Bush Records Back-To-Back Interviews For Fox News And Fox Business Channel

bush-on-fox4.jpg Yesterday, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino held a news briefing aboard Air Force One where she went over President Bush’s media schedule. His two upcoming appearances? Fox News and Fox Business Channel. From the briefing:

PERINO: Okay, a couple of scheduling updates for you before we take off, back to Washington, D.C.

The President on his ranch this morning had an interview with Bret Baier of FOX News, for a documentary that Bret is producing for January, that will run in January.

QUESTION: Isn’t there a FOX thing tomorrow that —

PERINO: The FOX Business Channel interview is happening tomorrow. It was rescheduled from — it was supposed to happen the day the President went to California. The President wasn’t supposed to go to California that day; we just had to reschedule the event, so that interview is on for tomorrow.

QUESTION: Oh, okay, it’s different.

PERINO: It’s different, yes. Bret’s interview won’t air until January. That’s a separate channel.

With 64 percent of the American public unhappy with the job he is doing, Bush is sticking to friendly media. In September, the White House cherry-picked NPR’s Juan Williams — who is also a Fox News contributor — to conduct an exclusive interview. When NPR insisted that someone other than Williams interview the President, the White House backed out. “[W]e’re grateful for the opportunity to talk to the president but we wanted to determine who did the interview,” said NPR.

Bush’s father, George H.W., also recently appeared on Fox News and said that when he watches TV news, he tends to “turn on the Fox.” Vice President Cheney requires that all televisions in his hotel room be turned to Fox News whenever he travels and in 2004, he told “a conference call” of “tens of thousands of Republicans” that he ends up “spending a lot of time watching Fox News.”

Anyone who thinks Bushco is “conservative” is either blind or stupid.

On a related note; why does Cheney watch Faux News? Is he checking to make sure they aren’t rewriting his material?

  11. Starve-A-Bush_Feed-A-Beaver says:

Bush is not talking to the American people. He’s making it clear that he’s the President of a narrow group of people on the extreme right. This is no Statesman. This is no President. Bush is and has always been just a local politician and has never been able to bring himself to fill the role of the nation’s Chief Executive representing all the People.

  12. StratRat says:

If you could envision only one lousy habit concerning this administration, IMHO this would be it. With a 24% approval rating and more Americans turning away from his policies, where does Bush go to explain himself: Fox News. Where does Cheney go: Fox News. Bush 41: Fox News. Only Fox News. The one channel nobody repsects.

Maybe one of our resident trolls could help us understand why the movers and shakers of our present disaster look only to Fox News as an outlet.

If the president actually cared what the ‘normal’ American thought – and if he cared whom he spoke to – he would make himself available for all major news outlets willing to interview him. He obviously distrusts reputable news channels, so he limits his exposure to the softball world of Fox.

I see that Bush enjoys being in a nice fuzzy comfort zone cocoon. Hey, so do I when I’m having a bad day — nothing like shutting out the world and cozying up to a fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa and a good novel.

I worry though, when the person wrapped in the cocoon is A) supposed to be running the country, and B) isn’t just having a bad day, but having a bad several years. One should not remain detached from reality for extended periods of time.

  18. hellinabucket says:

Roger Roger, I’d like the president to make himself available to all the networks so a variety of questions can be asked. Fox does not reflect the views of all america so it goes to reason that if he truly wanted to lead all of america he would answer to all of america.

I guess if you are looking at the world from the far right, any middle of the road entity will appear to be “far left”.

I don’t see either MSNBC or CNN to be “against conservatism” — after all, MSNBC has Tucker Carlson and CNN has Glenn Beck (hardly liberals). I do see that both networks have a greater news to commentary ratio than Fox News does, and both networks offer their news stories from a variety of angles.

I think what you’re trying to say instead of “they are completely against conservatism,” is “they are completely against blindly toeing the neocon line, so why should Bush take the risk of an interview where he might be asked a hard question?”

The only way Jesus would be invited on Faux News is the coverage of his second crucifixion. Our “Christian conservatives” would be busy nailing the poor, gentle, soul to a cross as soon as he opened his mouth.

Haven’t you heard? “Peace” and “love” are anti-American and only serve to “embolden our enemies”.

Actually this is how the Republicans want it. As long as they can brainwash their brethren, they are fine with it. They don’t want the Republicans to start doing their own research and figure out what is really going on out there in the nation and the world. If they did that, then they would leave the Republican party like the people I know who were once Republicans before Bush.

Well, this is how they communicate to their demographic — people who are happy to be uninformed, don’t care what goes on in their world, and just want to see a constant succession of pretty shiny things.
