Giuliani billed city agencies for personal trips.

As New York City mayor, Rudy Giuliani “billed obscure city agencies for tens of thousands of dollars in security expenses amassed during the time when he was beginning an extramarital relationship with future wife Judith Nathan in the Hamptons.” Politico reports:

giulianithu.jpg The documents, obtained by Politico under New York’s Freedom of Information Law, show that the mayoral costs had nothing to do with the functions of the little-known city offices that defrayed his tabs, including agencies responsible for regulating loft apartments, aiding the disabled and providing lawyers for indigent defendants. [...]

When the city’s fiscal monitor asked for an explanation, Giuliani’s aides refused, citing “security,” said Jeff Simmons, a spokesman for the city comptroller.

But American Express bills and travel documents obtained by Politico suggest another reason City Hall may have considered the documents sensitive: They detail three summers of visits to Southampton, the Long Island town where Nathan had an apartment.

I’m worried you’re correct, it seems this “America’s Mayor” crap isn’t just teflon, it’s kevlar. Why can’t America see this man for what he is, a person for whom 9/11 was the best thing ever to happen in his miserable life and that he will stop at nothing to exploit it in any way he can?

Because Americans, for the most part, are politically lazy and uninformed. The simple right vs. left or him vs. her arguments seem to catch their attention. Once too many variables enter the picture – or too many scandals come all at once – they run and hide. For them it is nearly impossible to remember who said (or did) what last year – or even last month.

That is why the founding fathers thought this would be a great experiment (democracy) because they wondered if ‘normal’ folks would really want to take part in the messy daily details of politics. Most don’t.

I believe that is why the right side dearly craves a monarch. It would remove so many untidy decisions they would be forced to make – all by themselves. Independant thought is their own self inflicted worry.

After Bush’s reign, we have nothing left to sell the Chinese. After he stopped selling, he just gave it to them. Then Bush started borrowing from them by the truckload. Now we have a massive, horrendous debt owed to the Chinese, along with tons of military equipment Bush decided the Chinese needed.

Chris & Wayne: You do realize that Hillary’s roots are Republican. She worked on GOP campaigns when she was still in high school and college. She’s a Republican in Dem clothing – a wolf in sheep’s clothing as it were.

Hillary is Bush Lite and cannot be trusted. She’s a “war monger” and can’t defend her vote to enable the war in Iraq. One of the key individuals in her campaign is involved with Blackwater. Are the Clintons intimately tied to Blackwater as well. The dirt will come out, no doubt about it.

I don’t like Hillary because she’s indebted to all of the corporate special interest groups for all of her money. Essentially, she’s a “bought and paid for candidate” – we’ve learned the hard way how that doesn’t work for this country at all.

The infatuation to which you refer by the reichwingnuts is simply the fact that they believe that Hillary will be another Bush, but with longer hair and a different chromosomal genetic pool. They KNOW she’s part of the elitist washington establishment which protects the rich and craps on the poor.

A vote for Hillary is a vote for George W. Bush all over again. She talks the talk but you know that she doesn’t “walk the talk”. A more authentic candidate would be Obama, Edwards, or Kucinich.

It’s time for americans to stand up to the sycophantic media whores and their corporations who think that they can run this country with their spin, drivel, and outright lies. Southern Man is corretcomundo on one small portion of his statement: Rudy Giuliani is a Mayor – end of discussion. Rudy is illustrative of the “peter principle” in action. 59. NoOneYouKnow says:

Actually, S+M, that should read “you’re a smart one.” Proving our point.
But as someone who lived in NYC during the Giuliani years, let me try to dismantle your delusions:

Rudy didn’t clean up NYC; his first police commissioner, Bill Bratton, did, using a system he’d started under David Dinkins. When Bratton started to get positive press for his accomplishments, Giuliani got jealous and fired him, first bringing in Howard “Nastiest Man in the World” Safer and then Bernie “Soon to be Imprisoned” Kerik. However, under Rudy the NYPD quickly increased their numbers on police brutality, police killings, illegal searches, profiling, etc. Rudy’s disdain of non-white people was the model they followed, though I imagine you’re fine with that.

Rudy wasn’t a model of leadership or heroism on 9/11. He was scuttling around downtown, trying not to get smooshed, because he’d put his emergency command center on the 21st floor of 7WTC — just across the street from the target for the previous terrorist strike in a building with thousands of gallons of diesel fuel in its basement. There’s also some serious question about Rudy’s version of his actions that day, suggesting he may have spent some of the morning being led around, not leading.
Rudy was responsible for the firefighters not having workable radios. Rudy’s responsible for all the remains found in a garbage dump. Rudy claims he was at Ground Zero “more than any rescue worker”, which the workers say is a lie.

