Thousands protest Iraq war.

By Faiz Shakir on Oct 28th, 2007 at 12:24 pm

Thousands protest Iraq war.

“Thousands of people called for a swift end to the war in Iraq as they marched through downtown [San Francisco] on Saturday, chanting and carrying signs that read: ‘Wall Street Gets Rich, Iraqis and GIs Die’ or ‘Drop Tuition Not Bombs.’”

Vince Robbins, 51, of Mount Holly, N.J., said there needed to be more rallies and more outrage. “Where’s the outcry? Where’s the horror that almost 4,000 Americans have died in a foreign country that we invaded?” Robbins said. “I’m almost as angry at the American people as I am the president. I think Americans have become apathetic and placid about the whole thing.”

An anti-war protest in San Francisco????!!!!

    STOP the presses!!!

What a scoop! There are never left-wing protests in San Francisco!

  2. Jay Randal says:

Press as usual did not cover this event very much. Very sad thing because the Iraq Fiasco Occupation will not end until Americans get off their duffs and demand that it ends.

Exley blindly supporting the President??? This can’t be! Only a complete moron would support an administration that tortures, takes away your rights, adds trillions to the debt and acts like the world’s #1 terrorist! Wow! I’m amazed!

  5. Veritas says:

It’s about time the protest began about the rape of this country by corporate war profiteers! Until Congress gets the message loud and clear that we want this heinous, illegal war stopped NOW, there needs to be protests like this everywhere and everyday/week!

The people need to take back their country from the hands of these bunglers.

  6. Veritas says:

Exley, the troll, lives under a rock and needs to be totally ignored. He, obviously, is braindead in his unflagging, sycophantic, and lockstep support of a very twisted leader.

  7. Jay Randal says:

Bush lovers are unable to realize that Dubya is pure 100% evil. They believe he is a terrific leader, just like some Germans thought of Hitler.

Exlax-ly has been a useless troll here for several years. He just loves to prove he’s dumber than everyone else. He can’t seem to get enough of being called facist, stupid, idiotic, moronic, etc. He loves this abuse. He must have some real phu(ked up parent(s) uh?

America is a nation of sheep. Like Vince Robbins, I wonder what it will take for people to wake up, put down their cell phones, turn off the football game, and realize that Bush’s War & Occupation has been disastrous for our military, our economy, our national prestige, and our moral standing in the world.

What will it take? Where is the outrage?

  10. Zooey says:

Uncle Ho is at one of the protests this weekend. Yay, Uncle Ho!

  11. Jay Randal says:

Mitch > a lot of Americans are unfortunately exhausted from working several jobs to survive, so too tired to protest, but we all are going to have to take to the streets soon to end it since Congress will not do it.

Americans should be ashamed of themselves.

    Truly ashamed!

I’ve been to several of the large protest marches in Los Angeles – and what irritates the crap out of me is that the rightwing media ALWAYS severely underreports the number of protesters — either that or they ignore the protests completely.

The American media has become America’s Pravda: We report what the government *tells* us to report.

there were 30,000 in chicago — and here
are just a few of the 75 photos, and ten
video clips i captured of the event. truly
inspirational, under a clearing, and warming
“city of big shoulders” october sky
    . . .

    do take a look.

i may do a “nightly nolo” video
segment on all of this, soon. . .

but these stills capture the fun, energy,
    creativity and generally spiritually-
uplifting tone of the 30,000 here. . .

******We Americans for the most part have been dumbed down & uninformed from watching some worthless Tv show.Remember the Govt. started outsourcing our jobs(laid us off) & told us it would be good for us.Well if we couldn’t muster any outrage then don’t expect americans to show outrage at an illegal war where many don’t have a relation serving.
*** In short Americans have become selfish & powerless. It’s no longer a Govt by the people but more like a Govt by Corporations, what a shame.

And just like Hitler’s supporters, Bush supporters are just as complicit for enabling and even encouraging the destruction of the country that existed before he got into office. Our soldiers have to follow orders, but these trolls are guilty as sin.

  17. Shayne says:

Uncle Ho was in Chicago yesterday. It must have been a pretty big turnout because they even had the street sign warnings on like they do for Bears games telling you how to avoid traffic.

That must be because they, themselves, are pure, 100% evil.

Who among us is comfortable saying such a thing is an absolute fact?

