Rove’s math.

By Faiz Shakir on Nov 2nd, 2007 at 1:57 pm

Rove’s math.

In an interview with the Midland Reporter-Telegram, former Bush political adviser Karl Rove again predicted that Iraq will not the biggest issue in the 2008 election. The paper writes, “He added that corruption, not Iraq, will be the No. 1 issue.” In July, Rove spoke at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado, where he also said Iraq may not be a big issue. Sadly, progressives seem to be abetting the effort to deemphasize Iraq. Read a review of Karl Rove’s failed predictions here.

“He added that corruption, not Iraq, will be the No. 1 issue.”

well, he’s certainly an authority on the subject of corruption.

  3. Buckie Boy says:

“that corruption, not Iraq, will be the No. 1 issue” and KKKarl knows all about that corruption stuff, now doesn’t he.

  4. Frosty Cupcake says:

Rove confuses reality with wishful thinking these days.

  5. alphainfinityomega says:

Whose corruption is Rove referring to ?
Plus, the whole damned Iraq war is/was corrupt.

    Buckie Boy @ 2:00 pm …
just what i was about to say… karl should know about corruption…

have to say – that was MY number 1 issue last time…
    cleaning up the mess…
i figured ending the war would be easy, compared…

now, i just hope there really IS another election…

  8. Menehune says:

Karl, again with ‘the’ math? The corruption factor dropped appreciably in Washington when you were finally flushed from the bowl.

  9. Frosty Cupcake says:

Followed the link to Rove’s past predictions. It gave me a grim laugh.

No one has to assert you are an idiot for everyone to know. They only have to read your posts.

Yeah, this administration is sooooo corrupt that it should scare the pants off all Americans. Terrorists my butt, be afraid of GW666 and his band of Fascist Brownshirt Lockstep Neanderturds, there is nothing that this bunch of crimials won’t do to retain power.

Comment by Kucinich’s Alien Pal – I know I did that and don’t care, fool.

  14. Dumb_Fox says:

“He added that corruption, not Iraq, will be the No. 1 issue.”

Right, because Iraq and corruption are mutually exclusive issues.

    Pigfcuker.

  15. Frosty Cupcake says:

Well the situation in Iraq *is* corrupt. Missing weapons, missing cash, no bid contracts, Blackwater’s shoot-em-ups…

As someone said earlier, they sort of go together.

  16. Gary Kleppe says:

Sadly, progressives seem to be abetting the effort to deemphasize Iraq.

You keep saying this, but have yet to tell us who these alleged progressives are. If right-wingers made a broad generalization like this without even coming up with any examples, you’d be all over them, and rightly so.

Kucinich is the progressive candidate for President, and he certainly isn’t deemphasizing Iraq, nor is he waffling about the need to get out now. If you’re considering Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama as progressives, I’ve got some land to sell you in south Florida. Cheap.

  17. Veritas says:

Karl Rove’s still talking about himself and the level of corruption he masterminded. That guy’s ego is amazing, isn’t it? He knows he was one of the kingpins of corruption and continues to laud himself and pat himself on the back. This guy should be in prison and not out there on the circuit right now.

  18. Veritas says:

As for as progressives/liberals go, Iraq is the Numero Uno debacle in this country right now. Why would anyone change their tune from the midterms where the Iraq War was the primary concern? And the Republiscum in congress and WH was the secondary concern?? What’s changed? Absolutely zilch.

These neonazis just need something to spin and, when all else fails, they make shit up.

  19. mary says:

You’ve got that right Gary! Don’t mess with Gary – he’s a brainiac! (I peeked at your profile – damn!)

It blows my mind that they’re throwing this meme out there! Which progressives I ask you? Kucinich is the only progressive in the bunch!

As for fearing Karl, deferment Rove, think again. I personally thank the architect for driving dear leaders poll numbers into the 30’s and below. Bush’s Brain is an Oxymoron in more ways than one.

  21. Veritas says:

After all, the Iraq War is tanking out economy into the next century and on the backs of our children, their children, and their children….which ties perfectly into our economic future. So when looking realistically at just about everything wrong with this country right now, it distills down to no money left to take care of our own people, infrastructure, and needs.

IRAQ IS TAKING THIS COUNTRY DOWN THE TUBES AND QUICKLY. OBL was absolutely right: no need do anything to this country led by thugs and buffoons – we’ll tank ourselves all by ourself! His prophesy is, sadly, becoming reality.

  22. Veritas says:

Let’s ask little dough-boy Karl about his intimate buddy, Jeffy Lube, shall we?

  23. Tom In Maine says:

I hate to admit it, but Rove in all likelyhood is right, after all he still has an inside track.

Iraq won’t be the main issue, it will either be Iran or the country being under Marshall law or a combination of those issues.

  24. Squegeeboo says:

“He added that corruption, not Iraq, will be the No. 1 issue.”

I’m sure it’s been said several times already. But isn’t that just as bad for the R’s?

