Number of Americans who are “eager for a change in direction from the agenda and priorities of President Bush,” according to a new Washington Post/ABC News poll. With just 24 percent of the public believing the Bush administration is leading the nation on the right track, it is the “lowest public assessment of the direction of the country in more than a decade.”

Bush has finally outdone Reagan in something. The wingsters will be overjoyed.
Congrats guys, your icon’s as popular as Cod Liver Oil.
November 4th, 2007 at 12:07 pmThe majority of people wanting a change after Clinton was because they were tired of hearing about blowjobs.
Look at how the congress and media have played out the last 9 years of the political theatre. Clinton is railed for consensual sex and Libby walks for covering up treason at a time of war because a CIA operative specifically dealing with WMD in the middle east was outed by someone in the administration – and the press lets it go.
Blowjobs: bad. Proliferation of WMD in the Middle East: good.
And I am surprised that so many people realized that Reagan was not ALL THAT…for he certainly was not.

November 4th, 2007 at 12:25 pmJust to play devil’s advocate, wouldn’t extreme right wingers also believe the nation is on the “wrong track”, thus contributing to these fairly meaningless statistics?

November 4th, 2007 at 11:44 amIsn’t it a little late for the country to have “Buyer Remorse”? Anyone can be somewhat sympathetic to America when the election was stolen in 2000…but to actually elect the Republican Fascist Party in 2004 after what happened in 2000?? Now that’s a stretch indeed, causing some to say, “maybe America is getting exactly what they voted for and no doubt deserve!”

Extreme right-wingers might be included in that 75%, true — but to my way of thinking, all that serves to do is spotlight even further just how incompetent this man is. Liberals have never liked him even if simply because he’s a social conservative. Most moderate or half-and-half conservatives (fiscally conservative, socially liberal) have been growing increasingly disenchanted with him over the past couple of years because of his profligate spending and the fact that some of the money we’re spending on the War In Iraq can’t be accounted for. Some conservatives have been losing faith in him because of the ways in which he’s gone against the Constitution in the name of “executive privilege”. Some of the ultra-extreme and/or borderline fascist right-wingers may be growing disenchanted with him because they feel that he’s not doing enough for the War On Terror (wondering why he doesn’t simply cut to the chase by nuking both Iraq and Iran, perhaps). Frankly, right now I think that the only loyalists which Bush has left are probably the neoconservatives and those among the whole-milk conservatives who place a higher premium on social conservatism than on fiscal conservatism (i.e., the Christian Right).
November 4th, 2007 at 12:25 pm24 percent of Americans believe Bush is leading the country on the right track. That’s roughly the same number of Americans who have bad breath. I’m not making a connection or proposing a new conspiracy theory. Just saying.
November 4th, 2007 at 12:46 pmHi, Leftside Annie (#2)
November 4th, 2007 at 12:46 pmI posted on another thread today – I read an excerpt and it is chilling. All Americans should read it.
Does any of this bullshit really matter any more. Screw the DEMOCRAT party. They are nothing more than a bunch of girlie boys without the balls to do what is necessary to stand up to the president. This country is shit. We have eight years of authoritarian, fascist government to learn that the Republicans will screw every person they can get. Then we will have a DEMOCRAT president and majority in congress. The Republicans will ridicule them. The DEMOCRAT party will bend over and spread their cheeks to take it. The people will realize what panty waists the Democrat party is and the process will repeat.
November 4th, 2007 at 1:17 pmThe ready for change poll says it all. 53% of the public LIKED the country’s direction during Clinton’s presidency at the 7 year mark. Compare that to George ” we will bring DIGNITY and Morals back to the White House” Bush. That is a a 28% drop in satisfaction- or equal to our Boy King’s current popularity!!
I LOVE my country, but everyday I become less proud of it.
November 4th, 2007 at 1:20 pmI saw Naomi Wolf a few weeks ago at a book signing, she inspired me not to frightened, but to take action. I am taking part in a General Strike on Tuesday 11-6-07. Naomi has a Liberty Kit full of suggestions for the strike. We need to do this and take back OUR
November 4th, 2007 at 1:41 pmcountry. If 75% of the dissatisfied citizens just didn’t buy anything on 11-6-07 and called their congresspeople and let them know why
WE could affect change that are FOUNDERS would be proud of.
.
Job Approval Rating
BUSH = 33%
Dem’s in Congress = 28%
So, Why should I be thinking about voting for someone who’ll continue to NOT listen to the people of America, who will continue the same foreign policy blunder, Iraq occupation, with the added threat of “ALL options” on the table concerning further military advances on other Nations?
I mean, if America is so desperate for change, how are Hillary or Obama that change for America? More war?… more deficit spending?… no healthcare?… more tax cuts for the rich/their friends?… more cronyism?…
If I’m tired of wearing red, how is pink a change? A lighter shade of the same color is NOT change…