    I am.

  21. espo says:

    actually there were protests in:

    boston
    chicago
    jonesborough
    LA
    N. Orleans
    NY
    Orlando
    Philadelphia
    Salt Lake City
    San Francisco
    Seattle.

this was planned for awhile and NO ONE picked up on it, nothing on the ‘liberal media,’ even TP and the ‘big’ blogs missed it BEFORE hand.

    sad.

    here is the website

  22. boreas says:

“Where’s the outcry? Where’s the horror that almost 4,000 Americans have died in a foreign country that we invaded?” Robbins said.

    Where’s the…… COVERAGE??!!

During the Vietnam War the MSMs covered the Hell outa all the protests against our involvement in SE Asia. It was a huge factor in raising general awareness of opposition to the war and served as a forum for the airing of views from both sides of the issues. As such it was a major factor in reversing public sentiment from a largely pro-war position to an anti-war one.

Now the media is basically running interference for the Bushies. They’re afraid that if they don’t they’ll lose their precious “access”.

Even without the help of the media, however, public opposition to the war is running around 70%. Imagine where it would be if the MSMs did their damn job! 80%? 100%?

That being said, how much effect, do you suppose, that level of opposition would have on Administration “policy”? 10%? 0%?

  27. texaslady says:

I am furious with the msm, I heard less than 3 sentences, on 3 different statations covering the anti-war protesters parades ! Still covering old info on the fires, lots of Sunday stuff, but no pictures ? Doubt it, CNN is asking for pictures of the fire I bet they are getting pictures of the protests but are not airing it.

The powers that be are using the “you are lowering the moral of the troops if you air the protests.” Do they really think the troops aren’t hearing this from their e-mail contacts at home?

I hope more and more people are going to demand more coverage for a military withdrawal.

  28. texaslady says:

For a fact a Baptist church in Atlanta is still singing the praises of Bush and the koolaide drinkers are lapping it up. What about Bush are they praising ? He definitely is not a Christian, guess it has to be the anti-everything, keep the people dumb attitude. After all Churches don’t want independent thinkers.

  29. texaslady says:

Michael Moores website is putting the numbers at 100,000 across a dozen cities, biggest turnout seems to be New York. Guess we are lucky if it weren’t the for the internet we wouldn’t even know of any. For shame msm !

Excuse me, but are you a dumbass?

Oh you are living in Montgomery Alabama that explains everything.

Super Bowl kickoff bash ‘a good party’
Event planners expected upwards of 8,000 fans at the afternoon party set to run until 10 p.m. near Loop 101 and Glendale Avenue. The party marked the 100-day countdown until the big game Feb. 3 at nearby University of Phoenix Stadium.
Halmrast, a Cardinals season ticket holder, said he is hoping to snatch some Super Bowl tickets soon, which range in price from $2,600 to $75,000 on Web sites like StubHub.com.

Poor, tired Americans, what will we do?

The media is complicit in this corrupt and criminal administration’s efforts to create a authoritarian police state here at home and a global hegemony abroad. They, too, must be held accountable.

I marched in New York city in the pouring rain. The corporate media did not show up.

The media is against us, folks. We’ll have to do this without them.

  43. texaslady says:

Strange how conservatives see the war, patriotic to let others do the killing and being killed. Why not avail yourselves to what the soldiers on the ground are saying? Read the Washington Post article from soldiers in Bagdad instead of the “phoney” soldiers like William Kristol and George Bush.

But no, conservatives don’t dare read anything that disagrees with their mindset. They might learn something.

  44. texaslady says:

Washington Post 10/27/07 comment Soldiers with the 1st Battalion 18th Infantry Regiment, “Iraq is not a place where one more soldier should die.” So just who are the patriotic, those sitting here in their comfy chairs or soldiers after 14 months of unrelenting combat?
So easy to talk the talk instead of walking the walk.

  45. Peter C says:

The march in NYC was neither small nor poorly attended, despite the rain. Here’s a video:

    http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/28129

Our march was easily 100 times the size of anything staged by the “minute men”. If the media were truly unbiased, there would have been reporting of it.

The media is against us; turn it off.

  46. texaslady says:

Michael – Your comment is a true conservative comment, “I know everything I want to know so therefore there is nothing I need to learn.”
A wise person realizes they don’t have all the answers and are always searching.
