirer.
His radical right-wing columns will give more evidence on why he is a former senator and not a current senator.
October 24th, 2007 at 1:26 pmComic relief??
October 24th, 2007 at 1:30 pmRick Sanitarium : man on dog sex therapist and the foremost expert on Intelligent Design, now has his own bi-weekly column to show Philly and Pennsylvania his vast knowledge ……….
BTW
October 24th, 2007 at 1:31 pmWhat’s he gonna’ write after the 1st sentence…….?
Santorum is a wingnut! He was my senator and I am so glad he is gone. He facilitated the Bush administration’s squandering of the health, wealth and security of this nation. He probably thought that Bush would deed to him the state of Pennsylvania for his efforts – he is that dangerous.
I wish all the worst for Santorum and now the Philadelphia Inquirer. I also plan to route against Philly sporting teams – I hate Santorum that much. If Philly wishes to do something good for this nation, one of its inhabitants should “pick” him.

Hey now! They have SOME standards, you know…
October 24th, 2007 at 1:35 pmSantorum said:
“While Christianity presents a humble, meek message emphasizing
love, he said, Islam stemmed from the strong rule of the prophet
Mohammed. “Every aspect of life was ruled.â€
“Islam, unlike Christianity, is an all-encompassing ideology,†said
Santorum, a Penn State alumnus. “It is not just something you do on
Sunday…. We (as Americans) don’t get that.â€
You got that Christians. Santorum said christianity is for Sundays only. So shut the fu(k up the other six days of the week.

October 24th, 2007 at 1:41 pmlove, he said, Islam stemmed from the strong rule of the prophet
Mohammed. “Every aspect of life was ruled.†– - Right, and “our” God says we shall have no Gods before him. So it’s HIS way or the eternal highway (to hell).
Rick “wanna see pictures of our fetus” Santorum.
October 24th, 2007 at 1:41 pmThis column is going to be Santorum’s launching platform for his 2010 gubernatorial campaign. Mark your calendars…he wants to be Governor Man-On-Dog…

Does this apply to Judaism, too? Cause there are a few commandments I’d like to break.

Yeah , unlike Christianity , where homosexuality is not at all discouraged and where men and women are viewed as equals ; quite the message of “love” there , jackass………
(Buffoon.)
For those of you who haven’t yet partaken of this particularly sick kind of fun, Google the word “Santorum” and follow the first link. (www.spreadingsantorum.com)
And here’s a musical interlude in observance of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week:

October 24th, 2007 at 1:50 pmI can’t believe a news organization would let a conservative write. This is really out there. Normally they only let the far left write and report the news.
October 24th, 2007 at 1:51 pmAttending an Islamo-Fascism Week event last night, Santorum said Islam is “not just something you do on Sunday.†Actually, the Muslim holy day of prayer is on Friday.
so then he was right, in a way… lol
October 24th, 2007 at 1:54 pm“Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week” ?
The current Reich is really starting to frighten me now.
October 24th, 2007 at 1:54 pmLet me get this straight — Santorum is criticizing Muslims because they allow their faith to guide their lives all the time instead of one day a week? And suggesting that Christians only practice their faith on Sundays?
Wow — only one phrase and he manages to insult people of two major religions.
October 24th, 2007 at 2:00 pm“While Christianity presents a humble, meek message emphasizing
love, he said, Islam stemmed from the strong rule of the prophet
Mohammed. “Every aspect of life was ruled.â€
Santorum hasn’t met too many Christians, apparently, nor ever cracked a history text. He sure hasn’t met Daryll, or he’d know all about the “rules”.

This whole idea was hatched by Santorum and David Horowitz. Thom Hartmann had Horowitz on his show the other day and he annihilated him. That guy is a hate-filled crackpot. If he and the others have their way, they will require all Muslims in this country to wear a scarlet letter. Their whole intention is to force Muslims in this country to either declare they are with their movement or if they don’t do that, then they will be branded terrorists.
What has happened to the country I loved so much? I can’t seem to find her these days.
October 24th, 2007 at 2:09 pm#24 bilbobaggins, You’re comment was flagged ‘abusive’ as soon as it was posted just like mine.
Lets try it again.

Weekly World News is more fitting, right behind the weekly batboy sightings.

Looks the same to me. Our radical reactionary wing has just shifted the target of hatred to a new group, that’s all. First it was Americans, then the Chinese and Irish, then the Italians, then the Jews, then the Japanese, then the Negroes, then the gays, then the Mexicans, and now it’s the Muslims. I can only imagine what it’ll be when they run out of minorities. Glaciers, I guess.
October 24th, 2007 at 2:41 pmconsterno creeps always get their own outlets… Ollie North, GG Liddy, Rush, Rick, etc.

Ruled like say , those who live in poverty and had , say , a US Senator constantly vote “Nay” on a bill that would raise the minimum wage , thus raising their standard of living , shithead ?
October 24th, 2007 at 2:57 pmOh, blech.

Like the Spanish Inquisition ?
October 24th, 2007 at 3:05 pmOr the Crusades ?
Insantorum’s column = toilet paper(except that it would give me a rash)
October 24th, 2007 at 3:07 pmUnfortunately, many politicians have also forgotten that Christianity is decidedly **NOT** what you do on Sunday. Rather it is much more what you do 24/7.
As the last words of the Mass state (and everyone listens to because it means church is over):
The Mass is over, GO IN PEACE TO LOVE AND SERVE THE LORD.
October 24th, 2007 at 3:22 pmGoes to show the amazingly low standards the Philadelphia Inquirer has for hiring columnists.
“Islam is not just for Sundays” Santorum. What a joke.
October 24th, 2007 at 3:29 pm“In Philadelphia nearly everyone reads the Bulletin”????
October 24th, 2007 at 3:36 pmSantorum said people “should not be offended by a description of a way of thought.”
Since when has Rickie ‘Rooster’ Santorum been guilty of thinking. He is totally incapable of any “way of thought”.
October 24th, 2007 at 4:27 pmwill announce at a press conference today that he has been hired as a bi-weekly columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Now this should give a boost to the “letters to the editor” section.
October 24th, 2007 at 4:29 pmOH MY GOD! The Inquirer endorsed CASEY in the election of 2006. Why the hell is it hiring this moron?
October 24th, 2007 at 6:56 pmWell, Santorum’s comment shows one of two things (not necessarily mutually exclusive).
October 24th, 2007 at 9:08 pmOne, he’s a religious bigot. Not only does he not know when Muslims observe their Sabbath but he’s denigrating Muslims who follow the tenets of their faith. (As anyone who’s done any minimal research on Islam can tell you, Islam is not JUST about religion. It’s a whole manner in which one’s supposed to live his life.)
Two, he’s not a REAL Christian. How many times do we hear the megachurch preachers calling for “the faithful” to “live their faith”? How many times have the Religious Right leaders called for “the faithful” to “vote their faith”? (The latter point is especially telling since almost no voting takes place on Sunday.) Obviously, the megapreachers and the Religious Right are in agreement that Christians (of all stripes) shouldn’t view their faith as “just something you do on Sunday”.