That’s one of the reasons why I’m giving serious thought to voting Green as a protest in the next election and advocating that other people do the same — especially if, as some people have suggested there might be, there’s an independent conservative candidate who succeeds in attracting the Christian Right away from the GOP. You don’t have to remind me of the arguments against voting Green because I used them myself in 2000 and 2004 — but I just don’t think that I can stomach voting either Democrat or Republican this time around without serious anti-emetic medication. There’s only one Republican candidate whom I might even remotely be inclined to vote for, but he hasn’t a prayer of being the nominee — and given that I live in New York City and remember only too well what Giuliani is like, I will not vote for him if he’s nominated (and it looks like he has at least a fair-to-middling shot at it). Conversely, while I tend to favor Edwards in the Democratic party, my guess is that he won’t be the nominee. The thought of voting for Hillary turns my stomach — and I have a lot of problems with Obama as well, especially given his connections to an anti-gay activist. We desperately need a third (possibly even a fourth) party in this country which can pose a challenge to the Democrats and the Republicans and THROW DEM BUMS OUT!!
November 4th, 2007 at 1:46 pmRecession is likely, ow please, doesn’t anyone listen to Georgie anymore when he says the economy is strong and all…. Jeez, I mean… take a look at the dollar value, hmm. Ok, bad example, look at the budget surplus, hmm, oh it’s a deficit? Look at the job growth! Indeed, considering per capita income decreased we’re probably working more for even less buying power! The ultimate Republican slogan…
November 4th, 2007 at 4:14 pmPeople were much happier under Clinton:
Gallup Poll 2/12-13/ 1999:
November 4th, 2007 at 6:51 pmSatisfied with way things are going in US? 71%
Dissatisfied? 26%
Unsure? 3%
All MainStreamMedia saying how great latest job growth month of 166,000 was. We need 140,000 just to keep up with population growth. Clinton’s average for 96 months was 237,000. GWBush’s average is 72,000.

Exactly what repubs want you to do you stupid ass. This is how we got Bush in the first place, or does your memory go back that far?
November 5th, 2007 at 12:19 pmAnd, by the way, dumbass, that JMOHR post was a phony. That’s definitely NOT the JMOHR who has been posting reasonable, historically accurate posts around here off and on for a few months. JMOHR does not refer to the party as the “Democrat” party. You’ve been sandbagged, stupid. Wise up and understand that republicans will do anything to keep people from voting for democrats. They WANT you to vote Green and you’ll be happy to be a perfect tool.

With all due respect, “Colonel”, it’s said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. In all honesty, what hope have we in change if people keep voting for Democrats or Republicans and expecting something different to happen? Has all that much really changed since the election of 2006? Have the Democrats really succeeded in making a difference as they promised to do? I think we would both agree that the answer to that question is a resounding NO. So what’s to be done? Simply stop caring, stop making any sort of an effort, and give up like so many other people in this country have already done? I refuse to do that — so who do you suggest I vote for? Given that many people in this country are fed right up to their gills with both parties, it would make sense for people to start voting more frequently for independent candidates even if simply at the state level — both the Democrat and Republican parties desperately need to be startled out of their collective complacent stupor and made to realiize that they’re actually going to have to start focusing more time on doing their jobs and serving the interests of the people instead of their own interests if they want to keep their seats. The Founding Fathers never intended our government to be like this…in fact, the Founding Fathers are probably spinning like mad in their collective graves at what our government has become and what we have allowed it to become. That’s one of the problems with a democracy — we get the government we deserve. If the Democrats and the Republicans together are all we have to show for ourselves, we are in truly sorry shape as a country.
And for the record…there is NO need to result to ad hominems. especially since that’s a sign of someone who doesn’t really have an answer to the argument but doesn’t want to admit it. Did I do that to you? No — I made an effort to respond to your post respectfully. I wish that you had offered me the same courtesy — even though verbal attack does seem rather admirably suited to your chosen moniker.
