Rudy Jokes About Torture: ‘On That Theory, I’m Getting Tortured Running For President’»

rudy.jpgAsked last night in Iowa about Attorney General nominee Michael Mukasey’s refusal to call waterboarding torture, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) said “it depends on the circumstances” and “on who does it” because “liberal newspapers have exaggerated it.”

Giuliani then called liberals “silly” for describing “sleep deprivation” as torture, joking that “on that theory, I’m getting tortured running for president of the United States”:

And I see, when the Democrats are talking about torture, they’re not just talking about even this definition of waterboarding, which again, if you look at the liberal media and you look at the way they describe it, you could say it was torture and you shouldn’t do it. But they talk about sleep deprivation. I mean, on that theory, I’m getting tortured running for president of the United States. That’s plain silly. That’s silly.

Giuliani should familiarize himself with the US Army Field Manual on Interrogation, which describes “abnormal sleep deprivation” as a form of mental torture. Both the European Court of Human Rights and the Supreme Court of Israel have ruled sleep deprivation to be inhumane and unlawful.

Even John Yoo, the prime author of the administrations infamous torture memo, has conceded that sustained sleep deprivation can “amount to a violation of the Geneva Convention.”

Giuliani’s dismissive joke echoes a similarly tasteless joke made by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld in 2002. In the margins of an “action memo” declaring “stress positions,” such as standing for up to 4 hours, to be acceptable interrogation techniques, Rumsfeld scrawled “I stand for 8-10 hours a day. Why is standing limited to four hours?

  1. Luis M Says:

I’d like to see him get no sleep at all for 4 nights in a row. Only then can he claim that he’s getting “tortured”.

    Ha. Ha. Freaking. Ha.

  2. lefty Says:

    I thought we don’t torture.

  3. profmarcus Says:

it’s just one more example of how our propaganda machine and its spokespeople are assiduously working to move torture into acceptance as a norm of our society… such statements are not facetious or joking… that is merely camouflage for their real intent - persuading us that torture is indeed a legitimate tool of governments… it’s sad and sick and is killing our soul…

And, yes, I DO take it personally

  4. MCMetal Says:

What is with these goddamn GOP whack jobs ?

Chimpy talks of WWIII , while wearing that stupid looking , braying jackass smirk of his……

Now , Fruity Rudy believes torture is laughable ?

    His family life is laughable………….

  5. Fan of Man Says:

its torture to have to see rudy at any time.

  6. Some Guy in Seattle Says:

    Rudy ‘08.

we’re the ones being tortured here. and i fail to see the humor.

  7. Arne Langsetmo Says:

Can we waterboard him now? Please?!?!? Shouldn’t be any problem; we’ll even let him volunteer, and stop when he cries “Uncle!!!”.

Or better yet, let’s let the NYFD and the 911 “Jersey Girls” do it….

Disclaimer: I don’t actually want anyone waterboarded. But in fairness to the discussion, the folks that think it’s OK ought to be given every opportunity to demonstrate that claim….

    Cheers,

  8. gulfwargrunt Says:

I would like Giuliani, who avoided the Vietnam draft and never served in the military, to describe any episode in his life where he exhibited physical courage or volutarily endured physical pain. Everybody thinks he’s such a “tough guy”, but with what evidence?

  9. Clyde the Ripper Says:

Giuliano running for president is the second ultimate tasteless joke. The first one won.

Logic, on the other hand, is just getting aggressively interrogated.

  11. imorgan82 Says:

I think we should challenge every presidential candidate that supports waterboarding to be waterboarded on camera and then look the American public in the eye immediately after being pulled out to tell us that he doesn’t see what all the fuss is about. Colbert should be able to corner them into that.

Also, bartlebee is an itchy sphincter.

  12. ralph the wonder llama Says:

In Rudy’s defense, bad taste though it was, the line is at least identifiable as a joke.

Not that it was funny, but it has the requisite structure of a joke — setup, “punch”, overturning of expectations.

Beck’s “haters of America losing their homes”, on the other hand — I still haven’t figured out what the “joke” there is supposed to be.

  13. toasterhead Says:

I second this. It’s not torture, so they should jump at the chance.

  16. toasterhead Says:

#8 - that will make a great tagline for the GOP in 2008. Liberals would rather waterboard Republicans than terrorists.

Comment by Liberals Are Filled With Hate — October 25, 2007 @ 1:37 pm

    There’s a difference?

