Cheney repeatedly rejected proposals ‘to help the poor, sick.’

In his new book, President Bush’s controversial former speechwriter Michael Gerson sharply criticizes the office of Vice President Cheney and his misplaced priorities:

cheneywv.jpg For Michael Gerson, the pattern became discouragingly familiar. A proposal to help the poor or sick would be presented at a White House meeting, but Vice President Cheney’s office or the budget team or some other skeptical officials would shoot it down. Too expensive. Wrong priority. [...]

Gerson is more critical of Cheney’s office, former defense secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and two Texas Republicans who served as House majority leaders, Tom DeLay and Richard K. Armey.

Gerson writes that he urged Bush to fire Rumsfeld after the 2004 election, but that Cheney opposed the move. He recounts meetings in which Cheney’s office tried to kill proposals to increase training of death-row defense lawyers, transition assistance for prisoners and aid for Hurricane Katrina victims.

Happy Halloweenie, Dickster. You've been pulling tricks on all of America for way, way too many years. It's time to put him & his shotgun away for a long time.

  13. JMOHR Says:

Cheney is an animal as are the rest of the Republican elite. They believe that the meek will truly inherit the earth, in the face.

What do you expect from a political philosophy that emphasizes that those who succeed are blessed by God. Those who fail are morally inferior and deserve whatever fate comes to them. It is a philosophy that makes success more important than any other moral consideration To fail is to literally die. Thus we see so much corruption in the political party and corporate elites because they know that their philosophy creates a zero sum game. The disparaging of the poor becomes a defensive mechanism to justify their own greed and ruthlessness.

  15. missmolly Says:

Cheney has had only one objective, and that has been to increase the power of the executive branch. He has been singly focused on this even before he was elected.

Poor people do nothing to help him achieve his objective (the poor people in the Republican base can be scared into submission and don't have to be bought). Sick people do nothing to help him achieve his objective. Neither do prisoners and death row inmates. Neither do children (unless they are still in the embryonic or fetal stages).

It's not surprising that Cheney would label anyone or anything not helpful to his amassing more power as "the wrong priority."

This man is clearly a cold hearted sorry excuse for a human being. He is rich and doesn't care if people less fortunate than him starve or if children go hungry. But his love by the religious right of the Republican party. They know dispite the fact that he hates poor and sick people, he has a special place in heaven waiting for him, NOT.

I agree with Denise Kucinich on this one, IMPEACH that Azzhole and get it over with. It's one thing to be conservative and it's another to just be a carbon copy of HITLER. I can't wait until that day comes when he leaves office and returns to pulling the wings of butterfly or whatever it is that this idiot does to amuse his evil ego. 47. Madame Defarge Says:

Marvin Olasky, was author of the phrase, Compassionate Conservatism. The goal was to eliminate all social services and entitlements provided by the government, including SS and Medicare.

Lets say a 75 year old and needed an operation. Ideally they would raise the money from their church. It was never explained what would happen if they didn't go to church.

The reason Bush is spending money like a drunken sailor, except for children's health care, is that they want to bankrupt the treasury so there will be little or no money left for social programs.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compassionate_conservatism

Of course the MSM didn't really delve deeply into this in 2000. "Compassionate Conservatism" sounded like a positive thing, and without knowing what they were talking about, they labled it as such.

Wonder if Cheney is going to leave his coffin tonight and fly around D.C looking for blood.

Has Gerson ever spoken of trying to persuade anyone in the Oval Office to think again or is it forbidden to even question Bush?Cheney?

TP really needs to fix their system to prevent this from happening!
