Did Cookie lie to Congress?

House Oversight Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) will hold a hearing after Thanksgiving recess to examine whether State Department Inspector General Howard “Cookie” Krongard provided truthful testimony at a hearing last week, in light of new revelations that his brother serves on the advisory board of Blackwater USA. Waxman recently spoke to Krongard’s brother, Buzzy:

Buzzy Krongard stated that Howard Krongard called him specifically to ask about any relationship he had with Blackwater “in preparation for his testimony” to the Committee. Buzzy Krongard stated: “He asked me whether I had any financial interest or any ties to Blackwater, and so I told him ‘I’m going on their Board.”‘

According to Buzzy Krongard, “He responded by saying, ‘Why would you do that?’ and ‘Are you sure that’s a good idea?”‘ Buzzy Krongard then said, “I told him that was my decision, not his, and that we just differed on that.”

In contrast, Howard Krongard testified on November 14, “I do not believe it is true that he is a member of the advisory board.” More here.

I don’t know if Cookie lied to Congress, but I know Lurita Doan testified before Congress that cookies are good.

  2. Bob says:

When the President lies to Congress with no consequence (i.e. the infamous 16 words), everyone else from ball players to oil men figure it’s ok.

  3. Saint Augustine says:

State Department employees might get Cookie crumbs for Christmas.

  4. LividLib says:

    Buzzy and Cookie, huh?
i can only imagine how they got those nicknames.

  5. SP Biloxi says:

Cookie crumbled. Even a caveman knows Cookie lied.

  6. mongo says:

Republican lies are harmless “white” lies; lies by democrats require impeachment.

    C’mon everybody knows that.

  7. rastaman says:

shouldn’t Krongard’s phone carrier have that entire conversation in their data mining files?

might be a good time to issue a subpoena

    “Did Cookie lie to Congress?”

I take it this is a rhetorical question.

  9. had enough says:

Of course he lied…what are the odds of all this being coincidental? So shamefully pitiful the corruption we see from this thug administration married into the corporate corrupt crime regime…. they all walk in lock step. We will see more lies and more distractions from the MSM to dilute the findings.

I would assume that “Buzzy” brings the beer, weed, and coke, while “Cookie” is in charge of “munchies”.

  11. missmolly says:

Well, either Cookie lied to Congress, or Buzzy is getting him back for that garter snake Cookie put in his bed years ago…

  12. Tender Chicken says:

Subpoena his phone records to see exactly who it was he called during that break. Not his brother–I’d bet on it. He called the White House to see what he should do to get his butt out of the sling he put it in.

  13. Marie says:

This seems like a case for perjury to me.
He did come back after lunch and say that he was incorrect, but the man’s integrity is surely questionable, as he certainly attempted to flat-out lie to congress.
We have a president, vice-president, attorney general and other high placed officials lying through their teeth to congress and the public, so the precedent is set: Lie, if you think you can get away with it.

  14. Veritas says:

Amazing what precedent has been set and how far the bar has been lowered in terms of elected officials lying to the people in 6 short years. How can anyone expect any official of this administration to have the integrity to tell the truth when the pres, veep, etc. repeatedly lie and then lie to cover their last lie. Remember when Bush went on television stating that he was definitely NOT spying on americans and was only doing so “legally with a warrant” if they were communicated with suspected “foreign terrorists”?? Remember that charade??

I don’t know how americans can be lied to daily by the people holding the highest offices in the land and accept this behavior? It reduces us as a nation to little more than criminals when we accept this from our highest officials. Is it any wonder why the rule of law has become meaningless? Is it any wonder why we are experiencing anarchy right now and as order continues to fail in our cities, each state will have to take this government into their own hands??

Just like the illegal immigration problem, the federal government is doing zilch to protect our borders and enforce our immigration laws so the states are going over their heads and doing so themselves. Thus it will be for the rule of law and adherence to the constitution – state by state will take it into their own hands and render this lameduck president – yesterday’s news and over with.

The people have given the dems a year to do something about this heinous gang of thugs and lawbreakers in the white house and they continue to do nothing regarding the corruption we wanted cleaned up. Now it will be time for each state to take action if they care about their own people and preservation of this democracy.

It’s been done before – secession from the union. As in yesterday’s debate, someone said “this government is seriously broken” and we, the people, cannot and will not permit them to continue their capricious criminal spree.

  15. Veritas says:

Besides, no where in the constitution does it imply that paying taxes is a law. Bring on another Boston Tea Party! Taxation without representation! That’s precisely what’s going on right now.

  16. Rebel in CA says:

“Buzzy” and “Cookie”; sound like a couple of crooks in some Jewish Mafia mob like “Bugsy” and “Lefty”

    You said it.

  18. ArtZ says:

    Ho Hum. Just another lie.
Are we complacent enough yet America!!!

  19. OneCrankyDem says:

    Breaking News
Buzzy has resigned from Blackwater. I would say it’s a little too late and have no clue why he wold quit now except for the fact that since Cookie has reclused himself Buzzy is no longer worth his salary…http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/S/STATE_DEPARTMENT_FRAUD?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2007-11-16-21-50-00

  20. Jay Randal says:

Yep he perjured himself, but I doubt Waxman will do much about it. Henry did one hearing on the Pat Tillman assassination, and then closed the door to the public, so unsure who Waxman works for?

  21. xenon says:

“Cookie,” “Scooter,” “Turd Blossom,”…where the f-ck am I, Riverdale?
