ThinksGiving: ThinkProgress Reader Ted Kennedy

Our guest blogger is Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA).

kennedraise2.jpg ThinkProgress is an excellent venue for all the latest political news, especially for insights on what’s motivating progressive voters. It’s a cutting-edge, must-read website with significant influence, and it’s particularly valuable in spreading the progressive message and correcting the record created by right-wing misinformation campaigns.

I’ve decided. I’m asking for a donation to Think Progress as one of my Christmas presents from my husband.

There’s precedent in my family. I got two donations to Moveon.org for a birthday present in October and one to John Edwards.

Heifer International is another one that gets donations in the name of relatives at Christmas time.

    ;-)

  2. Dune Messiah says:

First site I hit in the morning… thank you thank you.

  3. Jay Randal says:

Ted Kennedy is correct about TP anyways. Now if only Feinstein and Schumer would read the blog posts on TP to discover that they are fully disliked and should consider retiring from the Senate ASAP.

  4. toasterhead says:

    Good idea, cupcake!

And I second the Heifer International sentiment – they’re one of my favorite NGOs.

  5. Nature Rules says:

“correcting the record created by right-wing misinformation campaigns.”

This should be the number one concern for all progressives.

    I hope Ted contributes!

  6. Brain From Planet Arous says:

OK, Ted Kennedy is generally all right, except this issue is VERY troublesome. He wants to regulate vitamins and herbs, and hand them over to the pharmaceuticals. I thought only Neo-Cons like to do this.

Thank you, Senator Kennedy, for your tireless work on behalf of working people, veterans and people without health care. You are a great American.

I am so sick of the right wing tv media it makes me madder than hell and if I had the time I’d track them all day and post their smear campaigns and tactics. I tune into msnbc just as I go to bed and they come on at 3am. MSNBC is a fox wannabe with nothing but right wing hacks (except Keith 0) and I’m so sick of them getting away with this crap. They pretend to be fair and objective and you’d have to be blind and deaf to not see and hear what they do there 24/7. I recorded this and edited it to add to youtube. anyone’s welcome to use it if you give me credit I’d appreciate it.

I’m so sick of the right wing media I could spit!

Oh and you do know that CNN hired right wing republican big donor Campbell Brown from nbc and she will debut today at the Democratic Debate! Isn’t that more BS ! She’ll help wolf out asking questions to people she clearly loathes (as she sneered at all Dems when she was on NBC).. isn’t this sad?

Maybe we’ll get more impertinent questions for a presidency like UFO questions. The entire media is out to destroy the Democratic party.

Thank god for online blogs. Well I’m an atheist so it’s a figure of speech but still….

Yes, there’s nothing quite like giving a couple of rabbits or some chicks or part of a yak to someone on behalf of someone.

  10. Jay Randal says:

Interesting to see any mention of Thanksgiving holiday, since in America we tend to jump from Halloween to Christmas now. Only turkey farmers and growers of cranberries do well for Thanksgiving, so it gets neglected.

  11. Witch1 says:

Hay Jay, how the heck are ya.? Haven’t been around much, miss reading you, good to read you here today….I’m shunning troll’s and all reich winger’s so when the traffic get’s thick I just fly off on my broom to some place more pleasent….Blessings

  12. Jay Randal says:

TP would be wise to post a thread on coal industry sponsoring the Democratic presidential candidates debate tonight. Is this the hidden reason the coal mining cave-in disaster in Utah was shoved under the carpet? Oh brother the industry needs to cut the crap about coal being clean energy > it’s a very dirty product!

  13. Namtillaku says:

Senator Kennedy, I want to thank you for courage in speaking out strongly against the occupation of Iraq. Keep up the good work!

  14. Witch1 says:

Jay, they did a couple of link’s back….Blessings

  15. Jay Randal says:

Witch1 > I have been busy cleaning up my property before winter sets in, in Georgia, so just come on occasionally lately. Today is windy and cold so hanging out on the blogs. Thanks for reading my past posts on TP.

  16. Jay Randal says:

Thanks missed the prior thread on coal industry as sponsor.

  17. fletc3her says:

I find ThinkProgress to be essential reading. I am considering contributing, but have to balance it against the political organizations and charities which are also vying for money right now.

To Jay Randal, I think it’s a shame to judge Thanksgiving based on how much money it makes for various industries. Thanksgiving in our family is a time to get together and enjoy each other’s company. Although we certainly buy extra food for the holiday, it feels like one of the few holidays left which is still about family rather than about crass commercialism.

And then there’s the terrible shopping orgy the day after Thanksgiving, but I blame that on Christmas. I don’t exactly celebrate Buy Nothing Day, but I do avoid doing any “shopping” that day, instead only buying day to day stuff I might buy any day.

