Top “U.S. forecaster” Guy Caruso, head of the Energy Information Administration, “expects gas prices to jump another 20 cents a gallon by December.” National gas prices currently average $3.105 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, compared to $2.22 a gallon at this time last year.
A jump in gas prices in itself is the result of a complicated set of factors – from regulated availability to profit taking. In general, the market should sort this out, and the Govt. should stay out. That would mean the following:
1) As the cost of oil goes up, the investment and take up of alternative technologies will grow
2) If alternative technologies don’t deliver, or if the costs are deemed impractical, we should retain the option to extend our way of life through influencing relevant nations to abide (read strong arm tactics)
3) Either way, we should optimize to our existence and our way of life

November 13th, 2007 at 10:06 amI just flagged $hits here. I suggest all of you do too, and perhaps admin will just get RID of this nitwit.

November 13th, 2007 at 10:08 amLet’s do our own switcheroo: I see that Diane Feinstein is being censured by the Dem Party – guess she drank Bush’s Kool-Aid on board Air Force 1 recently?? Let’s throw her skanky butt out of Congress now! Either that or out her husband’s questionable business practices….
November 13th, 2007 at 10:09 amFlag every last f-in’ comment $hits makes and eventually Admin will get rid of it.
Mornin’, Veritas.
November 13th, 2007 at 10:09 amHmmm,
Wasn’t the Iraq war going to ‘pay for itself’ with reduced oil prices?
Oil does not belong on the commodity market. These prices fuel more speculation than cars. Was it Exxon lamenting the fact they didn’t meet earnings expectations last quarter and came in at a measly $4.9 Billion?
Alternative energy infrastructure won’t be complete until big oil owns it. They’ve held up every new option because they can’t monopolize wind & sun. But, they can monopolize the distribution grid, refineries, shipping and the technology.
Big Oil. Doing to you what Larry Craig & Mark Foley would like to.
November 13th, 2007 at 10:10 amWonder what Feinstein’s monetary “payoff” was for her votes?? One can only imagine…..
November 13th, 2007 at 10:10 amEither that or out her husband’s questionable business practices….

Yes, indeed. I’ve had enough of Feinstein – a true DINO.
November 13th, 2007 at 10:10 ampure coincidence
just because all of the people who supported Bush and Cheney are the people who are most likely to benefit from increasing costs is pure coincidence
nothing to see here
move along
November 13th, 2007 at 10:10 amZimzone: Another Bush lie! Everything Bush has touched has turned to $hit.
November 13th, 2007 at 10:11 am$3.105 a gallon?
See, here’s what we need to do.
We need to set up some sort of “computer program” that takes that extra .5 of a cent per gallon and “rounds it down” into a high-yield bank account. With millions of gasoline transactions per day, it’d add up really quickly and we’d be able to pay off the national debt in a decade!
November 13th, 2007 at 10:12 amTRoS: I can’t recall what it was that I read recently about Diane but I believe it had something to do with her attendance at a recent AIPAC meeting, along with Hillary. Is it so?
November 13th, 2007 at 10:12 amBINGO!!!
November 13th, 2007 at 10:12 amHi Toaster! Good idea – maybe a better idea is for those of us who can boycott the gas should do so.
November 13th, 2007 at 10:13 am‘Morn’n, Veritas.
Feinstein’s being censured?
Please, do tell!
After her & Schumer caved in for Mukasey, we need to look at what her perceived ‘mission’ is.

I’m fine with “them” owning the alternative energy sector, so long as their/our interests don’t lead to more wars and continued destruction of the environment – but I’m not that naive either.
November 13th, 2007 at 10:15 amDon’t know if you’re being serious of not… but I’ll just guess that you are and say that
A) What if our “way of life” is unsustainable? Sometimes the way things live lead to their demise. Seems like your saying that our way of life should remain unquestioned.
2) The market sorts things out to the benefit of the market, not necessarily to OUR benefit. Are you pretending there’s some magical market force completely free of power and political relations that holds the quasi-magical properties that we should worship and not try to change? Another thing we shouldn’t question?
III) “we should optimize our existence”?? Are you sure about that one? You sure we don’t want to not optimize it? Should we also drink water every day?

That’s the problem – right now the big corporations’ push into alternative energy is making things much worse. Now they’re slash-and-burning Indonesian peat forest to plant palm trees for biofuel.
November 13th, 2007 at 10:20 amThe somewhat bottom line is that this country condones torture, spying on it’s citizens, blanket immunity for the illegal actions of corporations, the removal of habeas corpus and holding people indefinitely without representation or even charging them with a crime, while they are tortured. Not to mention propagating illegal invasions of other countries with lies subsequently killing thousands of their own military personnel, hundreds of thousands of civilians of the invaded country while plunging their own country into debt at a level never before seen.
November 13th, 2007 at 10:21 amFor those people who think who they vote for is going to make a difference.
It’s past time to wake up and see what your country does and what it currently stands for.
It has changed and it’s a million miles from what it used to be. We are a generation that has seen what this country does for our whole lives and been fed the finely tuned propaganda the whole time. Most have failed to recognize it for what it is. We cling to the hope that our government is not corrupt and that there is a chance of electing those who can turn it around.
Here’s some news:
It does not matter who is in office.
This country is a War Machine, pure and simple.
Which is exactly why ‘impeachment is off the table’ and this criminal admin. gets whatever they ask for.
There are way’s to slow this madness down…..It is painful but it will work..Restrict your own driving and use…Cut back on all but necessary driving..Rearange your schedules, do your shopping on the way to or home from work..Pick one day a month to do all your errand’s, bill paying and necessary shopping…..Stay at home with your family and take the key’s to the car’s away from each user..Start car pooling and riding the bus….If every family reduced their driving and consumption by 1 tank of gas per month soon there would be a surplus and the price would crash..
How soon we forget the lie’s and madness of the 70’s..The forced shortage’s and waiting in line, odd or even plate number’s on certain day’s…It was a lie then and a bigger lie now…
It is true oil will not last forever, so wean your selves off now..Start a massive conservation effort in your own home’s…Freedom is not allowing them to hold us hostage….Blessings

I remember something to that effect too, but can’t recall the source or details. I’m just sick of Feinstein pretending she’s a progressive while she constantly backs big business endlessly. I’m in her district and I remember when she was mayor of SF. She never saw a development proposal from her hubby’s big biz friends she didn’t like.
She’s also backing immunity for the telecomms because, get this, “they shouldn’t be burdened w/ the cost of the lawsuits”.
Sheez!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!! If I break the law, can I plead the same nonsense, Diane?
November 13th, 2007 at 10:30 amDamnit, I’m already paying 3.42/gallon for gas. This is getting totally out of control.
November 13th, 2007 at 10:35 amand… they don’t see prices dropping back until the middle of next year. Hmmmm. Prices dropping in the middle of the peak driving period again. Must be an election year.
November 13th, 2007 at 10:45 amGas here is already $3.20 per gallon. 20 cents more?
Jesus christ…

It is a rip off, we are being raped by the Oil companies and GW666 and Darth Dick are laughing all the way to the bank.
Please people, quit responding to (s)hits, it is destroying this site.
