Saudi court increases punishment for rape victim.

A 19-year old gang-rape victim saw her punishment increased by a Saudi court. The seven rapists had originally received sentences ranging from 10 months to five years in prison, but the victim’s lawyer challenged the sentencing as too light. A Saudi appeals court agreed and made the punishment two to nine years for the rapists. But the Saudi court also increased the punishment for the victim, who had originally received 90 lashes for “meeting with an unrelated male.” The court increased her punishment to six months in prison and 200 lashes. CNN reports:

The judges more than doubled the punishment for the victim because of “her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media,” according to a source quoted by Arab News, an English-language Middle Eastern daily newspaper.

Hmmm, one justification for illegally attacking Iraq was their poor treatment of women. Can Saudi be far behind? Ha ha ha, not to mention that most of the dudes on 9/11 were Saudi. Hey, an ally of the U.S. attacked the WTC with no retribution. Go figure.

I hope for humanity’s sake you’re kidding; or at the very least you have no wife/kids and never will. There is simply no excuse for this kind of abuse. Now, because this is Islamic law, I can see things being harsher, but not this harsh. Jailtime at best, but the lashings are a bit extreme. And c’mon, she was raped! How do you justify punishing someone who was raped?

Sorry Beef, but even Hillary sees the sense in diplomacy, a word that George Bush doesn’t know the definition of. Also, I am sure that Hillary doesn’t consider Islam (a religion) to be evil as you brain dead 24%ers do. Islam the religion is no more evil than Christianity the religion is. There are people who are evil who practice Islam just as there are people who are evil who practice Christianity.

So Hill Billy was an abused child. I guess that’s the reason why he has become a soulless, heartless neoCON. I am willing to bet that a lot of them were abused children. Abused children generally grow up craving an authority figure in their life to tell them what to do and how to act. And that’s pretty much what the 24%ers are. People who need authority figures in their lives because they have no personal sense of self. God help us and keep us safe from these people.

Mr. Bush has said that he would like to be dictator. Bush has given $9,000,000,000 to the Pakistani military over the last seven years to bribe them to prop up dictator Musharraf. Bush’s father loved and admired the Saudi dictators. Bush’s grandfather, Prescott Bush, admired and supported Hitler and the German Nazis. Bush’s great-grandfather also admired and supported Hitler and the German Nazis. Can you spot a trend here?

I do not know if we as a nation need another 9/11 to completely understand the depth of pure hatred held by millions of humans on this earth that spend every waking hr of their miserable lives trying to figure out how to kill us OR how soon we will forget……do you?
    Comment by Billy Hill

I feel sorry to hear that you were abused as a child, but that doesn’t excuse your adult self. The hatred many people on this earth feel towards us is well earned. If we would stop minding other people’s business through nation building and preemptive war, and stop killing innocent people, I’m quite sure there would be a lot less people on this earth who want to kill Americans. I can tell you, if I was an Iraqi whose family member was killed by the US, I would hate America just as much as they hate us.

BTW, there is a way to stop the cycle of violence in your family. You just need to recognize what violence does to people and want to change.

  37. dbadass says:

Nope, I don’t have a clue but if you think so highly of the awareness of messages sent and received maybe the focus might be on why IF you are indeed correct why so many might hate and want to kill us. It is also about her sentence being increased after she contested the original ruling.

The rest of your post is so backward. You probably don’t know this case is causing a lot of debate even in Saudi Arabia, because the punishment is seeing as unjust and overly harsh.

Without defending the Saudi royal family and their version of Islam, this case is egregious even by the Saudis’ own strict standards.

  56. Evergreen2U says:

Small minded and small hearted men who feel inferior denigrate and hurt women. Some cultures (usually the less evolved or less educated) seem to accept & sanction this as governmental policy.

Also not that some religions with roots in prescientific times when women were property…christian & islam spring most notably to mind…tend toward this ownership abuse thing than more civilized ways of thinking.

Somehow brutality towards others makes these men feel better about themselves .

But it is of course, just the ultimate proof of their ugly little smallness.

If you guys didnt have the political influence to force your creepy, hipocritical beleifs on all the rest of us, some of you would be flying planes into buildings just like the islamic nuts. Actually, you guys dont have the balls to stay in the planes when they hit, so you’d probably be going the route of your christian brother Timmy McVeigh. Yes, and also, lets not forget, Saudi Arabia has government sanctioned TELETHONS, frikking TELETHONS for Hamas. So yes, they are blatant, televised sponsors of terror. They are, and were much greater sponsors of terror than our old ally Saddam EVER was. I love it how idiots like Daryll insist Iraq deserved to be bombed because they sponsored terror but don’t think Saudi Arabi deserves to be bombed for the same reason.

