A new study by Physicians for Social Responsibility, which shared the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize, predicts that “healthcare for Iraq veterans could top $650 billion, another warning of a looming social crisis as thousands of veterans struggle with mental and physical disabilities and other disruptions to family life.” More on the challenges faced by veterans in today’s Progress Report.
Many vets are also homeless because of the dbilitating effects of war.
November 9th, 2007 at 5:09 pmgood thing republicans support our troops….
(crickets)
November 9th, 2007 at 5:09 pmWhen Bush leaves office, he is not going to think about the soldiers one bit. He uses them as props and warriors – that is it. The brave soldiers have an idiot as CIC. they all deserve better than Bush.
November 9th, 2007 at 5:09 pmWhat Republicans say: “Support the Troops”.
What Republicans think: “Support the troops until they get discharged, then let them fend for themselves. Paying for their care after they’re out of the military is tatamount to SOCIALISM and cannot be tolerated”.
F’ing chickenhawk cowards.
November 9th, 2007 at 5:15 pmIraq has no worries Bush/Cheney will make sure all the men/women/children of Iraq get health care provided by the United States. Yes most of our money has gone to Iraq anyway so this should be no problem.
The GOP Law Makers will be fully behind the bill for
complete health care for the Iraq people. Yes the Dems might object but GOP have the votes and the American people support anything Bush/Cheney require. Should Iraq need anything all they need to do
as ask the US will be there to help.
Our troops have no medical care nor do the American
November 9th, 2007 at 5:18 pmchildren have Health Care but that’s really not as important as the Iraq people.
Paraguay might be a safer place for the architect of this human nightmare to retire to.
November 9th, 2007 at 5:21 pmApproximately 1 out of 4 homeless people in America are Vets. How pathetic is that? You can judge how good a nation is by reviewing how that nation cares for its elderly, its young people, and its veterans. We have a lot of work to do here in America.
November 9th, 2007 at 5:22 pmRepublicans only care about soldiers when they can use them as props and backdrops for their speeches.

Republican trolls care about soldiers so they can whine about how progressives hate soldiers. Other than that, I’ve got an important career and a cyst on my butt . . .
Oh, I’m sure China will pay for it, just like they have paid for the war. Aren’t they a bottomless well we can draw from? And don’t we have unlimited credit? And can’t we raise our debt ceiling whenever we want to? So what’s the problem?
/sarc off
November 9th, 2007 at 5:46 pmHow typical of non-fiscally responsible Bush to either underestimate this veteran healthcare item or to not even report it as part of the “cost of the Iraq War”. Doesn’t everyone wish they could do their personal accounting according to the “Bush method”?? If we did, we’d all be personally bankrupt.
November 9th, 2007 at 5:49 pmWhy do the troop’s brains hate the troops?
November 9th, 2007 at 6:02 pmThere weren’t supposed to be any casualties, except for flying chocolate bruises and flower inhalation allergies.
November 9th, 2007 at 6:06 pmWe haven’t done well by the veterans of Vietnam who still suffer and we continue to neglect those of Iraq and Afghanistan, eprhaps we’ll do better by the veterans who serve in Iran and elsewhere in the insane Neo-cons -promoted WWIII! What a disgrace our treatment of our veterans represents!
November 9th, 2007 at 6:07 pmIs that $650 billion taking into acount the next 10 years of fighting there that Patreus predicts…
Oh wait! I forgot, O. Bigfoot told us today that “Victory is at hand”
November 9th, 2007 at 6:14 pmHehe, I forgot about that… nothing to worry about then I guess…
I am so very ashamed of Bush’s America….
November 9th, 2007 at 6:26 pmPhysicians for Social Responsibility, which shared the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize
Well, obviously, since this group won an award that was also given to “Algore” and Yassir Arafat, then they obviously want the Islamofascists to win…
November 9th, 2007 at 6:27 pmThe good thing is that nobody gets hit when shooting rounds in PlayStation.
November 9th, 2007 at 6:49 pmNot to mention that two of the worst crimes in the last 20 years were committed by veterans of the first Iraq war.
DC Sniper and Oklahoma city bombing.
God only knows what we have in store.

You know, I hadn’t even considered this, but it is true. There were an enormous number of issues for Vietnam vets, many of which took years to manifest themselves. We’ll be seeing the results of the trauma of the Iraq wars for decades.

why do you hate our veterrans?
November 9th, 2007 at 8:24 pmAnd how much the figure will be if Iran war is added to the final tally?!!
November 9th, 2007 at 9:39 pmI’m from the government, and I’m here to help.

November 9th, 2007 at 10:56 pmThe deficit is is said to be 9 trillion but if you factor in money for unforseen costs its 53 TRILLION.
CaN YOU SAY GREAT-GREAT-GREAT GRANDCHILDREN
Oh yea thats if the planets still inhabitable!!!!!
November 9th, 2007 at 11:01 pmKinda hard to obtain and hold down a job when you have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
For a man, wife, and two children, their share of our $9 Trilllion debt is $120,000 (plus interest). Kinda hard to save that amount when you earn $7 an hour, you have zero benefits, rent is $900 per month, health insurance is $1,000 per month, and gas is $3.59 per gallon.
November 9th, 2007 at 11:44 pmAnd what is the price of Iraqi civilian shock and awe? In american dollars it must be trillions. But they don’t mean anything, right.
November 10th, 2007 at 9:17 amDebbie Wassermann Schultz on Impeachment:
“…when what we should be focusing on are… our efforts on expanding the Democratic majority and electing a Democratic President.â€
Let’s remind her that soldiers are dying and Cheney is looking to attack Another Country Illegally! Now is not the time to play partisan politcs!

November 10th, 2007 at 9:38 amaccording to micheal, they should have had better judgement than to get injured or sick unless they purchased their own private insurance.
cost of war? heck, what does that matter? no amount of money or american blood is too much for the trolls to spend on giving the iraqis the right to democratically choose to be as much like Iran as they want..
