Disgraced Kerik vouches for Rudy’s character.

Earlier this week, Politico reported that as New York City mayor, Giuliani “billed obscure city agencies for tens of thousands of dollars in security expenses amassed during the time when he was beginning an extramarital relationship with future wife Judith Nathan in the Hamptons.” In a New York Times article today, disgraced Bernie Kerik, formerly Giuliani’s police commissioner, defended his friend:

Bernard B. Kerik, who was Mr. Giuliani’s police commissioner when some of the charges were billed, said in an interview yesterday that the security detail’s travel expenses would normally come out of the Police Department’s budget.

“There would be no need for anyone to conceal his detail’s travel expenses,” said Mr. Kerik, who was indicted earlier this month on unrelated federal tax fraud and corruption charges. “And I think It’s ridiculous for anyone to suggest that the mayor or his staff attempted to do so.

Earlier this month, a federal grand jury indicted Kerik on 14 counts, including conspiracy, making false statements, “mail fraud and wire fraud in the theft of honest services,” and more.

    Talk about a ringing endorsement.

That’s like Musharraf getting Bush to endorse his ‘democratic’ processes in Pakistan.

If this is the case, then WHY were they billed to those other “obscure” departments? Question still now answered in other words. And for Kirek to “vouch” for anyone is beyond laughable!

Sounds like a typical Repukian resume to me, all the true Conservative Values, but where is the Closeted Gay Value, oh, it doesn’t need to be said I guess.

Kerik praising Giuliani’s character is like Jeffrey Dahmer praising his culinary skills. If Giuliani’s smart, he’ll keep this out of his campaign literature.

Gee, I bet RUDEE was ovrjoyed to get THAT endorsement! Just a continuing reminder of the New York cesspool sludge that will start oozing out as November 08 approaches.

What about the security detail and city-paid transportation provided to Judi Nathan while Giuliani’s wife Danna Hanover was still living in Gracie Mansion and also receiving city protection? Would it been OK for Giuliani to have two or three mistresses at a time, all receiving city-paid security?

Last night, Tucker Carlson said he doesn’t know whether Giuliani had an affair. Republican voters will never learn about his extra-marital affair(s). That part of the brain is removed when they first register as Republicans.

  18. Menehune says:

13… depends. Is Fox even covering this? I’m sure they are willing to forgo their usual 24-hour non-stop sex scandal coverage if it protects their favored candidate. Anyhow they have their story: Bloodthristy Islamofascists want to execute teddybear teacher. And the football player who was killed. And the missing white woman and John Murtha saying the surge is kind of working. Just too many stories for the Giuliani story to get a spot… Now if it were Obama–that’s another story.

  19. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

shoeless: “Last night, Tucker Carlson said he doesn’t know whether Giuliani had an affair.”

Statements like this are why Tucker is about to get cancelled. Even republicans roll their eyes at some of his groaners. He can’t even say something like that with a straight face.

  20. gulfwargrunt says:

Thought experiment: Imagine if it were revealed today that Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, or John Edwards had a multi-month extra-marital affair in 1999-2000 (even minus the public funding angle), and the candidate admitted it but expressed no remorse?

How much TV coverage would that get, and would it force them out of the race?

That sounds more like Newt. Rudy was the one who announced it to his wife via a press conference. I guess he was hoping she had the tv on so she could gaze adoringly at him when he slid in the knife.

Bernie Kerik – there’s a great character witness for ya.

As for Tucker Carlson, the guy is a total joke. It won’t be long before the remaining 8 people watching his show will have to find something else on TV during that time slot.

“The practice [of spreading expenses among several different offices], [Joseph J. Lhota a former deputy mayor] said, was put in place to ensure timely payment.”

Yea right. Being an accountant, I prefer the following explanation. The practice of banging whores, by the mayor, shall be paid for by NYC taxpayers, and the expenses disguised under false pretenses by spreading them among the budgets of several deputy-mayoral offices.

Also, is the NYT’s running out of sources? Why do they find it necessary to interview and/or quote someone who is currently under indictment for lying to the federal government? I think the MSM is collapsing faster than the Republican Party, if that’s possible.

  40. shoeless says:

Do you think the prison will allow JulieAnnie to pay conjugal visits to Kerick.

  41. Namtillaku says:

    Glenn Greenwald addresses this nicely, as the trip expenses are a red herring;

Speaking of good reporting, The Politico’s Ben Smith did some of his own with the substantial investigative work to uncover the suspicious accounting practices involved in Giuliani’s trips to visit his then-mistress. I still don’t quite understand what the scandalous aspect of the story is. All NYC Mayors have constant security protection — including when they engage in their secret recreational activities — and the accounting shenanigans seem designed to conceal his adultery, not any financial improprieties. Still, the matter is clearly of public interest and the reporting done to uncover it was impressive.

By contrast, clear, undeniable corruption is self-evident in yesterday’s story of Giuliani’s assigning police resources to chauffeur his mistress. Whether illegal or not, it is tantamount to stealing city resources. That is a completely separate issue from the murkier story uncovered by Smith and it’s hard to imagine any plausible defense to it.

    Comment by CaptainMantastic — November 30, 2007 @ 3:41 pm

Bill was disgraced? i don’t think so. Railroaded, hunted, vilified, yes. Disgraced? Hardly. At least not by a blowjob. Maybe by reforming welfare or signing NAFTA. But not by banging whores overlooking hte 9/11 site on the city’s dime. Now, that’s a disgrace.

  44. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

Lefty, that’s exactly right. The only disgrace on Clinton is NAFTA, media deregulation and Rwanda – and he freely admits that taking no aggressive action on Rwanda was a horrible mistake.

  46. Bluestocking says:

Note to Giuliani — when attempting to save your reputation from a brewing scandal concerning accusations of graft and corruption, it’s true that character references from a close friend are by and large a good thing…except when said personal friend is himself currently under indictment for fraud!

Aesop said it best…”birds of a feather flock together”.

  47. Keith says:

    Note to Tucker:
Rudy was parading with his mistress down Broadway in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade! His wife kicked him out of the mayor’s mansion because it wasn’t right the way he kept bringing his mistress home in front of the children. He moved in with a gay couple and slept on the floor (not that there is anything wrong with that). His wife found out about the divorce while watching tv. It was Newt’s wife that had the papers served on her while recovering from chemotherapy.

Rudy keeps saying there is nothing wrong with providing security for the mayor—but he won’t mention that taxpayers paid security for the mistress. He cannot bring himself to say it.
