A few readers wrote in and shared their thoughts about what keeps them coming back to ThinkProgress each day:
Leftside Annie:
George Orwell said, “In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” At ThinkProgress, the Second Revolutionary War to take back America has already started – and it’s being fought by an army of smart, funny, spirited and passionate progressives who aren’t afraid to speak truth to power. You can help: please support our troops!
gummitch:
What I have found at ThinkProgress has been a great source of news and perspective, fostering a strong sense of a community that cares passionately about each other, about our country, and about progressive causes.
Candyce:
When friends ask me where I get information on today’s politics, I send them to my blog of choice, Think Progress. I start my day with ThinkFast, and depend on Think Progress for timely news updates throughout the day, in-depth coverage of ongoing issues with historical context, and exclusive reporting. I also appreciate the community of users, who contribute thoughtful content to the discussion. There are many choices for those of us seeking commentary on issues, but I have found Think Progress to be the singular best-researched, reliably sourced website that meets my need to keep up-to-date on the issues of the day.

November 20th, 2007 at 1:30 pmThinkProgress should be required reading for all Congresscritters (and erstwhile “journalists”). That way they would have the ammo to respond to the RW Mighty Wurlitzer crapola whenever it crops up.

Like this:
“Stem Cell research will lead to cures for Diabetes, MS, Parkinson’s and this is against God’s Will and Plan for Suffering. Besides Pharmaceuticals make tons of money off of disease and we all have stocks in them. The most important aspect is Life Extension and Potential Biological Immortality. This would assuredly put religion out of business. How would we keep the FEAR in people?”
November 20th, 2007 at 1:33 pmGummitch, you rock.

My understanding is that they won’t trash it. Isn’t their issue with stem cell research specifically with embryonic stem cell research, as opposed to adult stem cell research?

Exactly! TP is my first read of the day. A day without TP, is like a day without truth. I can’t live without it.
November 20th, 2007 at 1:36 pmI agree with Annie, gummitch and Candyce. I have been a regular at TP since it began. TP and its parent, Center for American Progress, are the best sources of the news and the news behind the news.
November 20th, 2007 at 1:36 pmUnfortunately, what keeps many people coming back to TP is the sparring with trolls. You wonder which is the greater insult, scorn or indifference.
November 20th, 2007 at 1:44 pmI’ve been coming to TP for some time now. What keeps me coming back is the initial thread that sparks the discussion. But more than that, I value the insight that so many other posters contribute. I’ve found many more links to information from reading their posts.
The trolls do have a place here. They allow others to define their position.
I truly am thankful for this site and the many great posters that keep me thinking progress.
November 20th, 2007 at 1:52 pmWhat makes me think twice about TP: censorship and political obtuseness (see, e.g., Sibel Edmonds).
November 20th, 2007 at 2:01 pmI keep coming back to TP because I like discussions about the Mother Issue of Our Time censored.
It’s great living in United States of China.
November 20th, 2007 at 2:06 pmI keep coming back to TP because I like discussions about the Mother Issue of Our Time (9/11) — censored.
It’s great living in United States of China.
November 20th, 2007 at 2:06 pm#6,
My point was more or less tongue in cheek.
November 20th, 2007 at 2:19 pmIt seems to me that they like to boil this topic down to the sanctity of cells (not the sanctity of life because as we all know from the conserv666ative perspective the only sanctified life is that of them and their children, and I think if pressed they’d sacrifice their children) so I’m awaiting their convoluted argument about the sanctity of skin cells.
14 – it’s the pre-born the Republicans care about.
After they’re born, not so much.
November 20th, 2007 at 2:34 pmCongrats, Leftside Annie, gummitch & Candyce.
I enjoy your posts and your insight into today’s troubling times.
I sometimes surf other sites, particularly The Zoo, but find myself back
here most of the time. I’ve been passionate about politics, human rights
and global sustainability for a long time. (Yes, Squeege, I should get out
more!). Thanks to TP, as well. People, Passion & Politics would be a
good descriptor for TP. ‘Troll Place’ would be bothersome.

I hear that stem cells and some surgery can fix that for you nowadays.

Yah you do, why not come up to Rochester for a bike ride, and then some flawed republican logic / banter over a burger and beer.
Squeege,
November 20th, 2007 at 3:15 pmThe only bike I ride is a Harley, but thanks for the invite.
Thanks, Zim – as a fairly new poster here, I was terribly flattered to see my comment up there!! (I’m also easily amused….heh.)
I’m really impressed by the ‘regulars’ here (could do without the trolls, even though they *are* occasionally amusing) – some very, very smart and funny people, and I’m thrilled to have found you all.
November 20th, 2007 at 3:15 pm“The probability that we may fail in the struggle ought not to deter us from the support of a cause we believe to be just.”
“I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crises. The great point is to bring them the real facts.”
Abraham Lincoln
Thanks TP. It’s comforting to see it reaffirmed on a daily basis that true patriotism isn’t just a bumper sticker and an American flag pin.
November 20th, 2007 at 3:24 pmw00t! good on yas!
.
i’m just in for a break/breather… reminded of something from
randi rhodes’ site:
Despite public opposition, the Chairman of the FCC is going to allow big media to swallow up MORE MEDIA. You have until December 11th to let the FCC, Congress, and the White House know what you think.
Contact the FCC here.
i still don’t get why ThinkProgress is not covering this…
beginning to wonder… i don’t even like to think such things…
but this is a MAJOR, SUPER IMPORTANT issue…
you need to make sure you help STOP BIG MEDIA.
November 20th, 2007 at 3:24 pm.
I wonder if the commenters would have been as glowing with their praise if they had borne witness to the rampant censorship of Sibel Edmonds-related posts on the Waxman thread yesterday…

Whoever controls the media controls the country. Period.
Our country was sold the Iraq war on the strength of 2,000 AM radio station propagandists repeating a talking point, namely the lie that Iraq was an immediate threat to America. If there had been a competing point of view on radio the lie never would’ve survived. And 1.2 million Iraqis would be alive, 4000 American soldiers would be with their families and 2 trillion dollars would still be in our treasury. I hope this illustrates just how important controlling the media is. And why the Republicans fight so hard to maintain total control of it.

Call me cynical, but when I first saw this thread I thought it was intneded as an apology from TP for that craziness yesterday.
November 20th, 2007 at 4:02 pmIt’s not an apology from TP, it’s spin. That’s what they are good at. Any site that refuses to allow informed discussion of a legitimate topic like Sibel Edmunds, isn’t a “Progressive” site; it’s a “Gatekeeper”.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:01 pmrepublicans hate facts sez:
That does not follow. If you had been present during the censorship of the Waxman thread, you would know what willyloman is talking about. Since you obviously were not, I suggest you get the facts straight before you shoot your mouth off.
That’s just plain stupid. Again, it’s obvious you have no idea what the issue is, and you’re just taking an opportunity to take a cheap shot at someone you erroneously perceive to be a ‘wingnut’. The fact that you accuse us of being “poorly informed” while doing so is exactly the sort of stupid irony I’ve come to expect from the trolls here at TP.
November 21st, 2007 at 8:32 amNow that this site has been busted for censorship, why should any fair-minded person trust its content?
November 24th, 2007 at 6:13 pmAnd, yeah, I’ll check from another computer!
