Iraqi government drafts bill lifting contractor immunity.

Following reports that the State Department had granted immunity to disgraced Blackwater security guards, the Iraqi cabinet on Tuesday “approved draft legislation lifting immunity for foreign private security companies, sending the measure to Parliament.” However, an “Iraqi government spokesman suggested that the new law may not cover Blackwater guards if they were defined by the State Department as an extension of the multinational forces in Iraq, rather than private security guards.”

    Hrm…

If they’re considered an extension of our forces now, does that mean we can draft them up on war crimes?

  2. Leftside Annie says:

    Dear Iraqi Puppet Goverment:

    Good luck with that.

    Sincerely,

    Leftside Annie

A multinational force? I thought they were just hired to protect dignitaries. Somebody better get her story straight. Besides, it’s their country, they can do what they want. If they want to arrest Blackwater, what is the US going to do? Bomb them?

  7. Zimzone says:

#6, hil_1, Neoturds don’t need drugs; they were born batshit crazy!

  8. espo says:

and miraculously they will come to what ever conclusion bu$h co. tells them to.

just a show…. (iraq to world: “see…. we ARE sovereign.”)

move along, nothing to see here….

  9. upside99 says:

The Iraqi is as stable and “free” as the puppet governements were when I was in Vietnam. Good Luck with that one! And if you push it too hard, Darth still has his shotgun loaded.

In fact, if they ever did go to trial, all the Blackwater thugs would be carrying their weapons in the courtroom with them.

  10. Vet says:

The Iraqi Parliament reminds me a lot of the US Congress. They posture a lot, but never really stand up to Boy George.

  11. overlap says:

Why dont they draft a bill lifting world suffering and draft a bill that makes eveybody happy…. as long as theyre passing pipe dream legislation.

Seriously, I’m appaled how under the ruse of Liberation, freedom , democracy, Americans can now kill Iraqis at will….

But wait… they have their purple fingers now – that makes it OK

  12. PoliticalOrphan says:

#7, tomazulob – Hate to be the one to say it, but that’s exactly what they’ll do. Anyone who doesn’t fall in line with our supreme empire and just shut up and do what they’re told will feel the wrath of our increasingly busy bomber pilots. And that includes entire countries.

WTF??? Is he trying to give the State Department a way out of this?

It’s good to see the Iraqi government showing independence. It shows that freedom and democracy are growing by the day in a country once dominated by a Dictator. Maybe that will stop some of the talk that it is an illigitimate government just doing what the U.S. tells them to do.
    Comment by TCDon

The problem is, stinky troll don, that our government is not going to let them get away with this. If our government respected the sovereignty of the Iraqi Government, Blackwater would not be in Iraq now. The Iraqi government told Blackwater to leave and our government told them to stick it in their ear. The day the US stops interfering with what the Iraqi government wants to do and the day that the Iraqi government starts doing what its citizens want it to do is the day I will call the Iraqi government legitimate. Until that time, they are nothing more than pawns of the US Government who seems to think they own Iraq.

Don’t worry – if signing statements work to circumvent the US leglislature, I’m sure that The Chimperor will listen intently and obey the Iraqui leglislature……..

Of course they are, Maliki is still Bush’s poodle. On the other hand, if the State Department declares the Blackwater people as an extension of the multinational forces in Iraq, rather than private security guards, then they have been lying to us all along and I suspect that Congress will be a little miffed that Bush is running his own private army in Iraq, not just providing security for it’s diplomats.

Chimpy deliberately and blatantly ignores the laws of his own country, as well as international law. What makes you think your law is even going to slow him down?

  19. ForTruth says:

Blackwater is part of whatever entity that will get them out of trouble, or not a part of any entity. Kinda like the office of VP.

  20. ForTruth says:

As long as the debate about Blackwater’s immunity can drag on for another year or so, it don’t matter.
