Gonzales speech canceled: ‘students would not attend.’
Students at Pomona College were considering bringing former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to speak on campus, but have now rejected that idea. “It was a combination of not having the funding and the impression that students would not attend this event,” said Kelly Schwartz, the chairperson of the Speakers Committee of the Associated Students of Pomona College. According to Pomona’s Student Life newspaper, Gonzales “asked the school to pay him $35,000 in addition to first-class accommodations.”

The last time I heard, the First Amendment does not require universities to pay a speaker whatever the speaker thinks he is worth. The fact that you think this is a First Amendment issue is clear evidence that you don’t understand even the basics of Constitutional principles.

NO WHERE in the article does it say the students tried to silence poor li’l Alberto. If Li’l Albie had wanted to speak to an empty hall for free, he could have do so. You have such a reading comprehension problem. Home schooling, no doubt.
As far as coming on stage at the prior event, the students involved didn’t stop Gonzo from telling and retelling and retelling his lies. Gonzo got to spread his full load of fertilizer, as usual, unlike the man recently beaten at a parade by the “Band of Eagles” brownshirts for daring to disagree w/ their heroic stance on Iraq.

It is on the brink of shouldering the burden of the Bush legacy. It’s a university in Dallas, Texas that George W. Bush did not attend.
Why does he want to plant his library and institute there? Because lots of oil money and prestige goes along with an affiliation with SMU. GWB doesn’t need an actual affiliation, he just needs the affiliation.
For GWB to insinuate himself into SMU does a tremendous disservice to all SMU grads and to the truth. The University of Texas rejected dub’ya’s law school application. His father’s library is at Texas A&M, so that’s out. Where oh where will dub’ya plant his legacy?
Well, Yale and Harvard seemed to like him. They both admitted him. Why not either of those places? They won’t have him, that’s why.
Dub’ya is such an elitest that he doesn’t want to mingle with us folks unless he’s kicked out of the major leagues and has to resort to the most elite of the minors.
