In a press conference this afternoon in Mississippi, Sen. Trent Lott said that the looming ethics restrictions “didn’t have a big role” in his decision to retire. He added that he has spoken with former Senate colleagues who tell him “a lot of what you do anyways is involved with consulting rather than direct lobbying.” Lott said he has no opportunities lined up at this time, but he floated the idea of perhaps returning to work for a Mississippi law firm. Watch it:
“Liar liar pants on fire’ comes to mind
November 26th, 2007 at 1:03 pmTrent Lott said that the looming ethics restrictions “didn’t have a big role†in his decision to retire.
Didn’t have a big role? I would think that a solid denial of the rumor would more go something like this:
The looming ethics restrictions “didn’t have ANY role†in his decision to retire.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:03 pmRotts of ruck on that-not!
November 26th, 2007 at 1:04 pmNo doubt a Mississippi law firm that represent clients to corporate and governmental interests… ( a lobbyist)…
November 26th, 2007 at 1:07 pmRight you are RUCerious, anything a Fascist Repukian Scumlord says has got to be questioned, it’s not like they ever tell the whole truth anyway.

November 26th, 2007 at 1:09 pmThis is the same guy who looked into the camera during an interview on Election Night 1996 as Clinton was beating Dole, and announced that Clinton’s electoral lead meant nothing, and that Dole would hold on to win the election and he would get down to the business of “getting our economy back on track.”
For those of you who remember the 90’s, the economy was booming at the time. Yet Lott wanted to plant the idea that there was something wrong with the economy and only Dole could save it.
Lott will say anything — no matter how stupid — to the American people. Why? Because he thinks we’re idiots and will believe him.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:12 pmHis toupee looks like it’s some kind of experimental military technology.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:12 pm“he floated the idea of perhaps returning to work for a Mississippi law firm.”
Maybe he heard about Ashcroft’s recent windfall? See my comment #31 on the previous Lott thread.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:13 pmThen what did tater-Lott?

November 26th, 2007 at 1:20 pmIs there an investigation going on that is getting close to Lott?
November 26th, 2007 at 1:28 pmYeah, right.
And pigs fly. And I’m the Pope. AND Miss Universe.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:28 pmWhat, no gay sex scandal? How unRepublican!
November 26th, 2007 at 1:31 pmSo, why else would he want to suddenly vacate a spot he just won re-election for under a year ago? Isn’t that a kick in the pants to Mississippi voters? They re-elect him, and he decides to leave in just under a year.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:32 pmMaybe he needs to be investigated just because he’s leaving so suddenly. That might keep others from running for seats they intend to vacate before their term expires.

Of course it’s a kick in the pants to the Mississippi voters. But it’s not like Lott cares about them. The voters were only useful to him every six years. And now they won’t be needed by him at all — he’ll only be dependent upon corporate fat cats and other special interests willing to pay insane lobbying fees.
And Lott doesn’t even know (or care) how incredibly transparent he’s being. If I was a Mississippi Republican who voted for him, I’d be doing everything I could to trash him right now.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:42 pmTrent Lott was instrumental in getting the law changed as to how many medias could be owned by one person. Guess Rupert Murdock will be finding a place for Lott.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:42 pmHe’s being half-truthfull (as usual)…it didn’t play a “big” role –
IT PLAYED THE ONLY ROLE!!!
WHAT A HACK….
November 26th, 2007 at 1:47 pmDid Clinton’s administration have so many people resign a year before it ended ? I don’t remember so many people leaving.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:53 pmLet’s hope, if above statement is true (snicker), that he’s resigning over some pending indictment (we can only pray)!
November 26th, 2007 at 1:58 pmTrent Lott – Republican Swine with a Toupee
November 26th, 2007 at 2:22 pmWe saw Fatass Hastert flea before his involvement with narcotics became news – wonder what “skeleton” is jumping out of Trent Lott’s closet right now? Won’t be long before we know the sad, ugly truth.
November 26th, 2007 at 2:22 pmHe may believe that he’s joining the industry he protected but he may also be in for a very rude awakening when an lawsuit comes his way.
November 26th, 2007 at 2:23 pmReturning to work for a Mississippi law firm? Yeah right. More likely a federal penal institution.
November 26th, 2007 at 2:29 pmTrent Lott’s departure just one year into his new term strikes me as a serious slap in the face to the voters of Mississippi. It is amazing to me that he would run in an election when he clearly had no intention of serving out his term. They just passed the pork-filled bill for Katrina reconstruction. Any guess as to which pork barrel is going to fund Mr. Lott’s retirement?
November 26th, 2007 at 3:28 pmLott: Lobby ban ‘didn’t play in big role’ in decision.
Translation: It’s the ONLY reason he resigned.
November 26th, 2007 at 3:35 pmHA HA HA HA!!!!!
“Lobby” my ass!! Just maybe it’s the pending revelations of his gay escort tell-all . . . .
Check out http://WWW.BIGHEADDC.com or see Andrew Sullivan today . . . seems old Lot likes those discreet gay escort services of young studs . . . just another hippy-crite Republican practicing “I got mine -Screw YOU” Family Values . . . gotta thank the pressure and work of Mr Flint and his Crusade . . .
‘course grubbin’ at the pork barrel Lobby would go a long way to getting his house rebuilt in time for Bush to rock on the porch before the flight to the Hague . . .
Now we need to find out why his closet kin Mitch was discharged from the Army after 10 days . . .
Nothing wrong with gay – the evil is repressing their rights and propagating hate while maintaining a private wide stance . . .
This election: (R) MEANS REMOVE.
November 26th, 2007 at 5:42 pmLott said he has no opportunities lined up at this time, but he floated the idea of perhaps returning to work for a Mississippi law firm.
He needs to hire a law firm outside of Mississippi (for quality and intelligence) based on the connections coming up between Sen Ted Stevens and his son Ben and the Corrupt Bastards Club and Trent himself!!!
Lott is going to prison if the DoJ is no longer corrupt!! Hhahaaahaa!!
DoJ not corrupt? Hahahaahahaahahaaaa!!!!
November 26th, 2007 at 7:24 pmlooming ethics restrictions “didn’t have a big roleâ€
Yeah, sure, Lott. And bears don’t s**t in the woods either.
November 26th, 2007 at 9:46 pm…AND IF YOU BELIEVE THATYALL…WELL THEN I GOTTA BRIDGE TO NOWHERE IN ALASKA I’D LIKE TO SELL YA…FOR A FRIEND OF MINE YALL UNNERSTAND? UNDER SILLY INDICTMENTS AND ALL THAT THERE FUSSY BUDGETY THANGS…YOU KNOW THAT I LOBBY FOR? AN ALL?
November 27th, 2007 at 4:45 amThe lobby ban didn’t play a big role in it. His being a closet-case gay had everything to do with it. Gay gay gay. So very gay.
