Bush: ‘war on terror’ critics are ‘disingenuous or naive.’

Today in his speech at the Heritage Foundation, President Bush attacked critics of the term “war on terror,” saying that “people who deny we are at war are either being disingenuous or naive.” He added, “We are at war — and we cannot win this war by wishing it away or pretending it does not exist.” Watch it:

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2007/11/bushgwotheritage.320.240.flv]

Yet in September, Bush’s own Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen banned the phrase “Global War on Terror” from “any future correspondence.” In 2004, Bush himself admitted:

We actually misnamed the war on terror, it ought to be the struggle against ideological extremists who do not believe in free societies who happen to use terror as a weapon to try to shake the conscience of the free world.

From the September 2000 Idaho Observer:

RAND analyst admits Defense Secretary fits profile of domestic terrorist?

“Astute observation” begs question: “Who are the real terrorists?”

The Department of Defense’s definition of terrorism is:

“The calculated use of violence or the threat of violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or try to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious or ideological.”

“All acts of terrorism are politically motivated,”

“Why would Cohen, who has access to all chemical/biological weapons intelligence data, including that disseminated by RAND, scare the public with the imminence of a chemical/biological threat? Is he not mirroring the intent of ‘terrorists’ to leave a specific impression on a gullible public,” asked Don Harkins of The Idaho Observer.

Chalk gave a thoughtful and lengthy answer to Harkins’ question. Chalk explained that Cohen’s public announcement was undoubtedly prompted by lobbyists who used the Clinton cabinet member as political leverage to fund their anti-terrorism programs and research.

“Earlier today Dr. Hoffman stated that ‘all terrorist acts are politically motivated.’ What you just described to me is that Cohen’s threat of imminent chemical or biological attack was politically motivated. How, then, is Defense Secretary Cohen’s behavior different from what you guys have described as that of a domestic terrorist?” Harkins asked.

With a smile that seemed to say, “touchet,” Chalk said, “Your observation is very astute.”

Neo-Con Madmen Strike Again – The London Fear Frenzy

Well before Wednesday the administration was aware of Britain’s plans to launch a raid against a possible terror plot.

With the knowledge of a terror-scare coming soon, all day Wednesday the entire Neo-Conservative Republican political apparatus had been busy assailing their political enemy’s supposed unwillingness to fight terrorism. On Thursday the Neo-Con assault intensified and finally peaked when news of the British scheme was made public. Then, in the most vile and unbecoming manner possible, Republicans accused Democrats of having forgotten the attacks of 9/11. Some Republicans were even gleeful enough to remind reporters that with the anniversary of 9/11 fast approaching their attack on Democrats, coupled with the London conspiracy would do wonders for their lagging poll numbers:

“Weeks before September 11th, this is going to play big,” one White House official said.

For Karl Rove, terror is THE GAME.

The timing of the release of this information was not coincidental. Let’s take a look at how many other circumstances coincided with this fake terror scare…

Lieberman was not the Democratic Party candidate – he was quite literally the Israeli candidate.

AIPAC lost to Lamont, cracking the door open for an anti-AIPAC rebellion at the polls.

    Less than 36 hours later…

“TERROR IN THE SKIES” was the headline on all news programming in the United States – and CNN would have you believe that the entire world changed that day (again).

The world didn’t change – but CNN’s fear-mongering role in it on behalf of Israel has been clearly exposed.

All of the President’s NeoCons have made it known since Lieberman’s loss to Lamont, just how important Lieberman has been to their agenda – the Zionist Agenda.

They knew that Lieberman would lose, and Rove planned a full frontal attack for the aftermath – which by necessity always leads with a terror scare. Rove even called Lieberman directly to offer his help.

As part of the game – a CNN talking head asks the question…

“Lamont is the Al Qaeda Candidate???”

KARL ROVE WROTE THAT TALKING POINT.

    CNN READ IT ON AIR.

If Cheney hadn’t leaked the CIA covert agent working in Iran things might be different. Not one Media Station has said a word about the Nukes the US gave Israel. At lease if Iran does have to defend themselves by attacking Israel with their limited weapons capability , Israel will have Nukes to bomb Iran.

We don’t really need “progressives”. One may even say we need “old fashioned conservatives”. We need to elect a new generation of leaders who are students, and followers, of the Constitution. The gang we have now, on both sides of the aisle, are enemies of the Constitution and the American people.

unfortunately, the Israeli government is made up of Israeli people, the very worst, warmongering ones. Many Israeli citizens are just as dismayed about their leaders’ bloodlust as we are about ours, but they, like we, are in the hold of fear and fascism, and will need to take decisive action to change things.

House Passes Thought Crimes Bill and No One Notices?

I try to stay on top of what Congress is doing but this one escaped me. And, since I’m not seeing much about it in the news or on blogs, I’m not the only one.

On the same day last week that the House passed the Ammonium Nitrate bill, it also passed HR 1955, titled the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007. The vote on this bill was 404 to 6. Meaning even progressive Democrats voted for it.

This is a thought-crimes bill, aimed at preventing domestic terrorism by judging the thoughts, including those expressed on the Internet, of American citizens.”

Plunger, you post alot of information about Israelis being involved in 911 and other terror attacks, among other ideas. I am curious what your bottom line here is though. I don’t know whether to think you are simply antisemitic or not. If not, WHY would Israel be involved in such truly horrendous events? This is a serious question, as I have my own concerns about the U.S. unconditional support of Israel. I also have to say that your strong statements make me somewhat apprehensive, because you don’t seem to recognize the difference between the Israeli government and the Israeli people.

