I believe that Iain is seriously right. The very rich and old money rich breed only within their class. This small group is too limited to produce anything but rubbish. Weaknesses are magnified and strengths distorted.

Think of the gene pool that produced Richard Mellon-Scaife, the drunken half-wit who actually thought that Goldwater would win in ‘64 in a landslide.

That kind of asinine statement destroys any possibility for rational discussion of public policy. This is the type of statement that Republicans have thrived upon for the last 3 decades and part of the reason why stupid, catastrphic public policy is the norm rather than the exception.

It’s endemic… failure to take responsibility, blame the other guy.
