Bush Sr. Attacks Iraq Regime Change Critics, Earlier Warned Of ‘Incalculable Human And Political Costs’

bushIn an interview with USA Today, President George H.W. Bush sticks up for his son’s disastrous decision to go to war in Iraq, attacking Iraq war critics as defenders of Saddam’s regime:

“Do they want to bring back Saddam Hussein, these critics?” the elder Bush told USA TODAY in a rare interview. “Do they want to go back to the status quo ante? I don’t know what they are talking about here. Do they think life would be better in the Middle East if Saddam were still there?

Bush Sr.’s disingenuous attempts to paint Iraq war critics as coddlers of Saddam Hussein are an insult to his own intelligence. After all, Bush Sr. has offered the most cogent explanations for why regime change was a poor strategic decision. In his book, A World Transformed, Bush Sr. argued “incalculable human and political costs would have resulted from an Iraq invasion in 1991:

“Incalculable human and political costs” would have been the result, the senior Bush has said, if his administration had pushed all the way to Baghdad and sought to overthrow Saddam Hussein after the U.S.-led coalition ousted the Iraqi army from Kuwait during the Persian Gulf war in 1991. “We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect rule Iraq,” Bush wrote.

“The coalition would have instantly collapsed. … Going in and thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations mandate would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression we hoped to establish. “Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land. It would have been a dramatically different – and perhaps barren – outcome.”

In 1996, Bush Sr. wrote, “Removing [Saddam] from power might well have plunged Iraq into civil war, sucking U.S. forces in to preserve order. Had we elected to march on Baghdad, our forces might still be there.”

In Jan. 1996, Bush delivered an eloquent speech, arguing the “reason we didn’t go after Saddam is that our forces could well have bogged down in an urban guerrilla conflict in the streets of Baghdad.” “We would have instantly handed Saddam a victory out of the jaws of a humiliating defeat,” he said.

USA Today reports, “Bush dismissed a question about whether his son should have used similar reasoning before invading Iraq in 2003.” The Iraq war has validated Bush 41’s original concerns about an Iraq war. By now covering for his son’s failures, Bush Sr. is only serving to undermine his own record.

It couldn’t possibly be worse. At least with Saddam they had power, water, food and an educational system. With Saddam they could walk down a street without the threat of being blown away by an insurgent or a mercenary.

A recent poll showed that a majority of the people in Iraq would rather live under Saddam’s regime than to be occupied by the United States.

Saddam has another 10 years of violating U.N. decrees and ignoring world opinion under his belt. His sons had come into their own as tyrants who would have assumed the throne.

So what, they were weak, and they were contained. They were also to a large degree, our creation. We also had a bigger problem that we should have been focusing on. bin Laden. Remember him?

Getting rid of all of them was the right thing to do. A solution that needed to be.

No, he was contained. It was an optional war. And the result has been a disaster.

Victory is at hand, people. Recognize that you were wrong to side with our enemies against the United States.

America, the place where immigrants from all over the world could come and find a refuge from repression, murder and political intimidation.

America, where the middle class was alive and well and secured peace for more than sixty years.

America, where if anyone came here and said anything disparaging about us, we’d say, it’s not true, it’s not true, take it back!

America, where you’d hear people say, this is the greatest country on earth, and wouldn’t hesitate to agree.

America, where after 9/11 the world, including Iran mourned for all those innocent people.

America, where we squandered the good will of the world and became a country resembling a fearful, paralyzed, reactionary dictatorship, and lost the good will of the world, our moral high ground and any semblence of a strong, fearless, hopeful nation.

Poppy Bush is in denial about his first-born.

Don’t expect Poppy to admit that he and Barb raised the Georgie Boy very poorly, catering to him to such an extent that the little moron — who failed at everything he ever tried — is completely delusional about himself and the world around him.

41 and Barb raised a sociopath. Now we have to deal with the result of their miserable parental skills.

Poppy Bush can thunder all he wants. It won’t change one iota to the fact that he raised, nurtured, aided, and abetted, someone who is clearly mentally unstable, of low intelligence and intellectual curiosity, and who is totally unfit to deal with the realities of today’s world unless he can be the dictator of that world.

