A new poll finds that the American public not only doubts whether the Bush administration’s foreign policy is working, but is “increasingly skeptical about whether anything can turn the situation around.” Seventy-nine percent believe that the world “has become more dangerous” for the United States, and 64 percent “think the rest of the world sees the U.S. negatively.”

A telephone poll of 1011 people? Puh-leeeze. Half of those same people probably think Saddam was in cahoots with al-Qaeda over 9/11.
October 24th, 2007 at 3:51 pmreality is so damned real.
October 24th, 2007 at 3:52 pmIt’s a poll! How the heck would they know?
Comment by michael — October 24, 2007 @ 3:54 pm
Yeah! Since when did government derive power from the consent of the governed? Who do these “people” think they are, citizens???
October 24th, 2007 at 3:58 pmAnd clearly this is just an opportunity for Bush to prove he’s relevant by making more disastrous decisions that go against the will of the people. Thanks Bush!
October 24th, 2007 at 3:58 pmGeorge Bush took the unprecedented good will of the rest of the world that followed 9/11 and turned it into this.
After 9/11 the world was more willing to work with us in eliminating terrorist groups worldwide than ever before. It was a unique moment where we had an opportunity to make greater in-roads than ever before against the thread of terrorism.
Instead, we thumbed our nose at the world and we invaded Iraq. Where there was no significant terrorist presence. And then we bungled the occupation.
I don’t see how any sane, logical, honest person who looks at the world and world events with clear eyes, untainted by partisanship and idiology, can continue to support this administration and their actions.
October 24th, 2007 at 3:58 pmthe surprising thing is that anyone would find this surprising… you only have to look at what happened to chris dodd’s campaign when he announced his hold on the fisa bill… as greenwald says, “That is why Dodd’s relatively mild actions have generated such intense enthusaism and support — a drop of water to someone stranded in the desert will seem like a royal feast.” we’re dying for lack of leadership and, as glenn so well puts it, even a tiny bit looks like a LOT when we haven’t seen any for so long…
And, yes, I DO take it personally

You seem to think you know. On any & every topic you think you know all there is to know and everyone else is wrong. Similarly, on any & every issue you think GWB is right & the Dems are wrong. At some point even you have to realize that you’re not really thinking at all, you’re just answering from the right regardless. That just makes you stupid.
October 24th, 2007 at 4:03 pmWorst. President. Ever.
October 24th, 2007 at 4:06 pmI remember this quaint little concept called Democracy.
It’s when the will of the people is not only acknowledged, but its respected and acted upon.
If Bush claimed a mandate with 51%… what the heck is it called when there are numbers like this?
And what do you call people who ignore the will of the people and continue to follow their agenda?
October 24th, 2007 at 4:13 pmDigDug & Toasterhead: Well said. That pretty much sums it all up.

October 24th, 2007 at 4:16 pmRemember, Repubs don’t believe in polls, so the fact that 4/5 of Americans are in direct opposition to them just means that they’ll have to bury their heads in the sand (or up Cheney’s butt) just a little deeper to retatin their delusional outlook.
October 24th, 2007 at 4:16 pmWe are the nazi aggressors now: the Bush gangsters and their right-wing media fellowtravelers are absurdly labeling patriotic Iraqi nationalists defending their country against foreign imperial occupiers as “terrorists.”
By this bit of insane illogic, they are trying to say that America was founded by terrorists in 1776. Bush & Company are in effect saying that George Washington was a terrorist, when he led the defense of the young United States against the colonial imperial British occupation. The British occupiers claimed the seemingly endless American forests of tall trees as timber for the Royal British Navy… Colonial imperial occupation aims to control and steal vital natural resources: things haven’t changed much since 1776, except that now we are the imperial aggressors…

October 24th, 2007 at 4:16 pm19 — Oh, I dunno, Veritas – maybe *HIS* vote will count.
It’s yours and mine that I worry about….

And remember, Bush’s people said this huge mandate (51%) allowed his administration to create their own reality. We should have know we were doomed when those words were spoken.

October 24th, 2007 at 4:32 pmOK, polls say this, and polls say that. How about Democrats saying “Time to impeach the pair of Bush and Cheney” before they decide to bomb Iran? Or should we sit back on watch the polls plummet after they do this and say “Tsk, tsk.”

