Right-wing outlet World Net Daily chronicled Bill O’Reilly’s recent visit to soldiers in Afghanistan, noting that the Fox News star ate all his meals with the troops, generously allowed soldiers to take his picture, and brought Fox News goodies that quickly became “prized items“:
Servicemen flooded the chow halls, and some ran back to their quarters to pick up a digital camera, hoping for a souvenir of the visit. But the O’Reilly staff had thought ahead.
Pens, towels, “No-Spin” mugs, Fox News T-shirts and free copies of “Culture Warrior” were quickly distributed and have since become prized items.
UPDATE: Hosting the O’Reilly Factor last night, Laura Ingraham announced that O’Reilly would air his report “on the situation on the ground in Afghanistan” next Monday night.

Gotta give the man props for actually going over to see the troops.
The pimping himself with the merchandising… not so much…
November 20th, 2007 at 11:23 amIs the stuff he hands out ticking?
November 20th, 2007 at 11:26 am“Free copies of Culture Warrier”.
Only way to distribute the book.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:28 amAny of that swank “No Spin” Body Armor?
November 20th, 2007 at 11:32 amNo loofahs? No falafels?
November 20th, 2007 at 11:33 amThe troops are free to accept O’Reilly’s gear, or to reject them. Similarly, they are free to either accept some of this opinions, or reject them.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:36 amIs this a negligee thing, or…
November 20th, 2007 at 11:37 amthere’s no preferential treatment here, is there? they ought to let Keith Olbermann or Amy Goodman visit the troops…
November 20th, 2007 at 11:37 amfree copies of “Culture Warriorâ€
–Yes, you see: no consumer actually pays for the thing.
The clubby neo-con network of think tanks, megachurches and talk shows buys up each other’s latest screed by the truckload, then hand them out for free (to whoever would actually touch the things) to their audiences during media events, church services, etc.
The volume book-buys get the asswipe-in-hardcover on the bestseller lists, but they mostly end up in landfill.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:37 amNo way in hell I’d allow something BillO wrote sully up my bookshelves.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:41 amGood for him for going to visit the troops. Doesn’t make him any less of an ass, though.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:47 amLet’s face it, anyone handing out almost any sort of freebie would have folks lined up for the freebie. Look at the crowd at any trade show.
The real test is what becomes of the items 6 months later.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:47 amDid any of the troops ask O’Reilly about his adventures in Vietnam? It is rather amazing that these soldiers do not find it hypocritical for people like O’Reilly [and Bush and Cheney and Trent Lott and Mitch McConnell and Rush Limbaugh, et al] to advocate war while someone like O’Reilly, this American superpatriot, managed to mysteriously avoid serving in Vietnam while a military draft was still in effect. Perhaps this is O’Reilly’s way of vicariously being in the military, being around those in the military who end up fighting in a combat zone and pushing his pro-war agenda while this superpatriot critiques the action from the safety of his Fox “News” studio.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:49 amThe book will come in handy when the latrines are out of shitwipe.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:49 amBless BillO’s heart. He knows that toilet paper is in short supply and his book is a handy substitute. If I’m thirsty in a desert I’ll drink from a “I love Bush” mug. As for his t-shirt, it will go nicely next to the “I’m with stupid” shirts.

November 20th, 2007 at 11:58 amThe logo should have been: “NO SPIN - JUST SOLID, UNADULTERATED LIES AND BULLSHIT” instead and then it would have been more accurate.
Giving away freebies, regardless of how worthless it is, gets a rise out of human beings. Big Deal, Loofah Bill, Big Deal!

No, but he brought love and encouragement to the troops (something that your party is not accustomed to doing).
November 20th, 2007 at 12:00 pmI’m surprised O’Liely didn’t hand out falafels or loofahs myself since they appear to be his special area of expertise.
November 20th, 2007 at 12:01 pmWhen was the last time that a Democrat, besides Kucinich, has advocated, in order to prevent more soldiers from being blown for no justifiable reason, that those troops be immediately withdrawn from that abattoir in Iraq?

Daryll actually thinks that FOX News might report on a Democrat or a progressive visiting and supporting the troops. Has anyone ever heard FOX report one of Al Franken’s frequent visits?

