Praise the Lord. Reid will call the Senate into session over break to prevent Bush's recess appointment of his god awful homophobic candidate for Surgeon General. Thanks Harry.

Dodd voted with the GOP today? On what? Dodd has so far been a lone "man of action" in a field of "action figures", so I'm very curious to hear about this.

Won't the boy king just make acting appointments? What's congress going to do then, besides write strongly worded letters expressing the sense of the Senate, blah blah blah.

That's all well and good, but Harry should also do the same thing at the end of the year, during the Christmas - New Years period. In order for this to mean anything, there has to be no recess at all untill 2009. It would make no sense to prevent a recess appointment now, only to have it happen 4 weeks from now.

Most attitudes here mirror my own. This is a good move, and a long overdue first step toward curbing the excesses of Chimpy. But I'll believe it when I see it. Harry Reid has squandered a lot of trust in his leadership.

I agree this is necessary, that's what I said, Bush has driven the Senate to having to do this because everyone knows he can't be trusted to not put in people who could never actually be confirmed otherwise.

There is a God!
Bout freaking time this was done. This is how you deal with arrogant, egomaniacal authoratarians like Bush...you take their toys away and send them to their rooms without dinner.
Now he's going to have to play nice or he doesn't get what he wants.

Procedural tricks? It never bothers the GOOPers to pull this sort of nonsense. What's good for the goose...

It's really sad that Reid needs to resort to what are really procedural tricks to prevent this president from making these appointments, but that is what needs to be done as this president has already rammed some real doozies in during recess. I haven't been to happy with Harry this past year (or Nancy) as they have been way too timid in confronting this 24% approval president, but on this one I will say good job.

Senator Reid > since you were unable to strong arm Schumer and Feinstein to block Mukasey as AG, and allowed Dodd to vote with GOPers today, thus it is very difficult to believe you any longer.
