Interesting that Mediamatters, an organization who’s only mission statement is to highlight and expose right-wing media lies and distortions, is at the top of the list. When you mess with the right’s propaganda, they get very, very angry.

Congrats to Think Progress. You’re in good company.

The Ten Most Dangerous Organizations in America

    (Part Three of Three)

    By Jason Rantz

With the help of the Internet, wealthy donors, and willfully ignorant newspapers and television networks, dangerous “hate” organizations are growing powerful in the world of politics. They aim to distort facts to push their own ideological agenda – usually at the expense of ethics, integrity, and morals. Unfortunately, these groups are propagandizing millions of Americans because biased newspapers, magazines, and cable news networks are knowingly treating the information these organizations spoon feed them as fact.

Hatred knows no ideology, and there are groups like this on both sides of the political spectrum. They may not share the same dogma, but what they do have in common is their unwillingness to bend in their strictly biased view of the world.

Based on their effectiveness of disseminating propaganda, here are the ten most dangerous organizations in America:
    ————————————————————————-
The above is the opening paragraphs from the FSM’s own site …..

It reads like the imbecile is writing about FAUX Comedy Channel….

In other words, questioning the status quo is considered dangerous and must be squelched. Jefferson must be rolling in his grave.

  17. tom Says:

all colleges and universities? hilarious. must include Oral Roberts’, Jerry Falwell’s and all the other ultra conservative ‘institutions of higher learning’. and we wonder why this country is the way it is.

Actually, I think Oral Roberts’ and Jerry Falwell’s institutions are training camps and, therefore, fall into a different category.

  18. Chris L Says:

How do you go to the doctor, or dentist, or hire a lawyer or accountant, when you believe that Universities and Colleges are dangerous organizations?

  19. Fan of Man Says:

  25. MarkD Says:

They aim to distort facts to push their own ideological agenda – usually at the expense of ethics, integrity, and morals.

You know, if these clowns projected any more they’d be PowerPoint presentations …

  26. Rheinhard Says:

    Um, hang on a minute…

Family Research Council? Isn’t this the right-wing conservative christian group run by James Dobson? Has the conservative FSM gotten its dangerosity lists mixed up? Why are they trying to alienate the most Jesusy of the Jesus lovin’ base?

League of the South sounds like another “The Confederacy shoulda won” kinda groups which are always tinged with a soupcon of anti-black racism, but I’m surprised something so garden-variety would merit being on FSM’s top 10 list as well, certainly that it’s more dangerous than CODE PINK!

This list just seems to be generated by a random “group we don’t like” generator that had its inputs mixed up.

  27. Leftside Annie Says:

    Its too funny.

How did we let these cretins multiply so far out of control.

We need to start executing the stupid.

  35. ralph the wonder llama Says:

I’m thinking they threw FRC in there in a pathetic attempt to prove that the list was NOT a right-wing tantrum memo.

“No, we’re not biased! See? We included the Family Research Council! That proves that we’re Fair and Balanced®!”

  36. MeYeZone Says:

These morons made their list based on an organization’s “unwillingness to bend in their strictly biased view of the world.”

FSM is correct. Falwell’s Liberty University and Pat Robertson’s Regent University are far greater dangers to this country than ThinkProgress could ever hope to be.

Good point. One might reasonably infer that the “Family Security Matters” believes that a “willingness to bend” in an open-minded view of the world is a virtue to be embraced. In other words, they value flexibility in outlook. Tolerance of others’ opinions…

Oops. So much for that inference.

But TP is part of CAP, which is fifth on the list. So if CAP wasn’t sponsoring TP, maybe they would have ranked only sixth or seventh.

  47. mongo Says:

    That’s an interesting list.

Mao recognized that universities and colleges were dangerous to his agenda as well; hence the need to kick college graduates out of any positions of power and elevate the uneducated peasantry during the Great Leap Forward.

    Exactly, Verbal.

Plus Daily Kos didn’t even make the top ten! And to hear O’Lielly tell it, there’s no greater threat to democracy and apple pie than Daily Kos. So live it up, TPers! You’ve earned it!

