Krongard protests Waxman hearing.

By Amanda Terkel on Nov 18th, 2007 at 3:40 pm

Krongard protests Waxman hearing.

Last week, House Oversight Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) announced that he will hold a hearing after Thanksgiving recess to investigate discrepancies between statements on Blackwater by State Department Inspector General Howard Krongard and those of his brother. Howard Krongard’s lawyer has now written to Waxman and asked him to cancel the hearing. “There is no legitimate purpose to be gained by publicly pitting two brothers against each other,” Barbara Van Gelder wrote.

What is the point? All they’ll do is prove that another Republican is a liar & thief. Is that really necessary? No punishment will follow, and if it did GWB would simply pardon the buffoon.

  3. Dave C says:

When you think about it, this makes as much sense as proving the next Republican is a closet homosexual. Between being a thief, liar & closet homosexual there’s little surprises in the Republican party. If you want real news find a Rep with integrity. Now that would be worthy of a hearing.

  4. The Republic of Stupidity says:

Huh? A potentially criminal matter should be dropped because 2 corrupt brothers might have colluded to obstruct justice?

Ye Gods!!! The GOOPers have cleaved off from reality completely.

Of course, Schrubb could declare the entire matter a national security issue, and claim Exec privilege. The brothers could just choose to ignore any subpoenas. Perhaps they’ll publicly tell Waxman to go F- himself and then say afterwards it made them feel better. And of course, Schrubb can always pardon them or commute their sentence.

The possibilities are endless in GOOPerland!!!

  5. The Republic of Stupidity says:

Oh wait! I forgot one more really good reason to not pursue this.

Cookie and Buzzy Shouldn’t be burdened w/ the cost of defending themselves in court.

Perhaps if they were just grounded for a month and given extra chores to do… Cookie and Buzzy AREN’T kids? W/ names like that, they’re full grown men who should understand the ramifications of their actions? Huh… who’d athought!

  7. osage says:

The fact they are “brothers” has no relevance. The issue is whether or not a perjury attempt was made. Isn’t that what Republicans impeached Clinton for?

  8. profmarcus says:

i agree… a hearing on this accomplished absolutely nothing, particularly when ignored congressional suppoenas are sitting on the table… all waxman is doing here is jacking off his own ego… what he NEEDS to do is lobby every single one of his house colleagues to declare meiers and bolton in inherent contempt of congress and THEN schedule a hearing on sibel edmonds… that MIGHT salvage some of his credibility, altho’ he’s so far in the hole with me right now, i doubt if i’m salvageable…

And, yes, I DO take it personally

  9. GSD says:

But, but the Republican Smear Machine said that Valerie Wilson was ‘fair game’ and the fact that her husband went on a fact finding mission was proof enough of corruption.

  12. Wayne A. Schneider says:

I wonder, is Cookie’s lawyer a graduate of Regent University? Because that is an extremely stupid rationale for not pursuing an investigation into possible perjury. The fact that they are siblings is irrelevant (as was pointed out before). Now, if they were husband and wife, it might be different. But they’re not, so it isn’t.

  13. DutchHenry says:

  24. bilbobaggins says:

“There is no legitimate purpose to be gained by publicly pitting two brothers against each other,”

Sure there is. One brother lied to Congress. And what’s up with Bush admin people testifying while NOT under oath? Can’t Congress compel them to testify under oath. Has there ever been an administration that refused to allow it’s employees to testify under oath? I know that Clinton allowed his people to testify under oath. He even allowed the AG to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate HIM!

Now that’s a class act. Followed by a clown and a crook.

  25. Veritas says:

#22 I would hardly call pursuit of one who has perjured himself before Congress with regard to investigating corruption in Iraq a “witch hunt”. Technically, since you don’t seem to comprehend the meaning of the term, “witch hunt” indicates an attempt to create something which does not exist. Witch Hunt would not be appropriate in this case. Krongard hung himself by lying to Congress.

This is not a case of much ado about nothing. The entire Bush Cabal is lying their asses off to the people and it’s about time that congress pursue a perjury charge against this Bushitco crony.

  26. Veritas says:

I predict that this coming year will be a Republican “scandal du jour” – there are so many perverts in the GOP, hypocrites, liars, and perjurers, not to even touch upon laws broken which will not be unearthed until the chimp vacates the White house……I would think that by the first quarter of 08, it will be a foregone conclusion that the Republican candidates are wasting their time. The Republican party is going down in flames before our eyes right now. Nothing but charred tatters and ash will be left of them prior to the election.

Bilbo: When the refuse to be sworn in, it’s a certain indication that they intend to lie their asses off. This IS the Bush MO.

Incidentally, just had to let you guys in on this one. University of Florida is having Gonzo come to speak next week in Gainesville. Get this: Gonzo wanted to 1)hand select the members of the media to be present ….2) not permit the newspapers to disclose the amount he is being paid for his appearance (which, BTW, is $40,000) 3) Position his podium so his notes can’t be seen by the public and 4) make every individual submit their question on an index card which he will then “hand select” to have read.