  25. mary says:

I’m going to take a straw poll over the weekend. I’m going to ask as many people as possible, as I run around doing errands, what they consider the most important issue of the ‘08 election. I’ll report in on Monday with the results.

  26. Leftside Annie says:

Karl Rove should just eat sh*t and die.

    Now.

  27. Jeremy in Denver says:

    >Proving its self an idiot with every post.

Eh…perhaps you need to refresh your own view of contractions.

The OP correctly, if clumsily, used the possessive form of ‘it’. “The cat has paws. Its paws are white.” Its is the possessive form of it, which refers to the cat. You are mistakenly saying that he should have used it’s, which is a contraction of ‘it is’. “Proving it is self an idiot with every post”? That works rather poorly. Now what he should have used is the reflexive ‘itself’, since the unstated subject ‘it’ is the same object referred to by the construct ‘its self’.

Before asserting that Im an idiot, you might want to work on your contractions.

And you shouldn’t cast stones if you live in a glass house.

Turd Blossom is NOT gone, just working in the shadows along with his aide and probably soon Hughes will join. They have to fix the 2008 elections and it will take more work than it did in 2006.

Anyone who thinks Rove is not up to the usual smearing, dirty deeds might want to look at some swampland I have for sale.

  29. gulfwargrunt says:

Giuliani tried to stay in office after his term was over becase of the post-9/11 “emergency” (which alone should disqualify him as a presidential hopeful). If there is terrorist attack in the US between October 2008 and January 2009 – do you doubt there will be some right-wingers calling for an “extension” of the Bush Administration?

  30. lcossey says:

Clearly, he thinks that he is the puppet master and he gets to not only choose the puppets, but what strings to pull. I agree whole heartedly with Leftside Annie, he should eat sh#t and die (thought it was good enough to be printed twice).

  31. Gary Kleppe says:

Iraq won’t be the main issue, it will either be Iran or the country being under Marshall law or a combination of those issues.

If the country is under martial law next November, it won’t matter what the issues are because there won’t be an election.

Kucinich Will Introduce Privileged Resolution To Force Up Or Down Vote On Cheney Impeachment

WASHINGTON – November 2 – Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) announced today that he will be offering a privileged resolution on the House floor next week that will bring articles of impeachment against the Vice President, Richard B. Cheney.
    [...]
“Despite this groundswell of opposition to the unconstitutional conduct of office, Vice President Cheney continues to violate the U.S. Constitution by insisting the power of the executive branch is supreme.
“Congress must hold the Vice President accountable. The American people need to let Members of Congress know how they feel about this. The Vice President continues to use his office to advocate for a continued occupation of Iraq and prod our nation into a belligerent stance against Iran. If the Vice President is successful, his actions will ensure decades of disastrous consequences.”

  35. Xisithrus says:

If I were \\/\\/, thankfully thats not so, I would want nothing whatsoever to do with Karl Rove. \\/\\/ should call him and tell him to pipe down. His devisive partisan tactics and continous campaign propaganda have pretty much destroyed the \\/\\/ legacy. \\/\\/ should have never put the ‘necessary evil’ into a governmental office, that was a huge mistake of monumental proportions, ecxept for the ice cream he liked to deliver on Fridays, that is.

  36. EvilPoet says:

Corruption? According to the almighty Commander Guy’s Warrior Princess, Iraq has a big problem with that as well. Sorry to disappoint you Mr. Rove, the subject of Iraq is not “off the table”.

  37. toasterhead says:

He’s probably right. We’ll be too distracted by the war with Iran and our subsequent invasion by Russia and China to care about Iraq.

  38. Buckie Boy says:

Comment by Jeremy in Denver –

I know I did that, and guess what, I don’t care. You make typos sometimes with typing fast. So what?

Spliting typing errors doesn’t make “It” less of an idiot.

    Buck Fush

  39. nofltwlt says:

Great, now someone knows the whereabouts of Karl Rove! Someone needs to put a bell around his neck to keep track of him. No matter where he is he will be up to his old tricks.

So what if corruption and not the war is the big ticket for 2008; corruption is a GOP thing; so it too will sack the repugs.

  40. plunger says:

Rove simply knows that Cheney is planning a dirty bomb false flag attack against America in the near future in order to justify nuking Iran to Kingdom Come.

Iraq and Iran won’t even exist at that point. Nuclear winter will be the hot topic as the elections draw near, right Karl?

Nothing like Armageddon to put those Democrats back on their heels.

  41. jgrant@goldfeinlaw.com says:

Wake up!!!! Rove says it ‘ll be about corruption because the policy is in place to indict Democrats . The political arm of the justice department put in place by Alberto Gonzales is still going strong .
Watch how many cases are brought against Democrats .
Rove knows not as many Republicans will face charges even if they did the same thing a democrat may have done .
    Ask Jeff Sessions !!!!!!!