  17. JMOHR Says:

This is the scary part of the Republican/right wing noise machine. It is their intent to remove the revulsion and disgust at tactics that have been condemned by all civilized countries. It is an insidious attempt to desensitize the American public by down playing the impact of such tactics. We all know that sleep deprivation goes far beyond missing a good night’s sleep. We all know the potential for serious mental and physical impact of these tactics on the victim.

We need to challenge such people to defend their stance by permitting themselves to be “interrogated” by such tactics. Let us see how well they stand up.

We also know that the successful incorporation of these tactics into these situations will see them used (long term) for interrogation of our citizens. Suspected of a sex crime, selling drugs - why not?

  18. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper Says:

“You people are truly filled with hate,” says the guy who approves of our government using torture in our names. If it wasn’t so damn sick, it would be kind of funny in a tragicomic sense.

  19. toasterhead Says:

or even better, blow up a building or a shopping mall or do something that waterboarding has helped prevent.

Comment by Liberals Are Filled With Hate — October 25, 2007 @ 1:39 pm

Please provide us with an example of this. Show me one case where a terrorist with actual operational attack plans (not a “hey, let’s deliver pizzas to a military base and then pee in their canteens” plot) was stopped due to waterboarding.

  20. linda Says:

torture is a joke to rudy. and to the repigs who support him and mitt and hunter and tancredo and thompson. and, fyi, a recent vanity fair article following the development of torture as part of u.s. policy, noted that many in the fbi were disgusted by the ‘mormon mafia’ who were primarily responsible.

and the mittster wants to double the size of gitmo. well, at least it’d be a jobs program for mormoms…

  21. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper Says:

Rudy is a candidate who has hired a former priest guilty of sexually abusing young boys to be part of his organization. So, he tacitly approves of sexually abusing children along with his stance in support of torture. He’s also married to a woman who killed puppies by demonstrating medical equipment on them.

Rudy is the sick sociopath’s first choice to lead the nation.

  22. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper Says:

Sociopathic Bush cultist and Rudy supporter: “If only Atta had been waterboarded after the 8/6/01 pdp.”

Hey stupid: Atta didn’t need to be tortured. All Colleen Rowley had to do was check his computer, but the FBI wouldn’t let her do that. It’s all in the record, stupid. We just needed to be competent, not monsters.

  23. AngryOne Says:

Giuliani may have been following Michael Mukasey’s line on waterboarding yesterday, but on May 15th he was all for it - and just about everything else:

GIULIANI: In the hypothetical that you gave me, which assumes that we know there is going to be another attack and these people know about it, I would tell the people who had to do the interrogation to use every method they can think of. Shouldn’t be torture, but every method they can think of.
    HUME: Water boarding?

GIULIANI: I would say every method they could think of, and I would support them in doing that because I have seen - [applause] - I have seen what can happen when you make a mistake about this and I don’t want to see another 3,000 people dead in New York or any place else.

    For more details, see:
“Giuliani Flip-Flops on Waterboarding, Jokes About Torture.”

  24. DRxJ Says:

Torture? Hahahahahahahahaha. You Republicans crack me up. What’s next?
The victims of the Santa Ana wind fires?
    Crack whores?
    Clubbed baby seals?

  25. SWBob Says:

. . .former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) said “it depends on the circumstances” and “on who does it”. . . .

Great logic here. . . guess if it’s done to Rudy, it’s torture, but to “bad guys” it’s creative interviewing. What an idiot.

  27. toasterhead Says:

This is the logic by which fascist dictatorships are born.

  29. desaparecido Says:

First of all #33 are you suggested that Hawkish, pro-market capitalist Hillary is “radical”? Because that’s hilarious in a really painful way.. sort of like this http://www.tshirtinsurgency.com

Most of us “radicals” belive in issues, rather than idolizing some slick looking cadidate who says he/she cares. I’d bet 95% of people reading this site would rebuke Hillary or any other Dem. candidate who wouldn’t scale back Bush’s torture policies. Not only that, most of us don’t like the Democrat’s either, they’re just the closest thing we have to someone we’d like to see in ofice. Mostly, we think they suck too, they’re just not as bad or duplicitous as Republicans in general.

  30. desaparecido Says:

    “suggesting” i mean..

