“Congress on Thursday overturned President George W. Bush’s veto last week of a popular water projects bill, marking the first time Congress has mustered enough votes to override Bush.” The House of Representatives did the same on Tuesday ensuring the measure’s passage into law.
UPDATE: Veto overrides occur very rarely.
I guess the Repubs in Congress don’t mind bucking Bushco when it comes to funneling pork back home. Too bad they caved on SCHIP.
November 8th, 2007 at 1:28 pmSo just one time in 13 years congress does the right thing?
Now do it a second time and IMPEACH the WARCRIMINALS.

November 8th, 2007 at 1:30 pmTake *THAT*, Deciderboy!!
November 8th, 2007 at 1:31 pmVeto overturn by House on Tuesday and the sun still rose on Wednesday and Thursday. Veto overturn by Senate on Thursday. If the sun still rises on Friday and Saturday, maybe Congressional Republicans will recognize that its OK to overturn Bush’s vetoes. Shall we try again with SCHIP and cutting off funding the occupation of Iraq, then? Maybe, the sun will continue to rise, along with our country’s morality.
November 8th, 2007 at 1:33 pmDoes this preclude him from making a signing statement?
November 8th, 2007 at 1:37 pmI guess that means Congress is still relevant.
November 8th, 2007 at 1:38 pmNot a water projects bill, but actually more of a pork trough for everybody in Congress. That is why they overrode Bush’s veto.
November 8th, 2007 at 1:39 pmGeorge needs a vacation, say 14 months duration at crawford.
November 8th, 2007 at 1:41 pmOh, to be a fly on the wall of the Oval Office when the Deciderator got the news about his eminent Will being thwarted.
On second thought, he loves swatting flies, so maybe a moth on the drapes…?
November 8th, 2007 at 1:41 pmHey TP could you include the earmarks with this legislation?
November 8th, 2007 at 1:42 pmYAY!!!
November 8th, 2007 at 1:42 pmWONDERFUL ! I could care less what the Bill is just to let the decider know he isn’t the decider all the time. Bet he is toppling his hi chair over and throwing his Cheerios at the wall.
November 8th, 2007 at 1:45 pmWhile this may seem like a Dem Congress victory, you’ve actually handed the Reps ammunition to shoot you for out-of-control spending. The recent election this week shows that voters don’t want increased taxes, whether to support left or right agendas, and they absolutely hate pork barrel spending.

He doesn’t get a 2nd chance to sign it, veto overide means it is now law, Bush has no say….
November 8th, 2007 at 1:48 pmtexaslady > Bush vetoed the bill, because he wants every dollar in DC to go to Iraq only. Money allocated to Iraq gets skimmed into bank accounts of his cronies.

November 8th, 2007 at 1:52 pm#14 – Trying to remember reading that there is Budget for Defense or CIA that has no accountability, (well that is now almost all) however it is for funding of operations the public never knows about.

Thx Wayne.
November 8th, 2007 at 1:54 pmI think there is a definite change in the air in Washington. Last night on Lou Dobbs a Republican something from Texas was quite outspoken on by passing the White House and going directly to the Border Agents to close the border. He said working with the Sheriffs and Agents has already shown progress in lowering the crime in Laredo, Brownsville and Del Rio.
So maybe a few good Republicans are sensing the public is behind them and want a change.
November 8th, 2007 at 1:58 pmChimpy, October 17: “That’s why the president has a veto. Sometimes the legislative branch wants to go on without the president, pass pieces of legislation, and the president can then use the veto to make sure he’s a part of the process. And that’s what I fully intend to do. I’m going to make sure. And that’s why when I tell you I’m going to sprint to the finish, and finish this job strong, that’s one way to ensure that I am relevant. That’s one way to ensure that I’m in the process. And I intend to use the veto.”
Congress to Chimpy, November 8: Ha ha.
November 8th, 2007 at 2:01 pmThis gives Dumbya a 1-in-4 record of vetoes overridden. The only modern president who beats that is… NIXON! What a coincidence. Chimpy ties Tricky Dick’s disapproval rating record AND threatens his veto-override record in a single week!
If Congress can screw up their balls, pass a new SCHIP bill and then override the inevitable veto, we’ll have a new Worst. President. Ever.
Officially.

Read about the pork here some 3.2 billion. The house has shown restraint in pork but there is still some there. Like this:
November 8th, 2007 at 2:08 pmDavid Hobson (R-OH) got $1 million for Hydro Partners in Brazil and $2 million for NextEdge Technology Park.
Jeffy Lube is in for a rough ride tonight. Somebody’s going to act tough.
November 8th, 2007 at 2:08 pm#25 No Bushboy will just have to exercise more on his trike to let off all that steam. Has anyone else wondered how anything gets done ? He gets up early but then exercises for 2 hours..then a little work (stress on little) exercises some more..supper then bed by 9 P.M. Oh I forgot about the photo ops that usually the VP does.

never mind
texaslady > I used to work out a lot at the gym and if I was able to spend the hours Bush supposedly puts in, working out, then I would have a toned fab body. Look at Bush baby: he still has a beer belly and wimpy legs, so he lies about his workouts too.

