Poll: Iraq war opposition at all-time high.

New CNN poll released today finds:

Support for the war in Iraq has dropped to 31 percent and the 68 percent who oppose the war is a new record.

Despite the drop in violence in Iraq, only one quarter of Americans believes the U.S. is winning the war. There has been virtually no change in the past month in the number of Americans who believe that things are going badly for the U.S. in the war in Iraq.

The public also opposes U.S. military action against Iran. Sixty-three percent oppose air strikes on Iran, while 73 percent oppose using ground troops as well as air strikes in that country.

Overall, 56 percent, of Americans are dissatisfied with progress in the war on terrorism.

UPDATE:Kevin Drum has more analysis.

We have to stop calling this a “war” with some idea of “wining”. It’s an occupation. There was no declaration of war. There are no clear military objectives that would signify “wining”.

The sooner we all look at this in it’s proper context, the sooner the american public will see how much we’ve been had.

  5. A Patriot Acting says:

The American people are begining to see that casualty numbers aren’t as significant in determining success as our Dear Leader would have us believe. The facts are we’ve switched back (against the Iraqi gov’ts objections) to stepped up use of air power which may reduce American body count #’s but kill innocent civilians colaterally in FAR greater numbers. The cease fire ordered my Moktada al Sadr months ago has also gone a long way in propping up lower numbers. The surge has had little or nothing to do with these latest casualty/injured counts.

  6. toasterhead says:

The fact is 2007 has been the deadliest year for US troops since the start of the war.

    Thats the fact.

    The rest is all hype.

It all depends how you massage the statistics. If you only look at attacks in Anbar province by left-handed assailants that occurred during a full moon, troop deaths are way down.

But do you see the LIEberal media reporting that fact? Nooooooooo!

And to a lesser extent “whining.”

Excellent point, BATLEBEE. From every angle (except perhaps the view from Bushes lower bowel) there have been very little if any improvement on the ground since the surge was implemented.

I bet this percentage aligns nicely with the percentage who thought the moon landings were fake. Otherwise Buzz Aldrin would’ve brought crackers.

If your 52% support for an Iran strike came from the same CNN poll I would agree that the poll is bogus.

However, I can’t find any poll (CNN or anyone else) that shows a 52% support for any kind of attack against Iran — air or ground.

Please provide a link. It may be from a completely different poll where the question was worded quite differencly. Thanks!

Badmoodman must have been referring to that recent Zogby poll.

“A majority of likely voters – 52% – would support a U.S. military strike to prevent Iran from building a nuclear weapon, and 53% believe it is likely that the U.S. will be involved in a military strike against Iran before the next presidential election, a new Zogby America telephone poll shows.”

    http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1379

And as you can see it was worded quite “differently”, playing off people’s fears of nuclear weapons.

The poll was a Zogby poll released October 29. You are correct that it was worded quite differently.

“A majority of likely voters – 52% – would support a U.S. military strike to prevent Iran from building a nuclear weapon, and 53% believe it is likely that the U.S. will be involved in a military strike against Iran before the next presidential election, a new Zogby America telephone poll shows.”

53% BELIEVE it is likely the US will be involved. BELIEVE does not mean support, but it gets even better…

“Democrats (63%) are most likely to believe a U.S. military strike against Iran could take place in the relatively near future, but independents (51%) and Republicans (44%) are less likely to agree. Republicans, however, are much more likely to be supportive of a strike (71%), than Democrats (41%) or independents (44%). Younger likely voters are more likely than those who are older to say a strike is likely to happen before the election and women (58%) are more likely than men (48%) to say the same – but there is little difference in support for a U.S. strike against Iran among these groups.”

Again, 63% of Dems BELIEVE and 41% of Dems are likely to be supportive, while 71% of Repubs are supportive of a strike.

So TCDon, if Bush wakes up after his nappy and says that Jesus told him to bomb Canada that he should go ahead, even though 80% of Americans don’t agree with him?

And I figure a decision to nuke Canada would even turn another 5% of the 25% born agains against Boy George, hence the 80% number.

It will make no difference. Bush does as HE wants, not as the people want. He couldn’t care less. The plans for war and domination of the Middle East was set before 9/11 and has continued, on schedule, just as the neocons decided it must. Nothing will deter Bush with his sociopathic mentality. He has to be stopped before he kills more…. but he will not even be challenged.

  59. theagitator says:

shadow7……”The plans for war and domination of the Middle East was set before 9/11 and has continued, on schedule, just as the neocons decided it must.”

Therefore logically we can assume that 9-11 was the enabling act that permitted the neocon plans to progress. There has always been the under reported issue of a dotted line between all of this and Israel.

Predictions of the next 911 by a Professional Geologist.

http://www.H2onE2.com Glacial Respiration, Conceptual Ring of Ice, The End of Linear Western Religion
A Geological Exploration of an E2 Earthen Planet And the H2 Human Species
Author: B Billy Marse, Professional Geologist

    Brief Description:
http://www.H2onE2.com is an exploration of the universe, geology, climate, biology, humans, psychology, folklore and ancient structures to uncover the beginning and disclose the end of linear western religion. The true DaVinci Code behind the bible is not a supreme spiritual power but a scientific record of climate change described as Glacial Respiration. The Greek philosophers originated the practice of communicating a hidden idea or message in the short story format, as a metaphor. In the bible, metaphors conceal historic climate change within the fanciful stories. The theory of Glacial Respiration explains the myth behind the Holy Grail, structures such as the Great Pyramids, Stonehenge, Easter Island and is the knowledge that was collected in the Jewish Ark of the Covenant.
The environmental changes of Glacial Respiration determine all biological evolution and can explain why higher forms of intelligent humans developed. Further, Glacial Respiration releases the secret hidden by the Knights Templars, Masonic Order and all religions. Uncovers an advanced Blue-Blooded semi-industrial Atlantian Civilization that was built and destroyed many times over for the last million years. The book ends with an explanation of how linear western religion will be physically ended and describes the construction of the doomsday device capable of fulfilling its own self defining prophesy, “Revelations”. H2onE2 is a mind-expanding experience that stimulates the soul, instinct, intellect and is an almanac to the past, present and future of humanity. Rise, awaken and evolve into H3 human consciousness.

    The discovery:
As a Professional Geologist, I attempted to link the Dust Bowl/Great Depression to a pre-glacial condition or mechanism and ended up writing the book H2onE2. I felt that there was a strong connection between the Dust Bowl and transition back into Glacial Winter. I did notice that my professors scientifically crumbled every time I mentioned the relationship. I could not go back in time or locate indisputable proof. The proof came from understanding all educational disciplines including history and theology. I soon discovered that all religious text both eastern and western continually described significant climate change conditions relating to Glacial Respiration. For years I fought off mixing science and religion until I discovered that the origins of all religions were founded or created to help humans psychologically survive the harsh earthen environment. Without reason I soon accepted that the world’s complicated religions were the same. This came true and I continued to write and discover. Everything came into place as though I was unlocking a 10,000-year-old puzzle. I also realized this puzzle was opened before I discovered it, by someone else, some other group. If so, further understanding of this knowledge might be extracted from significant historical events. Lastly, this is the vital information needed to make future predictions.