  31. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper Says:

Poor, misguided sociopathic Bush cultist says “please stop it.” Oh, Ok. But, how about you stop saying things like “I wish they would have waterboarded Atta.” That’s complete bullcrap whether you know it or not. The record shows that they had Atta in custody and all they had to do was check his laptop and keep him in custody. No torture was required. The FBI wouldn’t allow Colleen Rowley to check his computer even though she had suspicions about his motives and plans. Only unamerican sociopaths want us to torture people. Real Americans understand that you deal with terrorism by using effective, competent law enforcement cooperating with other agencies and, yes, the military.

  32. Dumb_Fox Says:

I am almost hoping Hillary wins to see if you radicals are actually against torture or just vicious partisans.

  37. Canuck Stuck in Muck Says:

I’m confused. Rudy doesn’t know if it’s torture. Apparently, Mukasey doesn’t know if it’s torture. But, isn’t the answer obvious? If it wasn’t torture, why would they be doing it in the first place? If it wasn’t intended to cause them extreme physical discomfort, or scare the p outa them, or make them think they were gonna die (or wish they were dead), what’s the point? So, someone should fire back that, regardless of the “context” or “who’s doing it” or “the kind of information you could potentially garner,” it’s all torture! They won’t have a response, I guarantee it.

  38. gummitch Says:

Comment by Liberals Are Filled With Hate — October 25, 2007 @ 2:02 pm

Good thing only liberals are filled with hate or that remark might have been offensive.

I’d rather someone quietly washed feet in the airport than bellowed their personal life into a cell phone, and we manage to accommodate that behavior.

Why are you so afraid of everything different?

  42. toasterhead Says:

#34 - no, it’s indicative of a larger problem. Liberals HATE Christianity and Israel, but bend over backwards for radical rituals by, generally speaking, our enemies in the War on Terror. Radical Muslims are the best thing to happen to you since your beloved Soviet Union collapsed.

Comment by Liberals Are Filled With Hate — October 25, 2007 @ 1:58 pm

Foot-washing isn’t really a radical ritual. It’s something you should do every day, actually. Bromidrosis, or Stink-Foot, is a common malady afflicting Muslims, Christians, Jews, and others who wear tennis shoes or the occasional python boot. Points to anyone who gets this reference.

Now, as for your broader question, I hate to disappoint you but we don’t hate Christianity and we don’t hate Israel. What we do hate is bigotry, and when Christians (or Israel, for that matter) commit acts of bigotry, such as accusing all Muslims of being our “enemies in the War on Terror,” we speak out against it.

I’m still having difficulty seeing what’s so radical about washing your feet. It’s a pretty simple task - just lather, rinse, and repeat. Maybe use a loofah or pumice to remove callouses. Clip the toenails a bit every few days.

  54. Vet Says:

Here’s what I don’t understand. Why don’t the Repukes (like our Liberal-hating Troll-of-the-day) just come out and say “I support any and all forms of torture if I know the person has information about an immenent attack”.

They all believe that in their hearts, despite the fact that EVERY expert on such things says that torture doesn’t work. They just don’t have the cajones to own up to their true beliefs.

They just keep dancing around the definition of “torture” and throwing out strawmen as a distraction.

They hate what America used to stand for and could care less about the rest of the world.

  65. foreyes Says:

Giuliani then called liberals “silly” for describing “sleep deprivation” as torture, joking that “on that theory, I’m getting tortured running for president of the United States”:

Rudy doesn’t seem to understand the difference between subjecting yourself to stress voluntarily which means you can stop anytime you want and being FORCED into stress situation such as sleep deprivation. His argument is actually very silly and CRUEL.

Among the many components of what can be considered torture is the uncertainty of when it will stop. By this rule, keeping prisoners locked up for an indefinite period of time whithout recourse to justice while telling them that they can be kept there for as long as the authorities want (Guantanamo), is a form of torture in my view. We will realize this when we finally learn the actual number of prisoners who have committed suicide while in that prison.

One common line in the stories of people who have been subjected to torture is that thery are told by the torturers that noone will be able to do anything about their situation and that nobody cares.

And for the record, we do. We respect all faiths, and believe they can all coexist peacefully.

We feel that Christians and Muslims and Jews and Buddhists and Atheists should have an equal right to practice their faith, so long as one’s religious practices don’t interfere with the civil rights of others. We don’t feel that government should favor one over the others. We don’t feel that members of one should be allowed to discriminate against the others in employment and other decisions. And we don’t feel that members of one faith should be slandering the others.