November 20th, 2007 at 12:17 pmThe premise that Bush’s actions have made our nation safer is ultimate bullshit.
November 20th, 2007 at 12:20 pmDarryll, please pull your head out of your …bum.
Obviously the lack of oxygen in your colon has caused brain damage, as evidenced by your continual parroting of that loathesome Repuke talking point that Democrats and liberals “hate the troops.”
You’re an idiot if you believe that crap, and for some reason, today, I find you more annoying than usual. So do us ALL a favor and just shut the eff up, ya moron.

Really?
November 20th, 2007 at 12:25 pmWhat do you call invading a country that posed no threat to the U.S.?
What do you call stretching the military to the breaking point?
What do you call creating enemies all over the world through a unilateralist foreign policy?
What do you call allowing returning injured soldiers to rot in squalid conditions at Walter Reed?
What do you call not providing psychological counseling to soldiers suffering from PTSD?
What do you call hindering the ability of the National Guard to respond to wildfires and tornadoes at home because their equipment and personnel is in Iraq?
If that’s not “exemplifying negativity towards the security of our nation” then I don’t know what is.
What do you call
I’m sure that the families of the soldiers who were able to acquire a piece of O’Rielly gear will cherish it if their son or daughter is killed. What a great reminder of the sacrifice their child was to this illegal administration.

darryll, your rightard-friendy press and government refuse to publicize the many visits Democrats and liberals have made to the troops, including Al Franken, Sean Penn and many others. Your ignorance is your only consistency, still, and you have made a fool of y8ourself here, while O’Reilly the chickenhawk coward goes to sell his lies and antiAmericanism to the poor and ignorant who are the only ones signing up for this wrongheaded mass-murder. Why aren’t y8ou there, fighting and supporting the troops? What about that mote in your own eye, bible-boy?
November 20th, 2007 at 12:32 pmO’Reilly particularly likes to hand out his own brand of vibrating dildos, with Christmas images painted on them to remind everyone of the war on Christmas. He calls them the “no-spin dildo”.
Here’s a link to the actual complaint filed by Fox producer Andrea Mackris against Bill O’Reilly for his endless string of obscene phone calls to her, of which she allegedly retained copies on audio tape:
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1013043mackris1.html
Count #66:
During the course of O’REILLY’s telephone monologue on August 2, 2004, he suggestd that Plaintiff ANDREA MACKRIS purchase a vibrator and name it, and that he had one “shaped like a little c_ock with a little battery in it” that a woman had given him. It became apparent that Defendant was masturbating as he spoke. After he climaxed, Defendant O’REILLY asid to Plaintiff: “I appreciate the fun phone call. You can have fun tonight. I’ll appreciate it. I mean it.” Plaintiff felt as if the floor had fallen out from beneath her. She was shocked, frightened and upset. She felt trapped.
Count #81:
During the course of Defendant BILL O’REILLY’s sexual rant, it became clear that he was using a vibrator upon himself and that he ejaculated. Plaintiff was repulsed.

Yes, this is one of the scattered bits of wisdom to be found in that entire batshit-crazy, inconsistent, oft-hateful tome.
I for one am loath to base my life on a 2,000+ year old collection of tales cobbled together by half-mad desert dwellers.
But then, I think with my brain.

yes, there are some oreilly fans in the Army. Also, there are gays, muslims, mexicans, phD’s, and radical, white-supremacist gang members. See, the Army is really big, and when you have a really big number of people, you’ll tend to get what’s called a “cross-section” of our population, which includes all kinds of people, some good, some bad, and some in between in all kinds of places.
November 20th, 2007 at 3:06 pmBut how can that be when all the troops hate Conservatives? Something is wrong here.

Something is wrong indeed.
Your strawman premise.
November 20th, 2007 at 3:09 pmDaryl, To answer one question, Biden visits the ME quite often.
In response to your remark about dems not bringing “love and encouragement” to the troops…dems tried to give our troops a LARGER raise than bush wanted…dems have worked diligently to make sure the troops have adequate armor and equipment…dems supported bills to give the troops equal time at home with their families after deployment…to me that is pretty damn loving
If I wanted to DISCOURAGE the troops, I’d do what the republican administration has done…hide everything in secrecy, keep returning battle-worn troops to the field over and over…keep redefining “victory”…deny them as many benefits as possible…fund a private army that gets paid 3-4 times what the troops do…demonize any soldier who returns but doesn’t agree verbatim with bush policies…
Yes, I can see how your party loves the troops–NOT!
sure if I was a soldier, I’d just LOVE this kind of republican encouragement…