Poppy Bush’s first born is at best a moron, in the sense that his I.Q. is below 100. At worst, he is a nasty little tinpot dictator. I tend to believe the latter. Fortunately, tinpot dictators tend to be thrown out of office at some point or another. So, there is hope.

  68. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

It’s similar to the problem with European royalty. The Bush clan represents American aristocracy. Bush was the 17th legacy from his family to attend Yale. Daddy Bush will be doing alot more crying and lying for his idiot baby son George. The plan Daddy Bush had in 1996 has back fired because the Middle East Leaders were smarter and played the old man for the fool he is. Yes Americans watched the GOP try to bring down Bill Clinton and put their plan in action. Americans fell for all of it hook line and sinker. But the Middle East Leaders had already done their homework and knew baby George was a true idiot. Yes Cheney is a criminal and would steal the gold tooth out of a family members mouth. So they studied the GOP idiots carefully and laid out their own plan to destroy the US. As we see today our US economy is in 9 trillion dollar debt, our soldiers are left out with no safe equipment, health care or jobs. We see our brave soldiers as homeless but we do nothing about it.
Sup prime is just one of the many crimes the GOP have committed over the past 7 years. Daddy Bush now has to save his baby son not only from indictment in the US but also an International indictment of War Crimes. When Cheney is charged he will use his health condition as an excuse. Even those GOP Law Makers who are resigning and not running for re-election got their stolen money and put it in off shore accounts.

http://www.H2onE2.com Glacial Respiration, Conceptual Ring of Ice, The End of Linear Western Religion
A Geological Exploration of an E2 Earthen Planet And the H2 Human Species
Author: B Billy Marse, Professional Geologist

    Brief Description:
http://www.H2onE2.com is an exploration of the universe, geology, climate, biology, humans, psychology, folklore and ancient structures to uncover the beginning and disclose the end of linear western religion. The true DaVinci Code behind the bible is not a supreme spiritual power but a scientific record of climate change described as Glacial Respiration. The Greek philosophers originated the practice of communicating a hidden idea or message in the short story format, as a metaphor. In the bible, metaphors conceal historic climate change within the fanciful stories. The theory of Glacial Respiration explains the myth behind the Holy Grail, structures such as the Great Pyramids, Stonehenge, Easter Island and is the knowledge that was collected in the Jewish Ark of the Covenant.
The environmental changes of Glacial Respiration determine all biological evolution and can explain why higher forms of intelligent humans developed. Further, Glacial Respiration releases the secret hidden by the Knights Templars, Masonic Order and all religions. Uncovers an advanced Blue-Blooded semi-industrial Atlantian Civilization that was built and destroyed many times over for the last million years. The book ends with an explanation of how linear western religion will be physically ended and describes the construction of the doomsday device capable of fulfilling its own self defining prophesy, “Revelations”. H2onE2 is a mind-expanding experience that stimulates the soul, instinct, intellect and is an almanac to the past, present and future of humanity. Rise, awaken and evolve into H3 human consciousness.

    The discovery:
As a Professional Geologist, I attempted to link the Dust Bowl/Great Depression to a pre-glacial condition or mechanism and ended up writing the book H2onE2. I felt that there was a strong connection between the Dust Bowl and transition back into Glacial Winter. I did notice that my professors scientifically crumbled every time I mentioned the relationship. I could not go back in time or locate indisputable proof. The proof came from understanding all educational disciplines including history and theology. I soon discovered that all religious text both eastern and western continually described significant climate change conditions relating to Glacial Respiration. For years I fought off mixing science and religion until I discovered that the origins of all religions were founded or created to help humans psychologically survive the harsh earthen environment. Without reason I soon accepted that the world’s complicated religions were the same. This came true and I continued to write and discover. Everything came into place as though I was unlocking a 10,000-year-old puzzle. I also realized this puzzle was opened before I discovered it, by someone else, some other group. If so, further understanding of this knowledge might be extracted from significant historical events. Lastly, this is the vital information needed to make future predictions.

    >Saddam has another 10 years of violating U.N. decrees and ignoring >world opinion under his belt.

So did Israel. So what? Lets face it, all that changed it saddam decided to invade one tiny country we didnt tell him to. Thats it. The only WMD he had was the stuff we gave him to use on other people. THe irony of that escapes bufoons like you. The fact dick cheney very accuratelly predicted what would happen if you invaded iraq over 10 years ago, then seemed to forget everything he said also escapes you to. Let me guess, 9-11 changed everything, including the laws of physics and human psychology?

