Bush finally talks to Musharraf.

By Satyam Khanna on Nov 7th, 2007 at 5:20 pm

Bush finally talks to Musharraf.

For four days after Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf declared a state of emergency in Pakistan, President Bush refused to directly contact Musharraf. Reuters reports that Bush has finally made the call:

U.S. President George W. Bush said on Wednesday he had spoken to Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and urged him to both hold elections and give up his military post. [...]

“My message was that we believe strongly in elections and that you ought to have elections soon and you need to take off your uniform. You can’t be the president and the head of the military at the same time,” Bush said at a joint news conference with French President Nicolas Sarkozy. “I had a very frank discussion with him, Bush said.

Yesterday, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino stated: “The decision has been made to have Secretary Rice be the one directed to have this communication.”

And Mushy's reply echoed Darth's comment to Senator Leahy.

"You can’t be the president and the head of the military at the same time."

Bush needs to take his own fu*king advice. All he talks about is being commander-in-chief and last time I checked, he was still (the worst) president of the United States.

  3. profmarcus Says:

i suspect that what they REALLY talked about was pervez' thoughts on declaring martial law in the united states and what circumstances might be deliberately instigated to set the stage for that happening...

And, yes, I DO take it personally

  4. RUCerious Says:

Did he actually use the phone? Or did he ask God to relay the message?

  5. Leftside Annie Says:

Then what the hell is this crap he's always spouting about being Commander in Chief...?

Good lord, where is this child's irony detector?

    "I'm the commander guy."

    war-president, commander-in-chief, please die now.

  8. bilbobaggins Says:

Oh really, then if Musharraf can't do that then neither can Bush. I hope that the 76% of the people in this country with an IQ better than room temperature are paying attention. Because what Musharraf did in Pakistan is quite likely what Bush is planning on doing here. That's part of the reason why he isn't really criticizing Musharraf for what he has done.

It's time for Congress to get involved and cut off all future aid funds to Pakistan as long as Musharraf is still controlling the country. If they don't do that, they will be implicitly supporting Musharraf.

  9. Leftside Annie Says:

Oh, Condi says that Pervey just has to take off his military uniform and get dressed in a regular suit, and then everything will be hunky-dory.

    *eyeroll*

Military aid, yes. Development aid, no. We get a hell of a lot more benefit supporting health and education and infrastructure in Pakistan than we do funding their military.

The point here is that in America the office of Commander-in-Chief is a CIVILIAN position not a military one. General Eisenhower took off the uniform when he became President. So no, you can't be a civilian head of state and military head of the Armed Forces at the same time.

    Can you be the "Commander-guy"?

    Was Jeff Gannon around?

  14. fletc3her Says:

This incident reveals how little sway the United States has on the world stage now. We no longer have any influence or credibility. Isn't "frank discussion" diplomatic language for total disagreement?

  15. Rebel in CA Says:

If media had some sense this is how they might have reported it:
(The parts that did not get reported are in bold lettring)

“My message was that we believe strongly in elections and that you ought to have (fixed) elections soon and you need to take off your uniform ('cause Uncle Dick loves your body). You can’t be the president and the head of the military at the same time (only I can),” Bush said at a joint news conference with French President Nicolas Sarkozy (his new lap-dog). “I had a very frank discussion with him (about nothing that matters), Bush said.

    End sarcasm

    Military aid, yes.

Well, some thousands of Iranians in the 80's might think that that is one awful idea.

And this is just dejavu for the United States of Moronican President. The Delay-in-Chief waited days with the helping the Katrina victims and Tsunami victims. Waiting on Bush to do his job as commander-in-chief in this country is like waiting for the cows to come home. He has to get permission from his boss Supreme Leader Dick.

    Cappy - yeah, in theory.

However, I think that with all the power Chimpy has gathered up under this ridiculous "unitary executive" idea so prevalent in Washington these days - that fine line between the civilian position of Commander in Chief and the military Commander in Chief has already been crossed.

Any argument that Chimpy is not the head of the military is becoming increasingly only a matter of *semantics* - and not reality.

Dammit! Colonel North told that damned Ayatollah we'd go no lower than $3.25 million per missile. Anything less than that is an insult! Where else were they goinna get their weapons from, North Korea???

You know Bush has professionals to make up excuses for him that we will hear about. So, you don't need to be an apologist for our "commander guy."

  21. SP Biloxi Says:

"White House spokeswoman Dana Perino stated: 'The decision has been made to have Secretary Rice be the one directed to have this communication.' " And yes, I heard that from our favorite bubblehead press secretary yesterday. Ooops..I guest someone didn't communicate that screw-up with Perino.