Also, Rudy’s still not out of the woods legally. He wears World Series rings that he’s not entitled to that cost tens of thousands each; he’s still not said who paid for them. Bernie Kerik knows where all the bodies are buried, and Bernie’s ex, Judith Regan apparently knows enough as well to sink Rudy. Either one of them is likely to talk under oath.

I could go on for days; before you back Rudy, you’d better take a good look at him, or you’ll think Dumbya was Mr. Rogers, and that won’t be good for you, either.

I promise to be respectful. Our economy has serious problems right now. Most serious is the home foreclosures occuring right now. For every foreclosure, there are 5-10 folks just ‘hanging on’. They are one or two paycheks away from losing their homes. That is bad – for consumers and banks.

2nd is the free fall of the value of the dollar against the major currencies. This is a huge issue and I would suggest you research this. As our currency loses value around the world, more dollars are required to purchase foreign goods and services (like purchasing oil and obtaining credit).

3rd is our ever shrinking higher paid workforce – typically maunfacturing. These folks are the absolute backbone of the middle class. They earn enough to have disposable income and plan for their future. They pay more in taxes and usually send their kids to college (which helps our future).

4th is the ever increasing debt burden which our children and grandchildren will inherit. Interest on that debt burden is about 15% of GDP right now. That is money we could spend on infrastructure, climate change, alternative energy, education, veterans assistance, etc…

So you can see the problems are not very fancy, but they are very important and they are accute. We need to address these if we are to remain a dominant economic force around the globe.

  65. Bobwurst says:

When will this myth be put to rest?

  68. JMOHR says:

    Southern man:

    1. Clinton did no more in terms of raising funds with visitors to the WH than have other presidents. Does not mean that we condone the conduct. However, I do remember receiving a number of calls from the Republicans telling me that I was being selected as an outstanding business man of the year and that I would serve on a special advisory counsel to the President. Of course, they expected a lot of political contributions in return. The Republicans also had their set fees for political dinners and such to have your photo taken with the President, meet with him and so forth. I like it from neither party. Your point really seems to be senseless.

    2. The Bush administration and congressional Republicans had to take it a step further. They just sell government. That was indeed the concept of the K Street Project. Its leader went so far as to keep a book of companies and how much they contributed. The Bush appointments to agencies also show clear favoritism to high rollers in the industries to be regulated. Oh year, their was Jack Ab. Yes, the Republicans just sell the government to the highest business.

    3. The number of Republicans caught up in bribery scandals, influence peddling and sex scandals far surpasses any other administration in recent memory, Republican or Democratic.

    4. The personal lives of the leading Republican candidates evidence an astounding number of affairs and divorces. Truly candidates of high moral background. Clinton had his problems. At least they were able to work them out and stay married. Julie has the class to tell his second wife that he is leaving her during his news conference. (Kinda like Gingrich rolling his wife on a divorce settlement while she was in the hospital fighting cancer) Julie’s children won’t even talk to him. Sorry, the Clinton saga pales in comparison. (Clinton was accused of a lot of things. They were all investigated by a Republican team and found nothing.)

    4. Julie did very little for NY. Every major US city showed lower crimes stats during his period of tenure. Many of “his” innovations actually started under the previous mayor. He was more noted for placing the emergency command center in the trade towers despite being told not to by state and federal agencies. He was the one who surrounded himself with such sterling characters as Kerik. The people of NY City and even conservative upstate NY turned against him when he ran against Hillary. These are the ones who could really judge his performance while you are merely a mindless Republican moron.

    5. Clinton did not help the economy? Read Greenspan’s book. He acknowledged that it was Clinton who best understood the economy and the actions necessary to steer it in the direction. But you would know better – idiot. Oh by the way, Southern hypocrite – you change your tune from comment 58 when you conceded that Clinton did have a good economy. I hate scum. You are scum.

What band are you in? 2,500? Must be fun! And to you.

    Comment by Southern Man

My band is called Mental Note. We play all over Southern California (LA, San Diego, Palm Springs). Even Vegas and Tahoe a few times a year.

  70. Lefty Patriot says:

I know you’ll spout out that I’m a dum bass who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, but you are wrong. I’d call you stupid but even your dolls know that.

