White House spokesman Tony Fratto announced today that “on Monday, November 26th, the President will host the 2007 U.S. recipients of Nobel Prizes, the Nobel Laureates.” As the co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, Al Gore will be in attendance. AJC’s Ken Herman writes, “Should be an interesting reunion of a couple of buddies from the 2000 presidential campaign and its historic aftermath.”

C’mon guys,
November 16th, 2007 at 3:58 pmOne clean round of leg-wrestling and the winner becomes President.
Please George…you’ve had the wheel long enough. Let Al drive for awhile.
November 16th, 2007 at 3:59 pmI don’t expect the president to make a snide joke at Gore’s expense under the pretense of being “folksy”, but I wouldn’t be surprised, either.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:01 pmIs there any chance that Al will show up in Bermuda shorts and an “I’m with stupid” T-shirt?
November 16th, 2007 at 4:04 pmWill George bring the Supreme Court with him just in case he needs them.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:06 pmMaybe Al could bring a box of Florida uncounted ballots with him for old time’s sake.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:07 pmHas the SCOTUS reversed the decision of the nobel committee yet and awarded the medal to Dubya?
November 16th, 2007 at 4:07 pmWhen Walt Disney received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Lyndon Johnson in September of 1964, he attended the ceremony wearing a Barry Goldwater campaign button, or so it was rumored. Not hard to believe, since Disney was a lifelong Republican and at the time, both Goldwater and Johnson were hard at work running for president. The only thing that makes the rumor a bit hard to swallow is that Disney wasn’t a rabble-rouser, and it’s doubtful that he would have shown so little class.
Even though Al Gore disagrees with just about every policy and strategy that’s come out of the Bush White House (not to mention the way the 2000 election turned out), I’m sure he will conduct himself with class as well.
The only suspense here will be waiting to see what Bush’s speechwriters have him say.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:08 pmI would love to be a fly on the wall following Gore around the event. I bet there will be some really juicy tidbits coming out of it.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:10 pmHow about that, the REAL PRESIDENT gets to go to the White House.
It will takes years of cleaning to get the smell of corruption out of there though.

November 16th, 2007 at 4:11 pmKatherine Harris and Jeb Bush are reviewing the vote count of the The Nobel Foundation.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:13 pmThe contrast is obvious and it will be “The Tale of Two Candidates” - one who stole the election; one who had the election stolen from him. One who decided to take the “high road” in life and do something credible and honorable with his time & energy versus one who decided to unite with Darth Vadar and became the Prince of Darkness, opting for the dark side of life full of lies, corruption, fraud, war crimes and scandal.
These two men will go down in history books on the same page and it will be Al Gore who will be time-honored, universally respected, nationally reverred, and hold a place of honor in this history of this country. His counterpart who played dirty to become elected will be remembered as the president who tanked the reputation and economy of the United States - absolutely and without question as “The worst president EVER in this history of this country”.
Al Gore & GW Bush = A Study in Contrasts
November 16th, 2007 at 4:16 pmI hope Chimpy has the worst case of heartburn EVER.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:17 pmMissmolly: You KNOW that Al Gore will conduct himself with aplomb and respect because it’s inherent within him to do so naturally. Unfortunately, inherent within GWB is the crass, uneducated, unpolished clown who hasn’t the first clue how to comport himself with dignity and honor. Any wonder why no one in this country or elsewhere respects him??
November 16th, 2007 at 4:18 pmWhat Al Gore accomplished, this Chimp can only dream of. He could never achieve or attain this height in a thousand lifetimes. What a sad study in contrasts this will make to see the stature of Al Gore standing alongside a buffoon.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:19 pmMaybe Al will finally “out” the content of the phone conversation when he called Bush and suggested that he retract his concession due to voting irregularities and improprieties facilitated by none other than his own brother and his lil’ squeeze, Kath Harris. I understand from Gore’s people that Chimpy threatened him during that call.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:21 pmSomeday soon the tables will be turned and Al Gore will see to it that justice is served in the stolen election of 2000. Floridians know exactly what occurred back then and investigations are still ongoing.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:22 pmGore will need gallons of cootie wash after the visit.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:35 pmI’m really surprised he’d accept the invitation and mingle with the slime.
Veritas,
Why the hell are investigations still on-going? Greg Palast published documentary proof of the Kitty Harris’s vote-purge putsch while the recounts were still going on…in Britain. We didn’t get to hear about it until the next July on this side of the pond.
Quick recap: Chimperor Bush claims a 345 vote “winning margin” and sues to stop recounts. However, prior to the election, Harris had contracted ChoicePoint (heavily republican-controlled Atlanta data aggregator) to purge tens of thousands of legit voters from the rolls, some for “felony convictions” with court dates listed as late as 2007 (this is in 2000, remember). Among the disenfranchised “felons”: a county elections supervisor and a local Judge. Those targeted for purges were overwhelmingly black, latino, and poor–in short, likely democratic voters.
No wonder Chimpy said Bubba Jeb told him “you can take it to the bank” that they’d win Florida. Again, I ask, why is this still under investigation? We’ve known all of this for years, at least, those of us who pay attention have.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:36 pmI’m really surprised he’d accept the invitation and mingle with the slime.