Bush claimed in 2004 that he was given political capital and planned to “spend it.” Somebody should tell him that the balance in his political capital checkbook has delved deep into the negative numbers.
October 24th, 2007 at 4:39 pmKeep dreaming Lefty. I vote every election, without fail. You, on the other hand, probably either: (a) have to get your civil rights restored first; (b) haven’t bothered to register; (c) are too busy waiting at home for your government entitlements to arrive; (d) are so confident in Dem victory that you won’t bother to show up; (e) will waste your vote on a Green party or Socialist party candidate; or (f) don’t vote at all so that you can say “I didn’t vote for that loser.â€
Comment by TCDon — October 24, 2007 @ 4:39 pm
well, aren’t you smart. Let’s see how smart you are when my vote helps destroy your filthy, greedy, treasonous scumsucking GOP next fall. You’re all done, kid, just wipe yourself and leave.
October 24th, 2007 at 4:43 pmReally? How shocking.
October 24th, 2007 at 4:49 pmTCDon,
Not only do I vote in every election, I work the polls and GOTV for every election and WOW. I’ve managed to turn a predominately RED voting district into a BLUE voting district. That is, the Democrats win in a predominately RED district. So tcdon… be afraid, be very afraid. Howard Dean’s 50 state plan is alive and well and succeeding and growing.
October 24th, 2007 at 4:51 pmEnjoy your little fantasy while it lasts, TCDon.

October 24th, 2007 at 5:09 pmThe ‘08 election will once again be decided by the I-4 corridor between Tampa and Orlando, and since Dean in all of his wisdom has all but abandoned Florida, he has doomed the Democratic party to lose Florida’s electoral votes.

October 24th, 2007 at 5:14 pmAs a Democrat I believe Hillary will be our next president my only concern is that a series of events or a scenario such as lets say…Hillary gains 10 lbs, starts a heavy menstrual cycle then catches Bill with Britteny Spears and a box of cigars all in the same day she might just start pushing buttons and that scares me to death.

Not only is it completely sexist, it’s erroneous. Chances of Hillary having a menstrual cycle are slim, since she is well past menopause age. Furthermore, she is aware of Bill’s character, so while she may not like his behavior, I doubt she’d be shocked by it. She would coolly mete out punishment to him instead of starting global thermonuclear warfare. And contrary to what some people think, women seldom go ballistic when they gain 10 pounds — that’s a false stereotype.
No, this is typical caveman thinking about women in general. Only reactionaries like Billy Hill buy into it. But since Billy is so easily scared to death…
BOO! I’M A WOMAN!
(gosh, that was fun — now will somebody pick Billy up off the floor?)

How can you people live with yourselves?

October 24th, 2007 at 7:53 pmBilly – been following your scat for awhile and you are beginning to sound like the bar room drunk fill-osi-fur ready to solve the worlds problems with a string of total worthless babble and nonsense. ” As A Democrat” . . or what ever, it comes off as uneducated BS. Stay on point or head on back to Freeper-Fresno . . . .
Bottom line is the people may just be ready to accept the fact that Captain Codpiece has no idea that he has destroyed the economic and international stature of a great nation and the sooner he turns the Baghdad Embassy into the GWBush Lieberry and begins his long waited “speaking tours” the better off the world will be. Can you imagine our “elder statesman” traveling the world on a good will tour . . . yea right, first stop . . the Hague.
October 24th, 2007 at 11:23 pmReply Comment by Michael: You are fooling yourself if you think that these people have no right to feeling the way they do. Take is from someone who has traveled to other countries around the world, it matters. The American people aren’t fools, no matter how much propaganda the Republican party puts out, they can think for themselves. I don’t want live in a country where everyone thinks alike, that’s not a democracy. It’s a dictatorship, which is what Republicans want for America. Fortunately Karl (Marxist) Rove was forced to resign because he’s a power hungry person who tried to destroy the Constitution. Too many soldiers and people died fighting to form the Country to have a bunch of hateful, bigotted, power crased fools take it away from us. So go back to your cave and wait another 100 years then try again my friend.
