A federal grand jury indicted outgoing GOP Sen. Trent Lott’s brother-in-law, Richard “Dickie” Scruggs, today “on charges that he and four other men tried to bribe a Mississippi state court judge.” Scruggs and his associates allegedly conspired to “bribe Mississippi Third Circuit Court Judge Henry L. Lackey with at least $40,000 in cash” after “Scruggs’ firm was named as a defendant in a dispute involving $26.5 million in attorneys’ fees.” The group of Mississippi attorneys in the indictment also include a former state auditor and Lott’s nephew Zach.
Has nothing to do with Trent, right? Brother in law – nephew, those are just people. You can’t choose your family you know.
November 28th, 2007 at 10:26 pmWow can Trent-I-wish-strom-had-been-elected-president be more sleazy?
Actually, I always thought Dickie Scruggs was classier and smarter than Trent. Good luck with the lobbying Singing Senator!
November 28th, 2007 at 10:34 pmI wonder if this allegation (and others) will implicate, and help explain, Trent Lott, and form one of the reasons for his SUDDEN resignation?

November 28th, 2007 at 10:41 pmI wonder if they were involved in the former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman case?
November 28th, 2007 at 10:41 pmThat will teach them. They only offered the judge $40,000 to win a $26.5 million dollar fee. No wonder the judge went to the FBI.
November 28th, 2007 at 10:50 pmActually, nambilaku, I think they are very much alike. Whether it is nature or nurture they are both scum.
November 29th, 2007 at 12:12 amOooo, Tracy, burn!!! Dems are finally picking up some Repub tactics.
November 29th, 2007 at 12:13 am40k on a 26 million dollar case?

I like how retired Brigadier General Kerr asked the question:
“I want to know why you think that American men and women in uniform are not professional enough to serve with gays and lesbians.”
He’s stating the question properly. Almost every NATO country allows gay people to serve openly. It seems as if the US has special problem by which that the majority of NATO countries don’t seem aflicted.
November 29th, 2007 at 7:07 amI wonder if the Clintons are going to give back the money they raised through the fundraiser at “Dickie†Scruggs house now that he has been indicted for bribery?

With all the money they have raised, I am sure they can afford to.
November 29th, 2007 at 10:49 amwonder who gace Lott the heads up?
November 29th, 2007 at 11:18 amEmptywheel has an interesting thread on Dick Scruggs – and the connection with another Democrat who was railroaded like political prisoner former Governor Don Siegleman. It sound like they may have some connection. Not even six degrees of separation between the corrupt.

His talk at the Univ of Colorado was focused on 9/!!, terroist and how we will deal with this “paradigm” shift in the threat to the U.S. He was still pushing we are the best country in the world “we’re number one” propaganda. Repeating that the reason that they hate us is due to our liberty. Sure the opposite of what Micheal Scheuer(the resigned head of the Osama bin Laden unit who has said they hate us because of our policies, military bases and the unbridled support of Israel no matter what they do.
Ashcroft and Scheuer’s thinking are miles apart.
The Univ of Colorado audience were rowdy and disrespectful at times. This left less time for pertinent questions.
” I was under sedation” Yeah right
Give Ashcroft credit for this–it’s a new twist on that old favorite: “No Comment.”
