K Street firms eyeing Lott for his ability to ’schmooze.’

The U.S. News Political Bulletin reports that Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) is already a hot commodity on K Street:

Among those expected to be interested is the legal-lobbying power house Patton Boggs. But the associates also said that at least two unidentified investment houses with operations in Washington are interested in bring Lott onboard. K Street insiders said that Lott’s ability to make deals and schmooze allies and enemies is legendary.

The Progress Report has more on Lott’s “deals.”

K Street may want to hold off until Larry Flynt finishes his research.

  2. dumbstruck says:

    Yea, he’s hot alright!

  3. Proud American Liberal says:

Schmoozing is easy when you are made entirely of pig fat.

  4. raynman says:

Apparently, it really doesn’t matter if you’re under a cloud of suspicion, as long as you can bring in the big money.

If he actually gets convicted, then he’s made a partner…

    Fourteen Defining Characteristics of Fascism

#13. Rampant cronyism and corruption. Those in business circles and close to the power elite often used their position to enrich themselves. This corruption worked both ways; the power elite would receive financial gifts and property from the economic elite, who in turn would gain the benefit of government favoritism. Members of the power elite were in a position to obtain vast wealth from other sources as well: for example, by stealing national resources. With the national security apparatus under control and the media muzzled, this corruption was largely unconstrained and not well understood by the general population.

  6. Leftside Annie says:

Yuck. Schmooze, huh? Remove the “schm” and you’ve got Trent Lott.

  7. stewarjt says:

Sure if schmooze means lay with a male prostitute.

You know, I had been so focused on what reason(s) Lott had for resigning that I missed a kind of “larger picture” one that was pointed out in the linked U.S. News Political Bulletin.

Lott knows that if he stays in the Senate, he is going to be a minority party member for a long time. This is something we all knew, but apparently the Repubs are now admitting it. I assumed that all the Repub Senators who said they were retiring or not seeking re-election next year were doing so because they were trying to distance themselves from Bush/Cheney and didn’t want to have to run for re-election on a record of supporting them. And that may still be a large factor, but the simple truth is that they are resigned to being the minority for the forseeable future. And they know it. They know they won’t get either a House or Senate majority in 2008 — in fact, their numbers will dwindle.

Yeah, OK — I’m think as a plank. But I eventually catch on.

I am glad he is getting out of Washington; however, it sure hightlights the fact that he is more concerned with money and self interest than public service and this country.

Where are the real patriots? So many joined the military to lay down their lives to uphold the principles that this country was founded on, but the people that sent them into an unjustified war, to die, can’t even complete the service to this country they campaigned to get. It is more important that they secure extravagant wealth than the country they are entrusted to protect.

Does anyone else see something horribly wrong with this?

They should change the oath of office to be:
“I promise to uphold and defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic
unless someone offers me tons of money, in which case, screw you and this country!”

  10. Tender Chicken says:

Trent Lott is gay? Who knew? Try everybody. Another wide-stancer outed. Pity.

  11. Starve-A-Bush_Feed-A-Beaver says:

Schmoozing means meeting Republican men in airport restrooms? I guess that’s how Republicans prefer to do their lobbying.

  12. clintatl says:

Gonna be kinda hard to schmooze from prison.

  13. Buckie Boy says:

I think they meant “Spooge” with Hot Male Escorts on K Street.

  14. patooty says:

Lott’s ability to schmooze is just another word for his ability to bull*hit his way through life.

  15. patooty says:

Sure it’s going to come out. Lott’s promiscuity on K Street with the male prostitutes.

  16. wisedup says:

After all these years, look at the state of Mississippi. What a fine job he has done, no POVERTY, a booming state with tons of money for the people. With that track record, he can come and clean up my front yard for MINIMUM wage.

  17. uluro says:

We the People should demand legislation to prevent ANY former Representative or Senator from EVER becoming a lobbyist in any capacity for ANY company. As a retired Senator he’ll receive a fat pension for life plus health insurance. I could use some of those retirement bennies too.

In other words, Trent Lott will make the ideal whore.