#87-RCJR: And I say thank god that any future Jeb may have had politically has been ruined by his brother. We have one thing then to thank Georgie W. for.

  84. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

Tender: “They’d be smart to run to South America and go into hiding like the Nazi-cowards did after World War II.”

Well, he did recently purchase a 100,000 acre ranch in northwest Paraguay and the government of Paraguay did recently enact a law saying people within its borders were not subject to rulings by the World Court – just a coincidence I’m sure, but that ranch may represent Bush’s worst-case end-game.

  85. Tender Chicken says:

#92-RCJR: That doesn’t sound coincidental. That sounds like it’s by design. Amazing. Someone in Paraguay got bought. Better them than us.

  86. Iain says:

Y’all know old 41 is getting an aircraft carrier named after him right? I had been racking my brain trying to figure out how the hell he deserved it. Then I remembered whose administration was doing the naming. Oh yeah!!! Had to put myself in the “DUH!” column for the duration.

This is what inbreeding brings us, folks. When your “leadership” derives in its entirety from less than one percent of the gene pool (the richest but probably the most worthless one percent in terms of anything but bucks), GW is a perfect example of what you’re gonna get in place of leaders.

All the people want is an apology from the left for undermining the efforts of the United States. We are a forgiving people.

What fantasy world are you living in? You, of the 24%ers. This post of yours is so far outside the bounds of reality it boggles the mind! An apology??? You are as insane as your megalomaniac leader, “W”.

Don’t confuse kindness with weakness, however.

What ever are you babbling about? Kindness??? First you have to be sane to know what kindness means. Weakness??? You aren’t weak! You are crazy. Go back to LG Footfungus and cavort with your kind.

  89. Merlin says:

41 has, it seems, a wonderful reputation here amongst the powerful and the media. The all knowing father. Hero of WWII. President who “did it right” in Iraq, and who was threatened with death (and who we “rightly” must avenge). Yet the dirty side of his ledger is huge. CIA chief to pardoner of the Iran Contra criminals and a lot in between.

Should we believe, or even pay attention to, anything this terrible man says? And what would we expect his children to be? After all, he set their (personal) example and groomed them after his image. All with the help of that paragon of “goodness,” his wife. (And as it is generally understood, mother sets the childs course in life, while father shows him how to do it.)

From “Bush on the Couch” by psychiatrist Justin Frank:

“Referred to by her children as “The Enforcer,” Barbara Bush has by her own admission always been the family disciplinarian. She was, from most accounts, a cold taskmaster, and she spanked the children readily. Called “the one who instills fear” by a close family friend, she would boldly break up fights between her sons, “bust them up and slap them around,” according to a brother-in-law.”

“the one who instills fear”! And “W” learned his lesson well. Instilling fear and punishing any one who doesn’t agree with his “god driven mission” in life. Yup, par for the course.

Keep flappin’ your gums, 41, you useless failure of a father. It won’t help.

Anybody know how long this man’s been dead?

And why hasn’t anybody told him yet?

  92. nellre says:

Saddam was a monster, but his most monstrous deeds occurred in the late 80s. If we really think it’s our job to rid the world of monsters, why wait 15 years?

It’s endemic… failure to take responsibility, blame the other guy.
We Americans stood there and watch GWB destroy the principles on which America stands. I have seen the enemy and he is us.

  93. cal1942 says:

““Do they want to bring back Saddam Hussein, these critics?”

That kind of asinine statement destroys any possibility for rational discussion of public policy. This is the type of statement that Republicans have thrived upon for the last 3 decades and part of the reason why stupid, catastrphic public policy is the norm rather than the exception.

  94. cal1942 says:

“This is what inbreeding brings us, folks. When your “leadership” derives in its entirety from less than one percent of the gene pool ”

    From comment 94 by Iain

I believe that Iain is seriously right. The very rich and old money rich breed only within their class. This small group is too limited to produce anything but rubbish. Weaknesses are magnified and strengths distorted.

Think of the gene pool that produced Richard Mellon-Scaife, the drunken half-wit who actually thought that Goldwater would win in ‘64 in a landslide.
