The House passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) passed this evening with a 235-184 vote. Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), on the verge of tears, one of two openly gay members of the House, delivered an emotional speech denouncing the efforts of conservatives who attempted to sabotage the bill with parliamentary manuevers. Frank received resounding applause. Watch it:
Watch ENDA speeches from Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) here.
Gays are Americans too, and deserve what the rest of us enjoy, and deserve it equally.
Come on Daryll, you POS, let’s hear some bigotry from the closeted repukian fascist pig side of the isle.
Buck Fush
November 7th, 2007 at 7:02 pmGlad to hear it, now if Bush will sign it into law….and pigs fly, everything will be great.
I applaud the efforts, but we still have to get this through the White House without a signing statement or VETO.
November 7th, 2007 at 7:04 pmBarney Frank is a great man and a great representative. It gives me hope to see someone speak so passionately about the need to end discrimination in this country.
It is appalling that Republicans have decided to become the party of hate, the party of bigotry, the party of discrimination. Rather than white cloaks to hide their faces, they hide behind parliamentary procedure so they will not be on record as the bigots that they are.
November 7th, 2007 at 7:20 pmIt’s a shame the Repugnant party is so full of hate!

Research shows most homophobes are gay.
November 7th, 2007 at 7:31 pmSo when are you coming out of the closet, because from that rant it shows you are very gay.
Comment by Cepan — November 7, 2007 @ 7:24 pm
My daughter has two godfathers. Both men of character far greater than that I have found in almost all others. They have also enjoyed a monogamous and loving relationship for well over twenty years far more than most hetero couples I know. My church and God welcomed the opportunityfor these superior human beings to stand in my stead for this little girl should that need ever arise. Upon what grounds do you base your expressed opinions especially with the vitriol you have chosen to employ?
November 7th, 2007 at 7:32 pmThe DemocratIC Party is the party of tolerance.
November 7th, 2007 at 7:34 pmCepan is not an American.
November 7th, 2007 at 7:37 pmCepan, the New York Times did not say the surge was working, you lying piece of shit. caught you this time, you antiAmerican pig.
November 7th, 2007 at 7:38 pmY’all,
Most likely Cepan is a reich-wing, homophobic, Christianista, Jesusmongering freshman at Pat “a little boy in the lap” Robberson’s Regent University (13th grade, actually) that spews forth anti-Democratic venom with every breath of s/he/it’s useless, devil spawned, putrid, retarded soul just to disrupt a simple polite discourse and earn minimum wage if not cheated by reich-wing, homophobic, Christianista, Jesusmongering RePugniScums!!!
Ignore the useless troll!!!!
November 7th, 2007 at 7:39 pmYou insult ALL blacks by calling this a “civil rights†issue.
Comment by Cepan — November 7, 2007 @ 7:38 pm
November 7th, 2007 at 7:40 pmAnd you ahve insulted all peple who work for freedom with that lily-livered, cowardly, ignorant wide stance. You are as gay as Barney Frank, and y8ou’ve proven it with your ignorant screed. You’re afraid of yourself. Pretty funny, really, you have to live with a gay!
Bye, Cepan!
November 7th, 2007 at 7:41 pmGlad to see the dems got around to this forty years after the civil rights act was passed.
November 7th, 2007 at 7:47 pmCepan,
November 7th, 2007 at 7:50 pmFor real, what is your beef with homosexuals? On what is this beef based? I once knew a guy who would not watch MASH because of his experiences in Korea. I disagreed with him but at least was able to understand his stance as there was some basis to it. What’s your deal?
Oops, the transgendered have been left out of this one. I thought it was supposed to be equal rights and consideration for all?
November 7th, 2007 at 7:50 pmWho besides Barney Frank in Congress is openly gay? The sad thing is that there are probably a whole lot more gay folks _ especially on the Republican side _ but they’ll never own up.
November 7th, 2007 at 7:52 pmAny spending bills passed yet? Nice to see the dems have their priorities straight during their limited tenure.
November 7th, 2007 at 7:54 pmWow TP is kinda gay tonight. That’s fine and all.
November 7th, 2007 at 8:08 pmLGBT loves you.
November 7th, 2007 at 8:09 pmNice to see the dems have their priorities straight during their limited tenure.