The Saudi’s, the Taliban, Hizbollah, Islamic Jihad and alot of Muslim countries treat women differently than we do here. They can have as many wifes as they want, they can beat them. I’m not saying its better or worse, its just different. Over here a woman can snap her fingers and if the man she is with doesn’t dance to her tune, she can call the police tell them he beat her and he’ll get hauled away, thrown in jail, huge fines and court costs, have to go to Anger Management classes, have a stain on his record. even if he did’nt hit her and she made up every bit of it. I personally feel the woman in the story was treated very unfairly. And there are probably thousands more that go thru the same thing. I just don’t see how your going to convience the Muslims our system is better.

You don’t see people racing to get into Iran.

Some of the people on this site make it sound as if there is are some democrats out there ready to lay some 500 pound “daisy cutters” on the Saudi’s. 911 hijackers, $100 a barrel oil. During the debates I did’nt hear anything close. I’d like to hear more about the candidates that have this view. I have heard some of the dems talk of going into Pakistan after Bin Laden. He still needs to be dealt with. It is ashame some of the countries receiving millions in foreign aid haven’t put more effort into helping us find him.

With WorldWar1 the alliances between countries had brought millions of deaths to countries that nothing to do with The Archduke getting Assassinated in Yugoslavia. Wars are also very costly. And starting a war you risk alliances forming of equal or greater power But to stop genocide or threats to the American People it could be necessary. Iran, China, and Russia are large powers that could decimate the U.S. and they are allies. The U.S can’t tell every country in the world how to run their countries. The holy wars go back Centuries. And the Muslims still do things their way and the Christian Countries and Israel still have their, traditions, values, and holidays.

George Bush or Bill Clinton are not running for reelection. The American people gotta decide who is going to command the one of the most powerful militaries on the planet.
I just don’t feel good about Hillary taking the job, some of the other candidates had some bright spots here and there. What if Bill and Hillary got a divorce. The French President just went thru that. It could happen.?

Funny how the wingnuts suddenly expressed concern about the plight of women and the GLBT community in Iran, but stay silent when it concerns our “ally,” Saudi Arabia.

    >I think the fundies would LOVE to see “immoral” women receive 200 >lashes. It’s the stuff of wet dreams…

and a 10 part dvd series as well…

This story is why; you don’t tolerate things just because somebody’s imaginary friend made the rules.

Seriously, some things are just wrong and this is that, wrong. Stuff the culture, stuff the “We must understand” and stuff the whole respect for other people.

This is what it means to let calls for tolerance to silence debate, what it means when we as a society allow religion to hold some holy place in our cultural debate.

Should the west declare war over this? Not directly. We need to dump oil as a required resource, we need to stop funding these pigs and start marginalising them. What this verdict shows is that they are evil, and if calling them evil offends them GOOD.

If offensive pictures of Mohammed gets them rioting and killing each other, then get your pencils out because I have lost any and all sympathy with the Middle East over this.

As much as it is wrong, you look on the news today and you see. Taliban mutilates police officer. 100 years from now the Taliban will still be there, the Shites and Sunnis and Hamas, Al Asqa, Al Qaida, Hezbollah, they will still be here, Still doing prayer 5 times a day,

We have injustice like that here in our land. in our Prison system. It is the same thing but reversed. The prison rape!!! Punished than victimized.

Chocalate Jesus: Which one of the libs running for president is going to go give our pals like Mushareff or King Abdullah or the guy from Egypt a “Dirty Sanchez”?

    111. Our country needs to lighten up on the political correctness and stay true to its roots. When they want to break out the Koran to prove a reason they need five wifes, beatings, rape and Islamic Law over here in our land and say ” We need our religious freedom”. You need to draw a line and say this is not how we do it over here.

NRA Gun nutes: How do you feel about the Clinton Gun Ban, Rebecca Peters at the U.N. I thought Bush did a wonderful job preserving the 2nd Amendment. He get a A+++ rating from me. He is still the President. I’d even take a bullet to protect him, that stuff your saying is kinda on the threatning side. Change your handle your going to make the NRA look bad.