    See the difference?

Do you understand the difference between extreme dislike of corrupt leaders and “hating your country”? Did you people “Hate Your Country” when you attacked Bill Clinton every step of the way? You are regurgitating Limbaugh’s, O’Reiily’s, and Coulter’s, nonsense.

That’s the first statement you got right all day!!! The Dems are complicit in Bushco’s destruction of the Constitution. They assume they’ll take the White House, and look forward to keeping all the Executive power that Darth Cheney has looted.

Ghoul-i-Annie, if you remember, backed and praised the NYPD when they sodomized Louima, shot and killed unarmed Diallo 41 times, and Dorismond was shot during a drug setup. He is hated in NYC, and if this monster gets in, we can expect the same for the entire world that he did in New York. The man is a psychotic sociopath, and I will even vote for Hillary to keep Little Mussolini out.

Washing one’s feet is considered terrorism now?

    Comment by toasterhead — October 25, 2007 @ 1:52 pm

Didn’t you get the memo, toasterhead? Washing of the feet is part of “wudu”, the ritual cleansing Muslims do before they pray. And we already know from the Minneapolis airport incident with the six imams that Muslim prayer is a grave threat to non-Muslim Americans, whose right to bigotry supercedes Muslims’ right to practice their religion.

It sounds like Rudy not only condones torture, he actually kind of gets off on it.

I was never comfortable with Giuliani before, and I’m less so now.

  82. missmolly Says:

When Queen Hillary is throned and torture continues, will you care?

Comment by Liberals Are Filled With Hate — October 25, 2007 @ 2:05 pm

You bet I will. If Hillary condones torture, or if it continues during her term, I will protest it as loudly as I do now. If Hillary invades another country with as much flimsy justification as we invaded Iraq, I will condemn it. If Hillary’s staff ignores subpoenas from Congress, I will contact my Congressman and demand contempt citations. And if Hillary tramples on the constitution to augment her executive powers, I will be the first to call for her impeachment.

I am not a hypocrite. The standards I expect Bush to meet (and he hasn’t met them) are standards I would apply to ANY president, regardless of party.

Well Spoken!! I 100% agree. I think Hillary is trying to out “macho” the war drum beaters, and all of the AIPAC whores are dancing to another country’s/Defense Industry’s/Oil Company’s tune instead of the people of the USA.

We, the progressives, that have moral values and respect the rule of law don’t find TORTURE FUNNY ahole.

    Liberals are Filled with Hate:

    1. You are either an ignorant fool or a liar. Please site a specifica statute or regulation that prevented Atta’s compute from being searched. Your allegation refers to so called walls between intelligence agencies (CIA) and domestic law enforcement agencies exchanging information. The decision concerning Atta’s computer was made all within the FBI. But I demand you show your specific reference or the admission that you simply do not know what you are talking about.

    2. You have accused liberals of being like Hitler. I am sorry, but you are the person who would stand behind the tactics adopted by tyrants.

    a. The United States has prosecuted US military personnel for using the types of “enhanced interrogation techniques” such as water boarding that you have advocated. Prosecution were undertaken in the Spanish American War, WWII, and the Vietnam War.

    b. The NAZI government actually first coined the term “enhanced interrogation” techniques such as you advocate. Indeed, NAZI’s and Japanese military officers/civilians were tried for committing war crime by adopting these tactics.

    c. You call liberals wrong headed for criticizing the same tactics that were used by the KGB and, during the Korean War against US POW’s. You honestly support the same tactics that were used against John McCain by the North Vietnamese?

    d. The Judge Advocate General of every single uniformed service advocated against the Bush torture memo. Indeed, the JAG’s were excluded from further discussions of the proposed rule after they objected. Do you honestly believe that they hate their country?

TO SUMMARIZE: LIBERALS ARE LIKE HITLER BECAUSE THEY OBJECT TO THE USE OF TACTICS BY THIS ADMINISTRATION THAT HAVE BEEN DE-CRIED AS WAR CRIMES (AND TREATED AS A CRIME WHEN COMMITTED BY US CITIZENTS) BY EVERY SINGLE US ADMINISTRATION SINCE THE SPANISH AMERICAN WAR.

