CNN’s Brown calls MoveOn.org ‘American insurgents.’

Media Matters reports that during last night’s CNN special Campaign Killers: Why Do Negative Ads Work?, anchor Campbell Brown said: “General David Petraeus made his reputation taking on insurgents in Iraq. But when he came to Capitol Hill in September, he was confronted by American insurgents, a liberal anti-war group called MoveOn.org.”

  1. Namtillaku says:

I guess 70% of the American population are insurgents, we should start behaving more like an insurgent.

  2. legalwarrior says:

The comment by Campbell Brown is frankly offensive. It implies that those of us who do not agree with our occupation of Iraq and keeping of troops there including the escalation (”surge”) are insurgents and unAmerican.

    That is outrageous!

What is the point of having a 1st Amendment right of free speech if the speech can only be agreeing with the government. We used to call that USSR communism.

  52. Juan C. says:

The general BELIEF is that OBL praised, according to your Al-Jazeera reference, the 9/11 events. The general BELIEF even by regulars in this site (probably the 95% you mention in your poll) think that OBL was behind those attacks. However, the FBI has not yet confirmed that general knowledge regarding the OBL’s caution. How is that possible?

What do I think this imply? Well, probably nothing. If I was a warmongering employee of the US admin, I would release ASAP the Pentagon’s attack tape that FBI has under security. It would do so well as propaganda.

Now, if you ask me if the US govt had something to do with 9/11 events, I would answer: of course. Like anyone I know here, outside the US. I mean, they caused directly and undirectly the deaths of near one million people in Iraq, they have used WP in Fallujah, they have used DU back in 1991. It is not a matter of having proof anymore, it is a matter of common sense. Why would they feel bad by killing 3,000 people? Come on…

The evidence shows the opposite! In the summer of 1992, the poll of polls were exactly predicting the final outcome. Then Perot dropped out and endorsed Bill Clinton. Then the poll of polls showed Clinton with a 21% lead over GHWBush. Then Perot rejoined the race. Then the poll of polls exactly predicted the final outcome. HE WAS USING THE PROSECUTERS’ DEFINITION. Does you version really make any sense: Clinton was guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice–yet Republican senators voted that he was NOT and the federal judge specifically ruled that he was NOT? This is total nonsense!!!!

What is more important: Clinton receiving a BJ or the White House lying us into an illegal war (what the Plame case is really about) causing the deaths of 1.1 million civilians, creating 4.5 million refugees, turning Iraq into the second worst failed state in the world, costing US taxpayers $2-3 TRILLION that we don’t have, and creating a tremendous recruiting and training ground for our enemies, thus (according to the 16 intelligence agencies of the USA) making us LESS safe?

They gave the branch davidian cultish killers 51 days to come out! The little children were taught by DK that the best way to commit suicide was to place the gun barrel directly inside the mouth. They were very heavily-armed and declared that the US government was their enemy.

wiki:”Koresh declared that he was entitled to at least 140 wives, that he was entitled to claim any of the females in the group as his, that he had fathered at least a dozen children by the harem and that some of these mothers became brides as young as twelve or thirteen years old.”

One tear-gas grenade in a small corner of a huge compound did not cause the entire place to instantly explode. DK is on tape instructing the use of hay and gasoline to set up the self-destruction.

Reno was just following the letter of the law by senind the kid back to his father. His crazy mother almost killed him. I think he is better off now than constantly under the media spotlight here. At least he can get education and healthcare now.

    MOVE situation in Philadelphia?

Right you are, dbadass. They instantly bombed many innocent women and children there. Not 51 days of pleading. Guess it had something to do with their race.

You don’t have much conscience over nearly 4000 of our troops and 1,100,000 civilians dying, all based on a pact of lies. You equate it to receiving a BJ.

And it’s breaking our Army and Marines, costing us $2-3 Trillion that we don’t have, and is a tremendous boost to our enemies.

From crowd who uses words such as “nazis”, “fascists”, “zionists”, “war criminals”, “murderers”, etc, etc, to describe their political enemies, criticism of an exaggerated metaphor strikes me as a bit hypocritical.

it would be nice if they were just political enemies, but they are enemies of freedom and enemies of America. Your support of treason speaks volumes about your lack of character.

    >where that investigation also found no such thing.

Fitzy specificially said Libby’s perjury and obstruction prevented him from finding proof beyond a reasonable doubt of any other crimes of any other persons, this is a far cry from “found no such thing”, but then again, taking liberties with language is pretty much your modus operandi. Your writing is some of the most cumbersome and needlessly obtuse I’ve ever seen, and if your trying to sound cryptic or wise, don’t quit your dayjob, which almost certainly isnt something which requires a firm grasp of the english language.

“Well, I considered Clinton a Nazi when Janet Reno sent in the Stormtroopers to burn everyone out of David Koresh’s Branch Davidian Complex, and when the ole’ gator rasler Reno sent in the Stormtroopers again to take a child away from it’s family and send him to Casto’s Cuba…but other than that, Clinton was just a misguided good ole’ boy from Arkansas.
Carter? He was just the sorriest President this Nation has ever had to weather, but we corrected our mistake, big time, in 1980.”

    Comment by O. Bigfoot — November 30, 2007 @ 1:10 am

Come on, 0! Do you really believe Clinton and Reno had that lunatic and his cronies intentionally killed? That pretty much puts you on the same level as those who claim 9/11 was a government conspiracy or a hoax.

Carter may have failed as a president, but he’s a compassionate humanitarian, which is a hell of lot more than I can say of that demented simpleton you so admire. As far as “the sorriest President this Nation has ever had to weather”, that would be your current clown.

    Main Entry:

    1. in·sur·gent

    Function: noun
Etymology: Latin insurgent-, insurgens, present participle of insurgere to rise up, from in- + surgere to rise
    Date: 1765

1: a person who revolts against civil authority or an established government; especially : a rebel not recognized as a belligerent

2: one who acts contrary to the policies and decisions of one’s own political party

    Function: adjective
    Date: 1807

: rising in opposition to civil authority or established leadership: rebellious — in·sur·gent·ly adverb

“American Insurgent”, I like it! Where can I get a t-shirt. (back side “Impeach Bush”)

  104. Mugsy says:

Calling MoveOn members “insurgents” is hardly an insult. It’s a compliment. Only Right wingers that equate “insurgency” with “al-Qaeda in Iraq” would foolishly believe this to be an insult.

The American Colonists during the Revolutionary War were “insurgents”, and the British Redcoats were “the occupiers”. And “I” equate the opposition expressed by MoveOn members today with that exact same feeling… fighting King George’s oppression and dismissiveness of the American people.