Gore’s a class act. I’m pretty sure that, had he been selected as President, he would not have spilled crumbs all over himself while talking with his mouth full to Tony Blair, nor would he have imposed a creepy backrub on Angela Merkel, the president of Germany.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:38 pmralph, yeah, Al has class, unlike certain 43rd presidents of some countries.

I can’t wait to see Al looking around, remembering the good ol days. And then thinking “If I could have won my own damn state!!!â€.
FOAD. There’s no requirement that you “win your own state” to be president (I’d note for the brain-damaged here that the president is president over all fifty states). Reasonably enough, the requirement is that you win the most electoral votes, which is determined by who gets the most votes in each of the various states (with just a few exceptions). Gore won the “beauty contest” of the popular vote as well as the electoral vote … until the Supes said that we doan’ need to count no steenkin’ votes in Florida to find out who actually won.
Resorting to the trite and stale “he didn’t win his own state” crapola is just a sign that you don’t have a better ‘argument’.
Now shoo!!! Back under the rock wid’ ya….

Really? I read somewhere a few years back that The Miami Herald did a recount of all ballots in Miami-Dade and the other counties in which Gore wanted recounted(Not the entire state whch should have been done) and chimpy still would have won a close election.
Ummm, the contest phase (not the initial 4 county protests) was a statewide contest (the only kind provided for under state law), and the order that was halted by the Supes was for the entire state to be recounted.
A review by a consortium of newspapers of all state ballots showed that Gore had the most votes (not even counting the “butterfly” ballot debacle and the voter list purges).
Sounds like you need an edjoomacation. I’d suggest other than Freeperville/Clownhall/WhirledNutzDaily/Limbots….

Sorry to feed the troll, but…
you may have your figures correct, but they are at best incomplete.
From the NY Times:
The study, conducted over the last 10 months by a consortium of eight news organizations assisted by professional statisticians, examined numerous hypothetical ways of recounting the Florida ballots. Under some methods, Mr. Gore would have emerged the winner; in others, Mr. Bush. But in each one, the margin of victory was smaller than the 537- vote lead that state election officials ultimately awarded Mr. Bush.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:47 pm#27 Southern End of a Northbound Horse:
Tennesse had three electoral votes. He would have won with those three.
SFW?!?!? I already explained that. He didn’t win Tennessee, so pointing it out is like arguing icicle length on Venus. What was at issue is whether, by the laws of the land and of the various states, he won the electoral vote.
Do I need to hit you athwart the head with a 2X4 to “explain” that salient point?
Cheers,
November 16th, 2007 at 4:50 pmSo, Gore comes to the White House: War (Bush) vs. Peace (Gore). It should have read “Al Gore comes home” since Gore should been sitting in the Oval office in 2000 instead of that incompetent clown.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:51 pmPresident Gore goes to Washington! About damn time!
Give ‘em hell, big Al!
Mr. Pres,
When dumbass jr. extends his arm to shake your hand, put him in a headlock and give him a noogie like he ain’t never had before.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:56 pmWow. Southern Man sure doesn’t do his region any credit by adopting it as his moniker.
Do you have any evidence that Zuch is wrong, besides your saying he is?
The NY Times article that you mentioned and to which I actually linked said clearly that a statewide recount (which was mandated by state law and somehow stopped by the usually “states’ rights” friendly conservative justices) would have resulted in a Gore victory. The limited recount he was after (I even thought at the time that was a foolish gambit on his part) would still have ended up with Bush winning.

I propose a slight modification. Al could hit the gym and simply crush lil’ Georgie’s hand till he cries. I recall a “King of the Hill” episode where Hank was mortified upon discovering lil’ Georgie’s weak handshake.
Tough I would still approve of the “I’m with Stupid” t-shirt.

Good point. And good news for Giuliani!
November 16th, 2007 at 5:19 pmI wonder if anyone who attends will take along a “We did not vote for Bush” sign for their photo opportunity? If they are searched before hand they’ll have to resort to the lipstick on the back of the program trick. Just a IDNVFB would work.

Since you seem so proud that Bush won and Gore lost (thanks only the the Supreme Court and NOT the American people), please tell us all about how much better off the country is with Bush as president rather than Gore. Please also tell us how you are not a traitor to the United States by supporting this criminal administration. While you’re at it, tell us why you should not be thrown in prison for putting your love of the republiscum party before country. You are a traitor. You are guilty of treason. And you have the blood of our troops and thousands of innocent civilians on your hands.

