As if there ever was a journalist at Fox...

Furthermore, there is no "far-left" in the USA - the country has veered so far to the right that what it calls the "left" is right-of-center and what it calls the "far-left" is center everywhere else.

I left this comment on the CarpetBagger as well...but I almost went through the roof of my car this morning when I heard this, so it bears repeating (for me, at any rate):
Mr Journalist Juan Williams on NPR Morning edition this morning "<em> I know that there has been questions raised about whether the Clinton campaign has already been sending messages to CNN and to Blitzer to say '<strong>you know, you have to be impartial</strong>'"</em>
Apparently, yesterdays debunking of this rumor and Wolf's denial didn't reach his ears since he was too busy hanging out with the real journalists on Fox News Channel
Drives me nuts to hear him lecturing others on what journalism is

So in order to "balance" out a liberal blogger writing editorials, they hire Bush's former mouthpiece and propagandist? I take it they couldn't find any intelligent people who would defend Bush that WEREN'T on the Bush payroll.

The fact that they would equate an independant liberal blogger with a paid Bush shill is mind boggling.

“Whether one agrees or disagrees with Karl, there is no arguing that he has been a critical player in the political world with insights and experiences that we think will give our readers something unique.”

I have two words to say about that:

Roy. Cohn.

Meanwhile I have a prediction I'd like to share. I hope someone remembers this when it happens, because my prediction is so sure, it almost feels preordained. At some point. Rove is going to say something so monumentally false, Markos will have no moral option but to call him on it. Newsweek will hem and haw about honoring Markos’ content, Markos will then spill the backstage drama over at Dailykos, and Newsweek will conveniently let him go. They will claim they don’t allow their journalists or columnists to denigrate their other jornalists or columnists anywhere in public, even if it’s the journalist/columnist’s own blog. It’ll all be a load of nonsense, but it will be a deliberate attempt to make Markos, and by extension the blogging/netroots community, look like petulant WATBs. Then, adding insult to injury, in order to restore “balance,” they will hire a supposedly progressive columnist at least 27 steps to the right of Markos. How un-Marloslike will this new columnist be? If we’re lucky(!) it’ll be Alan Colmes or someone of his ilk.

Markos will write his own column.

Karl Rove will have an assistant do it.

Newsweek knows full well that they're getting one seasoned political writer and one nameless intern.

The management of Newsweek knew before the 2004 election that the President was lying about the Plame affair and that Karl Rove had disclosed her occupation to one of their correspondents. They evidently didn't think that the voting public needed to know this before making an informed voting decision.

That's all you need to know about the trustworthiness and honor of the publication known as Newsweek.

toasterhead: "I’ve always thought of Williams as an NPR conservative rather than a Fox liberal. All perspective, I guess."

Who would be the NPR liberals? Mara Lisson, who goes on FOX and argues that Democrats are creeps, or Gwen Ifill, who goes to barbecues at her good friend Condi Rice's house and then lobs her big fat softballs in interviews?

As revolting it will be to see Rove's name in my Newsweek magazine, I am taking some consolation in a couple of things:
Markos Moulitsas is a force to be dealt with; he is smart, his ideas are cogent, and he can write well.
Karl Rove already has a reputation of dubious distinction; no doubt he is smart, but people know he is cunning and devious. I think his words will be read through a prism of skepticism, whereas Kos is open.

Kos has been called an effeminate liberal, so he is being set-up by Newsweek to make liberals/progressives appear as pansies. Pudgy Rove will be played up as a fabulous dignified guy and not Bush’s turdblossom.

Comment by Jay Randal — November 15, 2007 @ 4:10 pm

If Newsweek wants to display a bias by setting up Markos to look bad and Rove to look good (and so far there isn't any evidence they plan to do this), let 'em.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. And the proof of the punditry is in the writing. It will be the ideas that matter in the end.

Rove got his guy into the White House twice, Markos backed Nerd Lament. Who’s the genius?

Comment by Beefeater — November 15, 2007 @ 4:23 pm

You know, I might have had the tiniest shred of respect for you, 'Beefeater', if you'd called the defeated Democratic challenger to Joe Lieberman by his real name. But you had to go and call him "Nerd Lament." How very.....gradeschool of you. We grew out of calling each other nerds and dweebs about the same time we grew out of assuming that the other gender had cooties. I guess you still think girls have cooties...

You know, I might have had the tiniest shred of respect for you, ‘Beefeater’, if you’d called the defeated Democratic challenger to Joe Lieberman by his real name. But you had to go and call him “Nerd Lament.” How very…..gradeschool of you. We grew out of calling each other nerds and dweebs about the same time we grew out of assuming that the other gender had cooties. I guess you still think girls have cooties…

I wonder if Newsweek plans to publish Rove's garbage when he is writing it from a jail cell.

<em>Rove got his guy into the White House twice, Markos backed Nerd Lament. Who’s the genius?

Based on that comment alone, the genius is certainly not you.

I'd love to see Rove outline his math and tactics for the world to see how caging, smearing and other plays are executed in the GOOPER world.

I don't think you can actually reach that level of stupidity, no matter how hard you try ;-)

How about instead of "balanced", Newsweek strove to be accurate? As in, giving their readers an accurate depiction of Bush's misguided policies.

This "he said, she said" format the American media likes to use so much, irritates me to no end. Sometimes, the truth simply doesn't lie somewhere in between. Like in this case; Rove was the advisor to one of the worst US presidents in recent history (if not since the US was born).

This format also allows the media to be lazy, complacent and abdicate their responsibility to actually inform the audience. The excuse "but.. but... we present both sides" is no substitute for accurate, objective reporting.