Yes, it is nice to see that we have prioritized making discrimination in our country illegal. And you rotten GOP scum call yourselves Americans.
November 7th, 2007 at 8:19 pmYep….Cepan managed to get himself B&. :)
CePaN, Tp PwNs JoO!
(Sorry, couldn’t resist. :) )
Though dare I ask what he did to get the b&. :)
Anyway, good job. Eventually TG folks will get theirs, but this is a good start. A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step…

You done now or should I wait until the indignation has cooled?
I’m just saying that the country needs to pass its spending priorities so that it can…well….spend money on its programs and such, all other things should come later. The spending bills are currently going nowhere and, like it or not, we need them to keep the nation running.
November 7th, 2007 at 8:30 pmCool… now all the gay Republicans can come out of the bathroom stalls and tap dance in public.
November 7th, 2007 at 8:34 pmI am a 20 year military and university research assistant. I worked with over a thousand HIV NEG and HIV POS men and women and tracking them over several years in a longitudinal project studying their neuropsychological changes and the impact of stress.
November 7th, 2007 at 8:40 pmThis work gave me a very valuable lesson in life. It also introduced me to the finest people I will ever meet. It is a violation of all things sound in our core beliefs as Americans and as human to disrespect or discriminate.
So you believe that protecting a minority group from discrimination isn’t a priority? Yep, that’s typical wingnuttery.
Obviously not as the original civil rights act was passed over forty years ago, and the proponents of the ENDA bill framed it as a civil rights action.
COOL YOUR JETS CHILD – the COUNTRY IS STILL RUNNING!
You do know that not having spending bills in place means that the government must borrow the money to pay its bills, don’t you? Borrowing means accruing interest, just in case you didn’t know that either.
November 7th, 2007 at 8:49 pmCool… now all the gay Republicans can come out of the bathroom stalls and tap dance in public.
And all the gay democrats can solicit partners in public rather than surrepticiously at truck stops.
Pick a party and a problem, doesn’t matter which, both sides will share in it whatever it is.
November 7th, 2007 at 8:52 pmBarney is a part of the real america. the people’s represenative.
November 7th, 2007 at 8:54 pmWell said Mr. Frank. Wow, I wish all our representatives were cut from the same cloth.
November 7th, 2007 at 8:56 pmBush will most likely veto the bill or he can come out of the closet declaring his sexual love for Jeff Gannon > lol.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:26 pmYou do know that not having spending bills in place means that the government must borrow the money to pay its bills, don’t you? Borrowing means accruing interest, just in case you didn’t know that either
And if they had passed the spending bills, they wouldn’t have to borrow money to pay for them?
November 7th, 2007 at 9:28 pmIn case the new troll has had it’s head up it’s a$$ for the last 7 years, America has had to borrow almost 6 trillion dollars since GWB stole the election from Al Gore
November 7th, 2007 at 9:34 pmWhat Troll Buster said.
Now, Mookie, let me ask you WHY these bills haven’t been passed.
Couldn’t be that the Republicans are stalling and obstructing?
Could it be that the President is vetoing everything that even remotely looks nice on the Democrats?
Where has he suddenly found the Veto Pen 7 years into his presidency?
Yes, the Democrats have a hand in it as well, but you know what? Who should give in first? The Democrats? Heh, let’s see your guys give in first. If you aren’t willing to give a little, don’t expect any give in return.

Who the he!l are my “guys”? I have a choice between being taxed to death by the dems or taxed to death by the repubs, all for pet projects and failed policies that just get renamed and shuffled around every year: different name, same failures.
The war in Iraq is costing billions every month for people who can’t get past their archaic tribal system. Meanwhile the dems want to impose government healthcare using a regressive tax that by its very nature will die out eventually with no measure to replace it.
Both sides are ten pounds of crap stuffed into a five pound bag so believe me when I say that I don’t have, nor do I want in their current incarnation, any of these “guys” on my side. Criminals, malcontents and motley losers, most of them.
November 7th, 2007 at 10:29 pmIgnore the new troll, it’s a waste of time.
November 7th, 2007 at 10:40 pmWay to go, Barney.
November 7th, 2007 at 11:15 pmBigotry and prejudice must not be tolerated in a free society. We are still free, aren’t we?
Way to go BARNEY!!
November 8th, 2007 at 7:21 amAdd sexual orientation to the list of things you can’t get laid off (fired) for along with race, age, gender and religion. Yip Yip Yip Yahoo!
But you will still get laid off (fired) for none of the above reasons.