November 16th, 2007 at 6:58 pm#32 Southern End of a Northbound Horse:
Your wrong my friend. Does this consortium include millitary ballots that Gore tried to purge? Do you remeber that? Or has selective memory come our way? Another reason why the millitary does’nt vote democrastic.
Ummm, it was the Republicans that tried to get absentee ballots from overseas thrown out (and succeeded) … but only for Democratic leaning counties. In Republican counties, they instead pushed for inclusion of all ballots, including quite obviously illegal ones such as one faxed in, IIRC. After the Dem memo on challenges was disclosed, the Dems dropped all efforts to challenge ballots. See the article about this, July 2001, in the N.Y. Times by Dale Van Natta (you can search it on the web). Tales by the RW foamer noise machine about Dems disenfranchising the military are simply untrue. It was only Republicans that tried this (and succeeded).
You really need to learn a bit, SM, before opening your mouth.
To the others: I think that the explanation for SM’s behaviour here is that he started “Happy Hour” a bit earlier than claimed….

November 16th, 2007 at 7:31 pmAl Gore deserves to feel so superior to that filthy crook. I hope Gore takes a look at the little chimp and knows in his heart that we’ve never needed him more!
November 16th, 2007 at 8:00 pmSouthern Man, let me clear something up for you because you, like many others have obviously been fooled by our corporate media regarding this very important issue. Here’s a link to the original media consortium study on the Florida 2000 ballot:
http://www.aei.org/ docLib/ 20040526_KeatingPaper.pdf
Please scroll down to page 8 of this document and take a look at the table called “results.” There, you will find the final tally which shows that if all the ballots had been counted in the state of Florida, Gore would have won no matter what counting standard they chose. This, of course doesn’t even take into account the illegal actions Florida state officials took preventing many people of color from voting. As you may know, the Jeb Bush administration settled a lawsuit with the NAACP over this issue admitting that people were illegally prevented from voting or the thousands of illegal overseas ballots which Lieberman didn’t want challenged. It also doesn’t include the thousands of “overvotes” which the judge in Broward County decided should be counted.
Bottom line: the Supreme Court prevented the counting of all state ballots which would have shown that Gore won under any counting standard.
November 16th, 2007 at 8:11 pmLet me add that this “couldn’t win his own state” argument is completely irrelevant. Of course an avowed environmentalist couldn’t take a state in which the biggest industry was coal. That he even got close in Tennessee is amazing.
November 16th, 2007 at 8:13 pmSouthern Man: “Does this consortium include millitary ballots that Gore tried to purge? Do you remeber that? Or has selective memory come our way? Another reason why the millitary does’nt vote democrastic.”
Again, the facts don’t support this argument. There was overwhelming evidence that this group of ballots was filled with fraud. Gore’s campaign people wanted them challenged and Gore DIDN’T challenge them in spite of the fact that many had no dates or signatures.

Actually, I think the explanation of his behavior is the same for all the RNC trolls that come here. They are on what they consider to be a “mission”. They are not here to debate with us, they are here to disrupt our threads and then they sit back and laugh when they create the chaos they crave. They are also here to “seed” our threads with nasty posts that the Right Wing Talking Heads can point to and say that we are “enter here what they want to think we are”.
November 16th, 2007 at 8:17 pmChimpy McFlightsuit was installed.
November 16th, 2007 at 8:24 pmWhy is it that every time I bring up the actual study, as opposed to the distortive mainstream media articles about the study, the trolls head for the hills. The truth must really hurt. I know that it’s a truth which I find very painful. Gore is the only person in U.S. history to have won the presidency but prevented from taking the office. It’s a tragic disgrace and hundreds of thousands are dead as a result.
November 16th, 2007 at 8:29 pmSouthern dolt has headed off to happy hour, to drink away his guilt and treason. when he returns, he’ll be even less able to deal with truth and reality.

November 16th, 2007 at 9:57 pmI’d like to see Al headbutt shrub, the kick him in the balls.
November 16th, 2007 at 10:02 pmAl Gore is unwise if he is cordial to Dubya. Gore actually won the 2000 election, thus had the presidency stolen from him, so Bush is illegitimate leader.
November 16th, 2007 at 10:20 pmI think Gore will take the high road…….and in doing so will make shrub look like the fool he is.But for me……I’d like to see him knock shrubs teeth out.but that’s just me.And i’m against violence, but I’d make an exception in this case.
November 16th, 2007 at 10:28 pmI give Gore a lot of credit if he is able to show up. Better yet, I give Bush credit if he shows up. Note the comparisons between the accomplishment of Gore versus Bush. I don’t need to enumerate the hundred ways Bush has destroyed America.
November 17th, 2007 at 1:18 amHow gracious it would be of President Bush to provide Air Force One to Al and Tipper for their trip to Oslo in December. Such a thoughtful, considerate act could foster genuinely acceptable warm global feelings. Or am I Marie of Roumania whistling down the wind?
November 17th, 2007 at 1:30 amCould Al just stay on at the White House for awhile? Maybe Bush could let him take the reins and fade away into the Texas winds. Not likely to happen but even Bush would probably like to find an easy way out of this farce.
November 17th, 2007 at 4:02 amHowever unlikely, I would be gratified to hear Al give Dubya the same response Cheney gave Leahy on the Senate floor. Somebody needs to tell him, and Gore deserves the honor.
