After visiting a hunting lodge that hangs the confederate flag, a Cheney spokesperson claimed, “no one in our office was aware there was such a flag.” But when asked about Cheney’s opinion on the flag being hung, the spokesperson hedged. “Bottom line, he didn’t see the flag,” she said. Asked whether the vice president had views in general on the appropriateness of displaying the Confederate battle flag, she said, “I haven’t had a chance to talk with him about that.”
Perhaps Cheney was nodding (meditating) off.
November 1st, 2007 at 12:36 pmNew GOP sex scandal on deck, involving a Washington State Lawmaker.
November 1st, 2007 at 12:39 pmThat was might white of ol’ Shooter!
November 1st, 2007 at 12:40 pmNo where is there a backup to the statement that Cheney refused to condemn the Confederate Flag.
November 1st, 2007 at 12:40 pmPerhaps Cheney was nodding (meditating) off.

Good one texaslady.
November 1st, 2007 at 12:41 pmAnother completely misleading headline from TP. How low can you go?
Comment by TCDon — November 1, 2007 @ 12:36 pm
If you’re unhappy with the headlines here perhaps you should find a site that suits your tastes better. This site isn’t really aimed at pleasing people like you, that’s why it’s called “Think Progress” instead of “Think Like a Republican, Rarely” get it?
November 1st, 2007 at 12:43 pmFor Truth, the news is when there isn’t a Republican sex scandal on deck. I suspect we have a long wait for that day.
November 1st, 2007 at 12:44 pmDid Darth Vader have a flag?
TCDonkeyass has one, it looks like a diaper.

November 1st, 2007 at 12:45 pmOh, the confederate flag. One of my favorite things about this great nation.
This time, the flag thing is being hyped a bit too much. It appears it was just tacked to the outside of some door. Not waiving on a 20 foot flagpole above the Old Glory.
Not that I’m condoning the flying of the Confederate colors . . . I’ve lived in the South for 25 of my 40 or so years. I’ve never really understood all the hub-bub about that flag. Heritage, they’ve always said. But, to me, an outsider forever apparently, it seems just to be a substitute used by people to rub other people’s noses in ideas which are not polite to speak about publicly.
Last I checked, the South did lose the Civil War. It was a symbol of the Confederacy. Why isn’t it viewed as an act of treason to fly it now? And why can’t the Vice President of the United States in the year 2007 state that maybe it’s not such a good idea to go flying that flag when the VP is around?
November 1st, 2007 at 12:53 pmThanks Buck Fush, I thought that was a diaper that looked like a Confederate flag.
November 1st, 2007 at 12:54 pmI’ve yet to understand why a hunting lodge in upstate NY would hang a Confederate flag…I just don’t get it, unless it’s in support of the right to bear arms.
Cheney’s ticker couldn’t take real hunting, so he shoots domestic birds just for the hell of it. If he was younger, he’d probably be looking to shoot some of us.
I’d like to take this chance to invite Big Dick hunting with me this weekend. It’s Deer season in MN. Dick, bring a high powered rifle with a scope. Wear balze orange, it will be that much easier to see you.
November 1st, 2007 at 12:55 pmAs long as we rely on the southern states to cement our base for national elections, I will have no comment
November 1st, 2007 at 12:55 pmFrom the article: In a phone interview today, Mr. Sharpton elaborated a bit further. He expressed incredulity that Mr. Cheney’s security detail would not have noticed — or been bothered by — the presence of the flag. “It is hard to believe, with a security team and detail searching everywhere the vice president goes in advance, that he would not want to know how this was there or how the security team could not have seen this as inappropriate and insulting,†he said, adding, “You either have security incompetence or security insensitivity.â€
You can bet that if someone had been wearing a T-shirt that didn’t praise Darth, the security detail would have noticed THAT!
November 1st, 2007 at 12:59 pmOh, poor TCDon, can’t handle the truth. The headline is completely appropriate, since it’s true. Here’s the deal: you morons stop lying about us, we’ll stop telling the truth about you.
November 1st, 2007 at 1:02 pmWhy would anyone even still have a Confederate Flag around ? Years ago the rednecks would have a flag on their pickup back window but that has passed away.
And please, the only reason Bush and Poppy Bush have residences here is to get out of paying State tax and maybe to suck up to the millionaire environmental polluters.
November 1st, 2007 at 1:03 pmTo everyone wondering why anyone would still have a flag? Who knows? But you might want to start paying attention to that issue, because those Rebel flags are a lot more common than you might have imagined. And while Cheney and his spokesperson might never have talked about it (impossible to believe, given flag battles in places like South Carolina…), you can bet that had that flag had a swastika, it would have been taken down immediately. Confederate flags? Offensive only to those who probably aren’t going to support Cheney, anyway, so who gives a crap what they think?
November 1st, 2007 at 1:14 pmRayman – Check the voting map you will find 17 States North of the Mason Dixon line went Red. Appalling to me as well, however, it wasn’t just the Southern States that bought the Bush crap.
Of course, it would be interesting to find out which states had the most vote fraud. We know about Ohio and probably Florida with Jebby watching.
Again, can a Republican win anything honorably? Doesn’t seem so.
November 1st, 2007 at 1:22 pmFor a Southerner to fly the Confederate flag, he MIGHT be expressing pride in his heritage. For a Northerner to do so, there is only one reason – to express white supremacy.
November 1st, 2007 at 1:27 pmhe didn’t see the flag… just like he didn’t see his buddy and hunting partner when he shot him in the face… just like he didn’t see the intel reports saying iraq (and now iran) was not a threat… just like everything else he doesn’t see….
November 1st, 2007 at 1:43 pm#20 posted he didn’t see the flag… just like he didn’t see his buddy and hunting partner when he shot him in the face… just like he didn’t see the intel reports saying iraq (and now iran) was not a threat… just like everything else he doesn’t see….
Of course he couldn’t, wouldn’t, doesn’t see it; he’s slee… excuse me, meditating.
November 1st, 2007 at 1:50 pmHe didn’t see the flag, huh? Were there targets to practice on out there that may have looked like New Orleans residents? He is about as low as you can get. I certainly hope no one believes this guy about anything anymore.

November 1st, 2007 at 1:53 pmThe governor’s silence was consent, as was that of his usually outspoken wife, Hillary Clinton.
Comment by TCDon — November 1, 2007 @ 1:49 pm
We know this is all very confusing for you TCDon, what with trying to pass your 10th grade education off as a law degree. But this thread is not about the Clintons. It’s about Dick Cheney, shooter at large.
November 1st, 2007 at 2:03 pmTCDon isn’t aware that Clinton isn’t president any more? C’mon, donnie, wake up. that kind of ignorance marks you as a full-fledged republican, and nobody should deserve that ignominy. There is no lower creature on the earth than a republican, so be careful, or Cheney will shoot you, demand an apology, and cover your body with the Confederate treason flag.
November 1st, 2007 at 2:10 pmBesides, everyone knows the Clintons are crypto-Repugs.
November 1st, 2007 at 2:17 pmAdd to the egregiousness is the fact that Cheney is hunting on a Monday. I only care about appearances here; we are better off if Cheney just sits in the corner.
November 1st, 2007 at 2:18 pmSo it’s ok for Mexicans to walk around waving the Mexican flag but not ok for southerners to wave their flag? talk about double standards,
