I think VerbalKint is onto something. For one thing, I doubt that Townsend sees herself as someone who would have to write this herself; the proper way people at her august level do things is to have some starry-eyed minion do the dirty work, then Frances makes a few edits, puts her signature on the final copy, and it’s on to the medal-awarding ceremony with George. The key is the question mark at the end, with no accompanying notes. I’m sure Fran has no questions about herself, so this is something the minion put down, and the guess about the proper form of her name is as good as anything else.

What is really interesting to me here is the reference to “This Extraordinary moment in our nation’s history.”

In other words, this moment in history is not “challenging,” or “dangerous,” or any other adjective. When she says “extraordinary moment,” I can only suspect she is referring to the hostile takeover of our government by a ultra-right wing cabal.

That and probably a little dose of hubris at the significance of their own acts.

These guys could sure use a dose of modesty once and awhile.

It is certainly an odd tome from a creep to a twit, however it isn’t fair to characterize the way it is written considering it is a perfectly understandable use of the phrase when comparing them. You are such a man to napoleon dynamite or george 3rd might arouse them to no end. However the comparison by saying that he will be compared to all sorts of other boxed worm food should not have been taken out of context.
we always respect our dead. it is rare that it should be as a comparison to the living, but fran hits it right on the head. she would have to hit it on the head. but which head? Perhaps she just thinks the he is muy macho? she couldn’t be trying to appeal to the flower pot.