  18. Spudge Boy says:

At least Ted Kennedy didn’t mention the troll problem at TP. Maybe he has a staffer redact all the troll sh!t on print outs or he only read the thread post itself.

  19. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

As usual, Beefeater barfs up another half-chewed comment.

  20. Jay Randal says:

fletc3her > I happen to like Thanksgiving for exactly the reasons you mention. A time to be with family and friends. I was just pointing out that America in general tends to skip the holiday and goes straight to Christmas instead.

  21. Blue Stater says:

Thank you to the Kennedy staffer who wrote this little note (at least she is still alive!)

As usual Mary Jo could not be reached for comment.

It took 19 posts for someone to bring this up, I think the trolls are slipping.

  22. Witch1 says:

Jay,Your very welcome and I thank you for all your past and present addition’s..

Open letter to Senator Kennedy..My dear old friend, we have been together for all the worst and the best…I cast my first vote ever for JFK, we were united as a nation..I grieved openly when we lost JFK and Bobby, you were my family just as surely as a blood kin would be..You still are..

Fast forward to the present day, I am tired and weary….The party of old democrat’s does not exist except for a tiny few…For over 7 year’s we have (the voters) been neglected, our country and constitution abandoned and abused and the majority have turned to republican lite.

.Our own, Madam speaker Palosi has refused to listen to us and betrayed us by taking impeachment off the table…Majority leader Reid and the senate time and again has rolled over and become enabeler’s to the most evil administration I have ever seen..If I could leave my country and go some where else I would, that’s how much shame I feel for what our representatives have allowed to happen, indeed help pramote.

We can no longer go along with a repeat of viet nam and worse….We can no longer let foreign countries buy our port’s, dump ton’s of led filled toy’s on our children, borrow trillion’s of dollars to fund war’s against innocent countries and allow criminals in our administration write the very law’s that allow them to get off scott free.

I can no longer support the majority of the democratic party…Kucenich will be my pick and if he is not chosen I will write his name in and check the rest….Untill and unless the Democrat’s bring about impeachment, stop funding this unjust war and change their deaf ear attitude toward’s us except to raise more fund’s for their constant campaigning I will be flying in the wind and no longer count my self as a democrat…It is with deep respect I ask you to pass this message on to the democrat’s, for if they do not listen the democratic party will dismantel just as quickly as the republican’s are…..Thank you so much for your time and please forgive all the errors….Blessings to you and your’s…Sharon Cox

  24. Witch1 says:

Gees did I scare you all off the thread.?……Get with the program, Kennedy has alway’s been our champion……Vent, in a dignified way and post your thought’s…..Blessings

New thread of Bush giving a medal to a dork at top.

  26. freeman says:

While we live in apathetic luxury I wonder what the relatives of the dead and the wounded Iraqi’s will be doing for thanks giving ?Don’t forget them when your saying grace this thanksgiving . Oh I know this is horribly cynical but considering what we did to the very people who gave us this holiday , the indian ,perhaps not .
Talk is cheap enjoy your meals , Im fasting .

  27. Witch1 says:

While I agree with some of what you say, freeman, I am cooking and taking food to my neighbor’s who can’t cook and are alone..Do as you choose…Blessings

Senator Kennedy, we desperately need you to Filibuster the FISA legislation should it come up for a vote. Please Join Chris Dodd in his defense of the 4th Amendment. The more Senators who join the Filibuster the better!

    * No retroactive immunity to telcos. They knowingly spied on Americans without warrants in order to get big government contracts. Billion dollar fines need to be levied and people need to go to jail.

    * No basket warrants. I am not a basket. I’m a tax paying U.S. citizen. If the government wants to spy on my communications they need to go to a judge, PROVE PROBABLE CAUSE, and get an INDIVIDUAL WARRANT!

The country is crumbling Senator. Your help is urgently needed! Please tell your fellow Senators how very important this issue is. I’m not sure you guys in the Beltway have any clue what’s important to us in the real world. Thank you!

  31. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

Southern man, there are about 4,000 families who will also have a very heartbreaking Thanksgiving this year thanks to your law-breaking, aristocratic cult leader, but you don’t care about them, do you?

  32. freeman says:

southern man better use your head
don’t forget what your good book says
southern change gonna come at last
now your crosses are burning fast

    Comment by Frosty Cupcake — November 15, 2007 @ 2:27 pm

My whole family pools our holiday money and donates to Heifer International — not one of us needs anymore stuff. We have so my much fun deciding which animals to pick. Very worthwhile organization.