YOU CONDONE THE TACTICS USED BY HITLER, THE NORTH KOREANS, KGB, AND EVERY OTHER FASCIST GOVERNMENT IN RECENT HISTORY. INDEED, YOU ENDORSE THE TACTICS THAT EVERY US AND INTERNATIONAL COURT OF LAW HAS RULED TO BE A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY. YET, LIBERALS ARE THE ONES LIKE HITLER.

    3. I could probably understand if such tactics were actually useful. However, they usually lead to misinformation on the part of the subject and not good actionable intelligence. (Oh yes, I have been through a number of interrogation sessions with state and federal law enforcement.) Indeed, anyone can usually resist long enough for their information to become stale. The subject will also mislead until you catch them in their lies. THE TACTICS THAT YOU FAVOR WERE ACTUALLY ONES DEVELOPED TO WRING OUT FALSE CONFESSIONS FOR PROPAGANDA AND SHOW TRIAL PURPOSES. HOWEVER, YOU ARE THE TRUE PATRIOT FOR SUGGESTING THEIR USE.

I wish that I could hate you. Unfortunately, I only feel sorry for you and your sick sense of patriotism. Indeed, you are the one who truly hates this country. You hate the constitution and rule of law that has made this country great. You hate this countries dedication to human rights that, up until this administration, gave it great weight and admiration in the world. You hate this country’s dedication to the rule of law that has been the foundation of this democracy.

Mostly, I take pity on you. You must be such a coward and so frightened by the “terrorists” who pose a serious issue but nothing like the threats faced by this country during the Cold War, WWI, WWII, the Korean conflict and others that cost so many more lives than did the World Trade Tower attack and actually threatened the existence of so many countries without costing us our form of government or respect for the rule of law. Please find the backbone to be a real American.

    Testimony: Mob considered killing Giuliani
    BY ANTHONY M. DESTEFANO
    Newsday.com

    October 25, 2007

The bosses of New York’s five Cosa Nostra families discussed killing then-federal prosecutor Rudy Giuliani in 1986, an informant told the FBI, according to testimony Wednesday in Brooklyn state court.

But while the late Gambino crime boss John Gotti pushed the idea, he only had the support of Carmine Persico, the leader of the Colombo crime family, according to the testimony.

“The Bosses of the Luchese, Bonanno and Genovese families rejected the idea, despite strong efforts to convince them otherwise by Gotti and Persico,” said an FBI report of the information given by informant Gregory Scarpa Sr.

Since these Righties claim to be “Christians”, what would Jesus advocate? Does he say Torture Your enemies? Or do most so-called Christians live by some other rule, other than the Golden Rule?

This is why I think the bible is a mostly crap, and if you want the Real Deal about Jesus, I would read the Essene-Gnostic Writings, and not the politically expedient Old and New Testicles, which of course the Inquisitors quoted when they were TORTURING witches, Pagans, Gays, Ergot Eaters, Mushroom chewers, Midwives, nudists, and anybody else who questioned and challenged their authority.

    Sound Familiar?

  91. tombaker Says:

108 -geez ex - you’re actually implying it takes courage to face down an idea that some guys talked about but never acted on and that the alleged “victim” wasn’t aware of it, anyway? how low are we holding the sensitivity bar, exactly?

…maybe you’re just being incredibly sarcastic (i hope), in which case it’s a pretty funny example to offer. otherwise, i’d have to say you’ve surpassed reed richards in elasticity.

  92. Exley Says:

    Tom,

While I appreciate the Fantastic Four reference, I think my point is quite clear. If you do not think it takes courage to take on the Mafia the way Rudy did in the 1980s when he was U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, you are crazy. As we see from today’s story, the Mob was none-to-thrilled with Rudy’s aggressiveness (which ultimately led to a crippling of the Mob in the northeast) and considered killing him. To take on that group, as we see, took bravery. You are likely not as familiar with Rudy’s actions and successes while SDNY U.S Attorney as I am, so I understand your inability to understand the courageous path Rudy took.

  93. missmolly Says:

#56 - bullsh*t. If you can wash your feet in public, then let’s hang the ten commandments next to them.

    Liberals HATE Christianity.

Comment by Liberals Are Filled With Hate — October 25, 2007 @ 2:14 pm

Channeling Ann Coulter? She made virtually that same “cute” point in her column this week.

Let’s level the playing field between foot baths and the Ten Commandments just in the interest of fairness, though.