WTF?? How the University of Florida would besmerch their reputation by having this disgraced perjuring AG appear and even pay him to do so is beyond my comprehension.

Thought you guys would want to know this. The article appeared in the “independent florida alligator” – a campus newspaper as well as probably The Gainesville Sun.

I’m not so sure though, as is typical, the Republicriminals have it backwards. I mean, seriously, would it be possible for a guy who can’t master basic concepts (like think then act, chew then swallow, study then decide) to become President if there weren’t a deal with Satan?

  30. Veritas says:

I forgot to tell you that the Univ. of Florida DID NOT comply with Gonzo’s requirement #1 and #2. They will go along with the podium positioning, wireless microphone, and nearby water. Despite the University not complying with his wishes, Whimpo is still agreeing to come. Could it be that he needs that $40,000 for his new defense fund so he’s out prostitituing himself?

Who would be left, for them to still have a republican party?

Who would be left, for them to still have a republican party?

    Comment by Wayne — November 18, 2007 @ 6:29 pm

There are a few left. Though, I must admit, they are rare and many are removing themselves from their corrupt party. Baring a catastrophe the current crop of neocons will be crushed. Whether the party survives them, or a new party rises on the backs of the honorable few, remains to be seen.

  33. bilbobaggins says:

Yet another dem-led witch-hunt. No wonder the people are fed up with a Congess (is the approval soon in single digits?) that wastes all its time and energy on pointless investigations instead of concentrating on legislation.
    Comment by Frank M

Sorry Francine, but the people are fed up with the Republiscum members of Congress who are obstructionists. And they are fed up with the Democrats for NOT playing hardball with the Republiscums. And why should they bother to concentrate on legislation? All that happens is that the Republiscums threaten a veto or Bush vetoes it. Personally I would like to see the Democrats announce that since they can’t pass any legislation due to Republiscum obstruciton, they will spend the remaining 14 months of Bush’s reign of terror by investigating every crime they have ever committed. And I would love to see them start to play hard ball by using Inherent Contempt to force the Republiscums to testify.

  34. bilbobaggins says:

I predict that this coming year will be a Republican “scandal du jour” – there are so many perverts in the GOP, hypocrites, liars, and perjurers, not to even touch upon laws broken which will not be unearthed until the chimp vacates the White house

One could only hope. But, this isn’t going to happen unless the Democrats start playing hard ball and use Inherent Contempt to force these criminals to testify.

As long as the Democrats allow them to testify without being under oath and allow them to ignore subpoenas, nothing is going to change.

It’s beginning to look like the Democrats have finally gotten a clue and have decided to start playing hardball. I’m hoping they follow through, but I’m not going to get my hopes up too much. I don’t think I could stand being disappointed once again.

Anyone besides me notice that Frank M (aka Francine) comes here, throws mud on the wall then splits. What a coward she is.

Try that yourself. A covert CIA officer, working on WMD, was outed by the Republican administration as payback for her husband’s daring to tell the truth to the American people. Both Wilsons are heroes and patriots. Any other viewpoint is based on partisan ignorance, treason, or both. You can parse away, you have nothing but your whining.

  40. Lefty Patriot says:

disagreement doesn’t mean racissm, but you trolls are, in fact, agroup of racists, afraid of anyone who coesn’t look like you and your whitebread “leadership” of scumsucking toadies. You have made no case, DC, and you have made a fool of yourself, once again. Libby was found guilty by a jury, and he had the best lawyers money could buy, usually resulting in a walk for a rich white man. He is as guilty as sin, and belongs behind bars for treason, but you will excuse him because Joe Wilson stood up to your bully-boy thiugs, and showed America what worthless, greedy assholes they (and you) are. Too bad, wingnut, take your medicine like a man istead of whining like a little baby.

  41. Lefty Patriot says:

Has it really been told? Where’s all the evidence? Where are all these people Plame referred to? Why didn’t she tell the committee this back in 2004?

Dreamcruiser, you must realize by now that the reason she didn’t make the same statement’s is because a partisan committee never asked the salient questions. Too bad for you, you lose again.

    next sucker.

  42. Lefty Patriot says:

Libby goes to jail for not keeping his story straight to a grand jury. Now this?

See, you ignorant pushole, Libby didn’t go to jail for “not keeping his story straight” ( we call it lying here in the real world), he was pardoned by a corrupt, America-hating, election-stealing coward. You have no concept of fact or truth.

Absolutely correct. Therefore I am calling the judicial system to free every inmate who has been convicted when the conviction is derived, in part, from the testimony of a family member. Additionally, I am calling for the instant dismissal of all justice and police officials who have participated in questioning a family member.

Waterboarding = good. Questioning brothers = bad.

  51. The Republic of Stupidity says:

Providing proof is not in the RNC Play Book. That book says, if they challenge you and ask you to prove what you are saying, head for the hills or introduce a strawman to change the subject. They have an entire chapter on the strawman argument.

  56. bilbobaggins says:

I know it is off topic but I have to say this.