  52. Guido OBGYN Lover Says:

I consider myself a response group to a hate group headed by FOX and the Republican party.

  56. VerbalKint Says:

So let’s see….I am a regular troll hunter at TP, I belong to MoveOn, and I work at a University. Yup, I just hit a trifecta.

Do I get extra credit for belonging to the Union of Concerned Scientists?

  57. Dumb_Fox Says:

I’m going to go taunt those losers at DailyKos. Couldn’t even cut the top-10…

  58. MCMetal Says:

    Ummm , Family Security Matters

Care to explain how Think Progress and/or anyone else named on your ridiculous “list” has turned out to be more dangerous than yourselves and the rest of the religious right ?

After all : you’re the chuckleheads responsible for (s)electing and re-(s)electing the worst president in US history …..And you believe you’re qualified to talk about who is and isn’t “dangerous” ?

    Buy a mirror……….

  59. ShamRockNRoll Says:

I love how the right wing labels ALL Universities and Colleges as the second most dangerous organizations in America. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…

As a current college student I am proud to know that my intellectual curiosity threatens those poor, frightened lemmings. :)

LOL… I really can’t get over it. They are basically stating that if you are educated you are a “threat to America”. Therefore, they state that everyone on the right is uneducated, thus “patriotic”.

    haha, it’s too much!!!

  60. dim wit Says:

The League of the South is a Southern nationalist organization whose ultimate goal is “a free and independent Southern republic.” The group defines the Southern United States as the states that made up the former Confederacy, plus Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky, and Maryland. While political independence ranks highly among the group’s goals, it is also a religious and social movement, advocating a return to a more traditional, conservative Christian-oriented Southern culture.

How did these not-jubs make the list? It sounds like kind of people Family Secty Matters would emulate.

  61. texaslady Says:

Isn’t it amazing that keeping the public informed has now become a threat. Thank you for being one of the few that have America’s best interest at heart.

  62. ShamRockNRoll Says:

Well… I, as a member of the highly dangerous group “Universities and Colleges” must go to “class” now… Really though we will be discussing how to hate America, of course. LOL

  63. shoeless Says:

LOL… I really can’t get over it. They are basically stating that if you are educated you are a “threat to America”. Therefore, they state that everyone on the right is uneducated, thus “patriotic”.

I like the *other* FSM better…
The Flying Spaghetti Monster is funnier, too, if only slightly.

  65. VerbalKint Says:

Family Research Council and League of the South must not be hateful enough for FSM to keep in the fold. Gotta try harder, guys! Maybe a few lynchings will get League of the South off the list. I’m not sure what FRC needs to do. Maybe they haven’t fulfilled their Pioneers for Bush quota.

  66. tom Says:

    teletubbies is 11th

Technically, teletubbies isn’t an “institution. It’s just a collection of stuffed animals. You know . . . kinda like Darth Cheney.

  67. dim wit Says:

The Family Research Council (FRC) is a Christian right non-profit think tank and lobbying organization. It was formed in the United States by James Dobson in 1981 and incorporated in 1983. The group was designed to be a lobbying force for conservative legislation on Capitol Hill. In the late 1980s the group officially became a division of Dobson’s main organization Focus on the Family, but in 1992 IRS concerns about the group’s lobbying led to an administrative separation. Its function is to promote what it considers to be traditional family values. The current president is Tony Perkins.

The Family Research Council has been publicly involved in promoting socially conservative views on many issues, including divorce, homosexuality, and abortion. The Church Report ranks FRC first in the category of Christian political organizations.

These people seem like absolute neocon kooks as well.

What the hell are the criteria it takes to make this list?

  68. Candyce Says:

I cannot express my pride adequately. Congratulations to TP and all my posting mates.

  69. JustJohn Says:

    ******************* CONGRATS!!!! TP ********************

My guess is that they’re not dangerous enough because they haven’t set up their own web site yet.

  78. missmolly Says:

And how do they justify calling the ACLU a hate organization? The only objective the ACLU has is to protect the civil rights of Americans. All Americans. Whether it’s tree-hugging environmentalists or the KKK.