  42. texaslady says:

One thing tho, the way the Republicans are falling with sex charges, they might clean themselves out. Richard Curtis State Rep resigned this week. Wonder how many for the year have had to quit.

  43. Dave C says:

Here’s some math for you… the Canadian dollar hit $1.07 U.S. today, or to put it in your terms, your dollar is worth 93.45¢ Cdn. It’s the lowest your $ has ever sunk in relation to the Cdn $. Ever. Fifty years ago it was within a penny of this level & that was the record. What does this mean? It will help the U.S. with exports because everything is on sale big time. But it will hurt anyone who actually spends money as anything entering the country will cost much more then it did before. Up here Walmart is quickly lowering prices, Sears is promising to sell things at the U.S. price (which used to be about 25% lower then the Cdn price) until they get the prices sorted out. So everything that is entering Canada from the U.S. has to be dropped in price since it’s so much cheaper then before. It wasn’t that long ago (Jan, 2002) that our dollar was worth 62.00¢ U.S. and yours was $1.6128. So while GWB was at the helm of your wonderful economy your dollar has dropped 73.5% in just over 5 years. Wow. How low can it go?

  44. LividLib says:

why is it i’m reminded of that scene in the movie Deliverance whenever i see Rove’s plump, pasty mug? remember the scene involving Ted Beatty and those republican hillbillies?

    SQUEAL LIKE A PIG, BOY!

You don’t have to tell me! One of the companies I work for depends on imports and they are hurting! Hope they can stay in business.

  46. shoeless says:

I’m confused. Is Rove suggesting it’s better for the Republicans to lose in 2008 for being terminally corrupt, than it is for them to lose for being insane bloodthirsty chickenhawks?

  47. Dave C says:

So while GWB was at the helm of your wonderful economy your dollar has dropped 73.5% in just over 5 years. Wow. How low can it go?

    Comment by Dave C — November 2, 2007 @ 3:03 pm

    Correction, it’s a drop of 42%.

  48. Buckie Boy says:

    How low can it go?

    Comment by Dave C

Before GW666 life was good, wife did not have to work, we were doing fine.
After GW666, wife HAS to work, inflation is eating every dollar we make and at 140K a year we can barely make ends meet.

Of course our “Liberal” media is ignoring the extreme inflation that will lead to a depression if this idiot pResident keeps “keeping the course”.

    Buck Fush

  49. texaslady says:

The numbers on the economy released this week just don’t seem to equate to the news I hear in our area. I know many small business’s pay in cash because payroll taxes eat them up. Cash commerce is growing and growing.

  50. Jeremy in Denver says:

Yep…I remember a time that my wife could gas her car up for less than $20, when another $20 for food would give me enough to eat for a week comfortably, when my electric bill in the winter (in Baton Rouge) would be $50, my rent was $375 a month, and I had spending money left over from 30 hours a week at 8 an hour.

Now rent is $650 a month, Electric never goes below $110 a month, tag another $50 a month for gas in the warm months and $200 a month for cold months, it’d take $50 to fill my wife’s old car’s tank if we still had it, and the same amount of food, which is now killing me slowly, costs $50 a week.

Hey, Rove. That’s the math I see. Go blow it out your butt.

  51. Tom In Maine says:

If the country is under martial law next November, it won’t matter what the issues are because there won’t be an election.

There may not be an election, but that doesn’t mean the issues will go away, they will just be compounded.

  52. Dave C says:

I’ve been of the opinion for a few years now that GWB will not step down in 2008/9. Some catastrophe will arise that will prevent the elections from taking place. I hope I’m wrong but doubt it. You don’t create/steal all of these Presidential powers just to give them up to a Democrat. At a minimum your voting will be so rigged that no Democrat will win. But even then I can’t see Bush giving up all of this.

  53. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

The first in 220 years to not give up power peacefully? I don’t think so, but I admit that this bunch comes closest to making me think it could happen. I don’t think the military would cooperate with a shutting down of elections, seeing as how we had elections during the Civil War, the Spanish American War, WWI, WWII, the Korean War, Viet Nam and this very Iraq war. We’ve held elections during all of these conflicts. On what basis would anyone presume to postpone an election?

  54. texaslady says:

Republicans tried to pull the “no elections during war” before and finally enough public outcry shut it down. But, Rove has even stated he believes in a one party system and he is despicable enough to try and control 2008.

  55. MapleStreet says:

I don’t get it. I know that the war doesn’t look good for the repubs. But corruption includes Abramov and all the K Street lobbyists that the repubs put in power. And it also brings up toe-tappin’ congressmen.

So how does corruption help the repubs ?

  56. Gregor Samsa says:

Iraq or corruption, it matters little which one is the biggest issue in the 2008 elections.

They are both the result of Pres Bush’s failed policies and/or rampant cronyism. Whichever one is on the voters’ mid, it cannot possibly be good news for the Republican candidate.

    Rove’s “math” is again saying 2 + 2 = 5.