Well, you now know what Bush’s next signing statement will be…
Can he add a statement at the time he vetoes a bill saying that if overridden, he can ignore the law.
November 8th, 2007 at 2:26 pmHey! Maybe we’ll get really lucky – and his head will explode!!!

Hoo-boy! That’s a good one, really, that is funny.
Those republics and their admonishments on out-of-control spending. Goodness, the disingenousness of such an argument staggers the mind on a day the national debt reaches $9 trillion.

Also, I am buying some pretzels right now and mailing them to the White House, maybe overnighting them.

And now you worry about spending after 12 [1994-2006] years of un-fiscal Republican spending andlack of budgets while the Bush war is fought off the books on supplementary bills?

[...] The recent election this week shows that voters don’t want increased taxes, whether to support left or right agendas, and they absolutely hate pork barrel spending.
Why is the dollar not worth shit anymore? Simple economics–
Democrats: Spend + Tax = surplus
Republicans: Spend + Cut Taxes = deficit
And what “election” are you speaking of? Any man or woman who refuses to pay due taxes to society, deserves to die a traitor’s death.

This is so dumb it deserves reprinting. “Voters hate pork barrel spending.” Righty-right. That makes a lot of sense. Legislators bring pork back to their districts just to p!ss people off! Who would have thought it?

November 8th, 2007 at 7:51 pmI’m no expert, but this all looks like window dressing. The democrats look like they’re doing their job, the republicans don’t look like rubber stamps, and Bush has received, in the grand sheme of things, an itsy-bitsy whooping. It’s perfect.
November 8th, 2007 at 8:41 pmIt’s about f*****g time (although really a case of too little too late) that this Congress finally started realizing that it still has teeth and can use them when they make up their minds to do it.
And dontcha just love the excuse which GWB gave for vetoing this legislation? He said that it was “too costly”. Funny how Bush seems to veto just about anything that might contribute to the health and well-being of the American people (that is, unless it panders to the Christian Right such as “abstinence-only” programs even though recent research shows that those don’t work) because they’re “too costly” while at the same time, borrowing money hand over fist and throwing good money after bad into what to all appearances can justifiably be called a “money pit” in Iraq even though rather significant amounts of money has gone missing in the past and can’t even be accounted for.

http://www.H2onE2.com Glacial Respiration, Conceptual Ring of Ice, The End of Linear Western Religion
A Geological Exploration of an E2 Earthen Planet And the H2 Human Species
Author: B Billy Marse, Professional Geologist
Brief Description:
http://www.H2onE2.com is an exploration of the universe, geology, climate, biology, humans, psychology, folklore and ancient structures to uncover the beginning and disclose the end of linear western religion. The true DaVinci Code behind the bible is not a supreme spiritual power but a scientific record of climate change described as Glacial Respiration. The Greek philosophers originated the practice of communicating a hidden idea or message in the short story format, as a metaphor. In the bible, metaphors conceal historic climate change within the fanciful stories. The theory of Glacial Respiration explains the myth behind the Holy Grail, structures such as the Great Pyramids, Stonehenge, Easter Island and is the knowledge that was collected in the Jewish Ark of the Covenant.
The environmental changes of Glacial Respiration determine all biological evolution and can explain why higher forms of intelligent humans developed. Further, Glacial Respiration releases the secret hidden by the Knights Templars, Masonic Order and all religions. Uncovers an advanced Blue-Blooded semi-industrial Atlantian Civilization that was built and destroyed many times over for the last million years. The book ends with an explanation of how linear western religion will be physically ended and describes the construction of the doomsday device capable of fulfilling its own self defining prophesy, “Revelationsâ€. H2onE2 is a mind-expanding experience that stimulates the soul, instinct, intellect and is an almanac to the past, present and future of humanity. Rise, awaken and evolve into H3 human consciousness.
The discovery:
November 9th, 2007 at 4:57 pmAs a Professional Geologist, I attempted to link the Dust Bowl/Great Depression to a pre-glacial condition or mechanism and ended up writing the book H2onE2. I felt that there was a strong connection between the Dust Bowl and transition back into Glacial Winter. I did notice that my professors scientifically crumbled every time I mentioned the relationship. I could not go back in time or locate indisputable proof. The proof came from understanding all educational disciplines including history and theology. I soon discovered that all religious text both eastern and western continually described significant climate change conditions relating to Glacial Respiration. For years I fought off mixing science and religion until I discovered that the origins of all religions were founded or created to help humans psychologically survive the harsh earthen environment. Without reason I soon accepted that the world’s complicated religions were the same. This came true and I continued to write and discover. Everything came into place as though I was unlocking a 10,000-year-old puzzle. I also realized this puzzle was opened before I discovered it, by someone else, some other group. If so, further understanding of this knowledge might be extracted from significant historical events. Lastly, this is the vital information needed to make future predictions.