“I had a very frank discussion with him, Bush said.

"I said to him, Muushy, how did it feel?
Did you get a rush from it? heh heh...
or was it a long, slow release?
I bet it felt good, huh... nekked... no uniform... heh "
    .

  23. DigDug Says:

The real question is will Bush cut off the billions of dollars in aid that we're giving to Pakistan if he doesn't hold elections, and doesn't give up the uniform.

  24. OxyCon Says:

"Take off your uniform Mushariff! Only 'Flight Suit Boy' gets to strut around in Military gear.

  25. Buckie Boy Says:

Did he ask for any advice? Like-

"How did you take over and get away with it?"

"I bet it felt good to lock up those pesky lawyers."

"Did you forward that 1 billion to my off shore account like I asked you to do?"

    Buck Fush

  26. Wayne Says:

My message was that we believe strongly in elections and that you ought to have elections soon and you need to take off your uniform.

Then Bush offered to let him borrow his "Emperor Clothes" right?

  27. tarazan Says:

Bush asked Musharraf to take his military uniform.
Musharraf answered: "I'll be naked, if I do".

  28. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre Says:

Go ahead and hold some "elections" Mr. Musharraf... We have thousands of slightly used Diebold electronic voting machines that you can use, too: these machines are so insecure you can rig the vote count any way you please. and you can do remotely from anyway; why, back in November 2004, we flipped seven million votes from Kerry to me... and 99.99% of the people didn't even notice at all. Electronic election theft is the way to, Mr. Musharraf, cause most folks are too trusting and too naive to even think that we would be that crooked...

  29. Veritas Says:

Condi Rice: From Bush's token/plaything to Bush's Scapegoat. Wow!

  30. Veritas Says:

The fact is that Bush supports dictators especially if 1) our economy is contingent upon them supplying us with goods and 2) if they're a benevolent dictator - that is, benevolent toward GWB and his Cabal.

After living through the cold war with the communists being the "boogeyman" to conquer, I find it an iron twist that China is a Communist Country and China now holds over l/3 of our national debt - a debt that can call due and payable and hold over our heads.

What's different about being held a hostage physically and being held a hostage "financially"??

So Bush picks and chooses his dictators with great care. The European bloc no doubt considers Bush to be a dictator after invading a sovereign nation like Iraq.....for that matter so does a growing number of americans. What are Bush's poll numbers now??

  31. Veritas Says:

I'm not sure if I meant an ironic twist or an "iron fist". Wasn't that clenched fist the icon of communism back when??

  32. Jeannie See Says:

I don't believe a word that comes out of that mans mouth. I want to hear the conversation for myself then I might believe that he actually made then phone call.

  33. Jackie Says:

Bush is making the people of Pakistan think he runs their country and Musharraf is just a puppet. Now if Musharraf follows Bush's orders look for Al Qaeda to step in. As for the Lady who's running for Leadership in Pakistan it is well known she is following the orders of the White House. If Osama comes in to take over Pakistan well at lease Osama wont have to worry about NUKES. Yes thanks to Bush/Cheney Pakistan has the NUKES the US gave them. The Iran President is laughing his a-s off at this one. The Saudi are enjoying a good wine as the see how stupid the Bush/Cheney group are. The French President sees that the US just gives money away so he'll pay along to get as much as he can while these idiots are in office. But don't look for any French soldiers to join the US.

  34. Xisithrus Says:

You cant wear the uniform and be the president at the same time.

Musharaff probably said, "WHAT?, Whats a commander in chief?"

  35. tomazulob Says:

Hi'm the decider, and hI decide that Connie talk to Pervey boy since hI can't decide hif Pervey his right or wrong. Heh, heh, heh--I said "Pervey"--heh, heh, heh. Besides RU Cerius was asking about Jeff Gannon, and hI've got to look that boy up again. Oh wait, hI just saw him hin the picture just above this article. He's standing next to that Fred actor fella!

  36. Jay Randal Says:

LOL then Bush needs to stop strutting around in military uniforms at photo-ops.

  37. ArtZ Says:

ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THE FRENCH CALL MR. SARKOZY?
    SARKO-FASCIST
This was during the THREE FULL DAYS of VIOLENT STREET RIOTS after Sarkozy stole the French election.
But you'd never know it from reading the American news media reports...
Can't think of a better crew to surround Bush, Perverse Musharraf, the tyrant dictator and Nic Sarko-Fascist the French tyrant.

So now we know precisely how long the petulance will (or at least could) last. Four days. This can come in handy in the future for Pelosi and Reid when negotiating with George. It's helpful to know how long it will take for your opponent -- in this case a man-boy -- will cave during negotiations. Four days, apparently.