    Comment by impeachcheneythenbush — November 1, 2007 @ 4:29 pm

I have NEVER written an unkind word about the “Israeli People” or those of the Jewish Faith.

For you to introduce the concept of “anti-Semitism” in the phrasing of your question speaks to the conditioning which you (and all of us) have received via the media – and our (s)elected officials.

The fact that Israel’s Mossad was directly and operationally involved in 9/11is just as undeniable as was Dick Cheney’s operational role. Both Mossad and Cheney were caught red-handed – in the act on 9/11. The story of the “Dancing Israelis” was written worldwide – including Israel. Norm Mineta testified under oath that he personally witnessed Cheney command a subordinate to allow the approaching “aircraft” to strike the Pentagon unimpeded – and it did.

The number of Israeli Nationals killed inside the towers of the World Trade Center on 9/11 was precisely ZERO – thanks in no small part to the Odigo paging system available only to Israelis – which provided a warning to stay away from the WTC over an hour before the first plane struck.

Combine this with Silverstein’s video blunder admitting to ordering that building 7 be “pulled” – only to fall straight down into its own foot little more than an hour later – despite having never been struck by an airplane – and any thinking, breathing, logical human being is left to explain the inexplicable, unless of course you simply accept that Israel’s Likud and the GHW Bush cabal conspired to perpetrate 9/11 for their own reasons – none of which benefit US.

Yes, the conspiracy really is that huge. Ask David Rockefeller.

  75. hterrya says:

Back on the topic (for a change)!

When the current corrupt, crooked, lying president talks about “disingenuous,” he KNOWS what he is talking about. All of his actions, talking points, vetoes, signing statements, cries of “war” on terror, and his LIES about torture and violating civil liberties are disingenuous!

  76. pete says:

    Plunger,

I think that most of the objections, to your lengthy posts, are due to just that. Length. A brief comment and a link will generally suffice. Face it, if someone is curious enough to read a long passage, they are probably willing to follow a link. It might help to save Israeli conspiracies for more topical threads as well.

Personally, I’m not sold on the “Israel=cause, everything bad=effect” argument. There’s plenty of blame for everyone. I think it’s American/European policy (which created Israel amongst other questionable actions) that can be blamed. Israel (A European colony in the Mideast.) strikes me as more of a symptom than a cause.

I do agree that Israel has been a millstone around the West’s neck since it’s creation. But, you don’t occupy hostile territory, for 60 years, without pissing people off.

  77. pete says:

    On Topic.

Bush isn’t naive and disingenuous. He’s stupid, insane, and a pathological liar. I doubt that any single person has proven as disastrous, to our Nation, as Bush. Let us hope it doesn’t take a civil war to undue, or at least lessen, the damage.

I think it’s safe to say that no one, in the blogoshere, is patiently waiting for anything. Angry people usually exhibit a lack of patience. I merely suggest that there are issues, that deserve our attention, that have little or nothing to do with Israel. It has been said that, “it’s hard to sell fire extinguishers during a flood”. It seems to me that little can be accomplished by introducing topics that don’t directly relate to the subject at hand.

Let us allow these nice people, and trolls, to keep there focus on the “topic of the day”.

  83. Gregor Samsa says:

I find the notion that no Jewish person died in the 9/11 attacks (because of some sort of “early Jewish warning system”) both ignorant and offensive. It is also easily proven false, if one bothers to check.

Here is a link to an article in the Jerusalem Post about the memorial service held in Jerusalem to commemorate the Israeli citizens who died that day. They were either on the planes or in the towers.

Here is another link to a press release by the Department of State with plenty of names and links with more information on the people of Jewish faith who died as a result of the attacks (about 50 of the Cantor Fitzgerald employees who died that day had Jewish memorial services).

Then there is also the entry in the wikipedia with even more information and links regarding the belief that no Israeli citizen (or no Jewish person, depending on the version one hears) died on that day.

As a matter of fact, an estimated 400 people of Jewish faith died at the WTC. Of course, conspiracy theorists will simply dismiss all this information as being part of the “Zionist conspiracy”.

If you find the troll’s troll dung “both ignorant and offensive,” PLEASE report the troll by clicking on the “Report Abuse” link.

Thanks. The amount of troll dung on the TP threads is getting to the point it was BEFORE TP instituted its new registration program.

Some of you may not think the troll in question is actually a “troll.” However, BECAUSE he has IGNORED repeated requests to par down his posts so that the thread is not littered with LOOOONG repetitive posts, identifies him as a troll, not a legitimate progressive poster.

Reporting abuse is the way to handle trolls, I believe.

plunger, Left Gatekeepers, NeoCons, and Coincidence Theorists are all following the Bush Administrations lies about 9/11. If one has not figured it out by now who was involved, they never will.

in my opinion Alex Jones has given the 9/11 Truth Movement a bad name. He constantly harps on NWO, evil ACLU, Feminists, Environmentalists, and The 60s. This isolates Progressives from seeking 9/11 anomalies. People like Bill Maher then equate 9/11 Truth to a bunch of camouflaged militia men, which it is not. There are literally hundreds of scientists, Lawyers, military, etc. that think it was more than 19 Arabs with box Cutters being directed by a guy from a cave.

How does this relate to the “war on terror”? Everything. It is THE Casus belli.

What is this freedom you speak of… the freedom to die? The freedom to starve? The freedom to be betrayed/bombed/uninformed/endoctrinated? The freedom to be enslaved? The freedom to be ANNIHILATED because some ‘freed’ Western capitalist-’thinker’ is pathetically addicted to selling a little more for pure personal gain?!?