    Comment by Southern Man — November 28, 2007 @ 5:28 pm

You may or may not be a dum bass, but you most certainly are either a liar or a fool. You have lied about Guliani and both clinton’s and you have been fooled by the GOP, the party of Treason, Theft and Mass Murder, so perhaps you’re both liar and fool. that might just make you a dumbass.

  71. Leftside Annie says:

Crap. Idiots like Southernman and his pals Billy and Roger DESERVE the kind of government we’ve gotten under thugs like Bush and Guiliani…

The problem is that the rest of us DON’T. And I, for one, am sick of government by thugs, for thugs and of thugs!

  72. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

Southern man, somewhere above you posted this: ““How about respond with facts stating why he was not a leader after 9/11.”

I responded with three cogent arguments in response (see#79) and you pretended not to notice that someone had actually honored your challenge with “facts stating why he was not a leader after 9-11.” If you don’t want to be treated like an a-hole around here, why not stop acting like an a-hole?

People who support this facist RePugniScum are, well, uh, facist RePugniScums!!

“She’s a power mad politician like him.”
    Comment by Southern Man — November 28, 2007 @ 5:58 pm

Of all the people running for the highest office in the land, the woman is the only one who wants power. And Bill Clinton? Sure. He had ambitions for power, but not Bob Dole or George HW Bush. And, certainly not W. Why W has never had any ambition to power at all, right southern guy?

  75. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

Southern guy: “No, the economy was stating to get better. Then Clinton announced taxes would rise and investors slowed down, thus the economy. Then, the dems lost the house and senate in 04, and investors statted to gain more confidence again.”

Land o’ goshen, that’s a nice little yarn, pardner! Just one problem. Clinton’s tax increase was in 1993. Among other things, he raised the top marginal rate (you know, the one the most wealthy pay) by 3%. Not only did no Repubs vote for it, but they predicted that it would send us into recession (Gingridge even said it would cause a depression.) The next year, the deficit started to go down, the economy started booming with the “dot-com” run and the economic expansion didn’t end until 2001. If you don’t believe me, check out that liberal rag, Forbes. They rate Clinton’s economic performance among the best in history.

  76. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

dbadass: “When will this myth be put to rest?”

It will be with us as long as paid corporate whores in the media pass it and dumb crackers buy it. But, according to Dr. Vint Cerf, the real “Father of the Internet,” no politician did more to facilitate the growth of the internet than Senator Al Gore.

    Right on point Col.

Recent studies have shown that the economy has historically performed better under DemoRats than RePugniScums. If you want to make money for yourself vote for a DemoRat. If you want to make money for your boss and his boss and his boss then vote RePugniScum!!

However, both parties suck at the teets of the super wealthy and screw us all everyday 24/7!!!

  78. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

JMOHR: “The number of Republicans caught up in bribery scandals, influence peddling and sex scandals far surpasses any other administration in recent memory, Republican or Democratic.”

I agree, but let’s not forget the 132 indictments during Reagan or the crushing corruption of the Hoover administration. By sheer coincidence, both Republican administrations.

  79. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

You know, dixie blood, as a yankee, I sometimes revert to old prejudices about southerners, especially after annoying interactions with “Southern Man,” but your posts always pull me back to earth and remind me that I’ve known many awsome southerners in my life. Thanks. I would remind you though, that of the two parties, the Dems are the party of unions, public education, Medicare, Social Security, rural electrification, civil rights, womens’ rights and a host of other things most of us take for granted. Yes, both parties must feed at the corporate teat, but Dems are the only ones talking about fixing that as well with public financing of elections and media regulation.

  80. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

One more thing about Bill Clinton and the economy. The guy was a Rhodes Scholar in ECONOMICS! He presented a plan for the economy which included targeted tax cuts and economic help for working people and a higher marginal rate on our most wealthy. We all know what happened. Reagan sat there like a stone listening to Milton Friedman pontificate and the media called it “Reaganomics!” Why didn’t they call what happened in the 90’s “Clintonomics?” Because THEY are not a liberal media, that’s why.

Including the 40 hour work week, paid overtime, the minimum wage and no more child/female/exploited labor….

Unless it’s overseas…then both parties look the other way. Money makes that happen. Money makes fasism happen. Money props up dictatorships. Money corrupts democracy!!

  82. Joefriday says:

This is REAL odd. Neither CNN or MSNBC have the Guiliani story but, Fox has it as their main news story. They are screwing with our minds.

Exactly Sir and all Mr. Gore ever said was that he worked hard to see to it that this fine project was properly funded.

  84. Sabyen91 says:

Who doesn’t know Giuliani is a crook by now? Wait until he wins the primary before attacking the honesty of this c0cksucker.