They would even fight for the right of Family Security Matters to publish lists like this one.

    So where’s the hate?

  79. lefty Says:

    #2 - Universities and colleges

    So they’re pro-moron?

  80. Bad Eye Says:

Anybody notice this disclaimer at the bottom of the list?

We are most likely on the FBI watch list as subversive(I’m sooooo proud).

FSM has a sort of Frank Burns view of the world. Frank once said “I don’t mind individuality, as long as we’re all doing it together.” In other words, you have the freedom to do, say, and think what we want you to.

  85. gummitch Says:

Where are the trolls? Surely their contributions here must be acknowledged by this prestigious organization. Shameful.

  86. Wolf359 Says:

Oh Man! This is just too funny. There are at least 5 groups on this list that I claim membership in or comment on. These people are really losing it.

  87. Uncle Ho Says:

ooops- forgot to include that I’m also a proud to be an official “card-carrying member of the ACLU.

And a member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War

    Ain’t I dangerous? heh,heh

  88. Wolf359 Says:

Hey, I wonder where Foxattacks wound up? Or are they too new for them to notice.

  89. shoeless Says:

  96. ralph the wonder llama Says:

gummitch is right — here we are congratulating ourselves for this prestigious achievement, and we’re forgetting one very important element in TP’s success as a threat to America — our beloved trolls.

Without them, these threads would probably never generate the harsh language and brutal rhetoric that the trolls sinpire with their idiocy, and tighty righties could never take our posts out of context and use them to brand TP as a “hate site”.

So how about a round of applause for the trolls? This is their award too!

(sigh) I do get tired of explaining this over and over, but, since you’re the only troll who showed up to endorse the FSM list, and it’s a special day for you too, I’ll go over it one more time:

YOU are a “24%er” because you still support President Bush. You’re one of the 24% who do.

By the same logic, an “11%er” of which you speak would have to be one who supports the Congress, right? Are you with me so far?

Now, we can look at this two ways — one is that the horrible approval rating that you cite (and it is only the very lowest out there — most are above the President’s numbers) applies to Congress as a whole; that is, to BOTH parties in Congress. And since Congressional Republicans consistently poll more poorly than Democrats, you’re already on logically shaky ground.

The second way to look at this is that ALMOST NO ONE HERE APPROVES OF THE JOB CONGRESS IS DOING. Since an “11%er” is, by definition, one who approves of the job Congress is doing, this fact makes your casual slur even more absurd than most of your posts.

But thanks for doing your part to get TP into the Top Ten!

At a media dinner Wednesday, President Bush joked about how no weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq, eliciting laughter from many of the journalists in attendance. We get a reaction from a father and twin brother of a soldier killed in Iraq and we speak with The Nation’s David Corn who attended the dinner. [includes rush transcript]
    ——————————————————————————–
While millions of people marked the first anniversary of the invasion of Iraq this week by protesting against war on Saturday, President Bush marked the event in a different way: joking about how no weapons of mass destruction were found.

At a black-tie dinner for Radio and Television Correspondents’ Association on Wednesday, Bush poked fun at himself and his administration for among other things not finding weapons in Iraq.

At one point Bush showed a photo of himself looking for something out a window in the Oval Office. He said: “Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere.”

After a few more slides, there was a shot of Bush looking under furniture in the Oval Office. Bush said “Nope. No weapons over there.” Then another picture of Bush searching in his office. He said “Maybe under here.”

According to the Nation’s David Corn many of the journalists at the dinner laughed throughout the skit.

But the Daily News is reporting that the families of soldiers killed in Iraq are not laughing.

Colin Powell, Feb. 24, 2001, Cairo, Egypt:

We had a good discussion, the Foreign Minister and I and the President and I, had a good discussion about the nature of the sanctions — the fact that the sanctions exist — not for the purpose of hurting the Iraqi people, but for the purpose of keeping in check Saddam Hussein’s ambitions toward developing weapons of mass destruction. We should constantly be reviewing our policies, constantly be looking at those sanctions to make sure that they are directed toward that purpose. That purpose is every bit as important now as it was ten years ago when we began it. And frankly they have worked. He has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power