    1) Washing feet (as well as hands, face, etc.) prior to prayer is an important part of a Muslim’s daily worship. Reading the Ten Commandments is not a required part of daily worship for Jews and Christians (however, it’s recommended they read them often enough to stay familiar with them).

    2) A foot bath doesn’t prosthelytize. It doesn’t endorse a particular religion. A foot bath washes feet. Nothing more. The Ten Commandments, however……command. Which DOES amount to an endorsement of a particular religion, especially when at the top of the list is “Thou shalt have no other god before Me.”

    3) There is nothing wrong with posting the Ten Commandments in public. Just not in courthouses or in other government buildings.

In short, foot baths don’t fall into the same category as the Ten Commandments. However, scripture from the Quran would. And that should follow the same rules.

  94. missmolly Says:

I would rather liberals treat Christianity with the same respect they give to radical Muslim practices.

Comment by Liberals Are Filled With Hate — October 25, 2007 @ 2:13 pm

And what would these “radical Muslim” practices be that we give so much respect to? And what, in your view, is a “radical Muslim”?

If you are talking about rituals of daily worship, dietary laws, etc., I respect the right of people of ALL faiths to worship as they wish. Freedom of religion for all. No establishment nor endorsement of any single religion by our government.

If you are talking about the practice of blowing up buildings and committing acts of terror, I have no respect for that. Nor would any reasonable person. And calling a person who would do such a thing a “radical Muslim” isn’t strong enough (and it’s an insult to Muslims). Calling him a “radical extremist crackpot with a very twisted view of Muslim ideology” would be more to the point.

  95. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper Says:

Exley, you seem to want people to jump up and down about the fact that, as a Federal prosecutor, Guilani evidently did his job. OK. He fulfilled the obligations of his position as prosecutor and worked for indictments of organized crime figures.

Now that he’s running for president, however, and draping himself in the 9-11 attack, I think there is another story which is more relevant: When the WTC was first attacked in 1993, Police and Fire departments found out that they needed an upgrade in their communications equipment so that the two agencies could more efficiently communicate during disasters. Guiliani was mayor for years and did absolutely nothing about this. In fact, he refused to do it for bugetary reasons. Many firemen around the country believe Guiliani was indirectly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of their fellow firemen.

  96. JMOHR Says:

Exley: First, you purposefully made it sound like Julie was confronting death from the MAFIA. You used a story that came out in 2007 concerning a plot that even the MAFIA bosses would not buy. In point of fact, killing a US Atty is the last thing that any criminal would want to do. It just brings on way too much heat. Indeed, do a little research and see how many US Attorneys have been murdered in the history of the United States. Second, I have been a prosecutor as well. I am sorry, the job just does not take as much bravery as you seem to think. You also used it to answer a question concerning Julies’ bravery in the face of physical pain or torture. Not quite the same.

  97. barfly Says:

No, not jump up and down..Just to realize that, contrary to ‘gulfwargrunt’s’ erroneous insinuation, Rudy has exhibited courage in the service of his country.

  101. TC-12 Says:

Question: Is waterboarding “torture” if my dog does it? Because I’m tellin’ ya, after seeing it demonstrated on CNN, my dog is JUST ACHING to waterboard the cat. I mean, he dragged an ironing board and water pail over to the cat’s bed the other day, although he wasn’t sure what to do at that point…

Oh, one last thing. If “Maryanne” from Gilligan’s Island waterboards, is that torture? Because — and I’ll come out and admit to some sort of weird S&M fetish here — picturing Maryanne waterboarding some terrorist-lookin’ dude, well come on, that’s just totally hot.

Just a little reminder. Do you remember Stalin?

Stalin was a commander in chief who used lies all the time.
Stalin abused his power interfering in other countries’ business, even invading them.
Stalin used the power of fear against those who did not agree with him.
Stalin was always speaking as if he was not a mean person.
    Stalin abused his power continuously.
Stalin would not listen to the Generals, he would do what HE wanted to do anyway.
Stalin did not respect the people’s will.
Stalin was surrounded by people as bad as he was.
Stalin promised things to his people already knowing that the only ones protected would be those who he appreciated.
Stalin, Stalin, Stalin - it can go on and on….

Ah, I forgot to mention the power of the KGB spying people’s private life. What a coincidence, it seems we have something like a KGBush here in the US, too….

Remember what happened to those people under Stalin’s dictatorship?
Is history repeating itself and nobody sees it?
