On Fox News Sunday this morning, Karl Rove reiterated his false claim that Democrats in Congress — not the Bush administration — forced a war vote prior to the 2002 midterm elections. Despite having being contradicted by former Chief of Staff Andrew Card and former Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, Rove continued to press his make-believe story about how the Iraq war vote occurred.
On the Charlie Rose Show a little over a week ago, Rove said that “the administration was opposed to voting on it in the fall of 2002.” This morning, he changed his tune, saying that it is not true that Bush “was the only person” pushing Congress to vote on the war resolution:
REP. CHRIS VAN HOLLEN (D-MD): Now you’ve tried to suggest, and revise history here, clearly things have not gone right in Iraq, and you have tried to revise history and suggest that the Congress got ahead of the President on the Iraq war resolution.
KARL ROVE: No, that’s not what I said. What I said was that the general conventional wisdom was that the President was the only person pushing the Congress to vote on the war resolution before the November election, and that’s simply not true.
Rove then cherry-picked old quotes from former Sen. Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) that he claims support his point. Watch it:
None of the quotes that Rove used suggested Daschle was desperately trying to force a war authorization vote. A look back at the events in early Sept. 2002 — just prior to the vote — clearly demonstrates Daschle was interested in delaying the vote:
– “In order to ensure that there isn’t any charge of politicization in such a sensitive international and national matter, I think it is critical that we take great care that timing and all other issues are taken into account,” [Daschle] said. [Roll Call, 9/5/02]
– Majority Leader Tom Daschle, S.D., told reporters Thursday that “we’ve got to be very careful about politicizing a war in Iraq or military efforts.” [Baltimore Sun, 9/10/2002]
– “[Daschle] reiterated his fear that having a vote too close to the Nov. 5 midterm elections could warp the debate. ‘I think that in an election, accusations and doubts are raised about senators’ motives and statements … that could jeopardize a thoughtful and deliberative debate,’ Daschle said.” [CQ, 9/12/02]
Daschle said on September 10, 2002, that he was following the President’s lead regarding congressional action on Iraq:
QUESTION: What will you do if the president insists on a vote on the Iraq resolution before the election?
DASCHLE: Well, I don’t think we have much choice but to respect the decision — the request of any president, including this one. But as I say, I think that’s a deliberative judgment that hopefully will be made in concert and not dictated to the Congress.
Bush was quite clear that he wanted the vote before the election, saying in a September 2002 press conference that “we’ve got to move before the elections.” His spokesman, Ari Fleischer, said, “The President does not think that wait until next year is an answer.”
KKKarl should return to the rock that he crawled out from under. His appearance on FoxSnooze was disgusting. If this was truly “GDumbya’s Brain”, it’s no wonder we’re in the mess we’re in. Granted, KKKarl is better than the brain that the Good Lord endowed GDumbya with but not by much.
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:47 amRove is making a complete fool out of himself. Everyone knows what the truth is and they are not going to believe his revisionist history, especially when he says one thing one day and something entirely different the next day. I am somewhat confused as to why he is doing this. Is he trying to clean up his image? There is no amount of cleaning that will ever accomplish that. Keep it up Karl, every time you spout your lies, you make one more Republiscum reconsider voting for someone in their party ever again.
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:48 amThis is all about the Bush 43 Library.
Rove in a desperate scramble to find something, besides ‘My Pet Goat’ for the Presidential Library is vainly trying to create the ilusion of doubt and schism for the 31% who may come to the library after their tour of the ID museum in Kentucky.
The joke will be on them in the end as after entering the Bush 43 Library entree they are told all rooms of off limit restricted to secrecy and they will be escorted out the back door. That or it will be rooms of etcher sketches in which visitors can project their own images.
HISTORICAL COLLOSSAL FAILURE.
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:52 amhuh… imagine that… this story pops up the same time as i’m listening to katrina and george’s round table talking about rove’s LIES of last week…
no surprise… IT’S WHAT HE DOES…
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:55 ampart of “catapulting the propaganda”… not?
…
It’s all part of the republican destruction of facts in the media.
This allows them to smear their foes and cover their tracks.
When they push the he said she said form of journalism in which obamma can be smeared by publishing refuted rumors as just one side of the story, they also can present lies as one side of a reasoned and honest debate.
Republicans, and their trolls can’t exist in a world with truth.
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:59 amPerhaps Karl is auditioning for a spot on Fox or his own radio program.
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:02 pmKarl Rove, Bush’s Josef Goebbels is repeating the lie to catapult the propaganda.
This time next year during the election we’ll hear stories about how George W. Bush was pushed reluctantly into a war he didn’t want to fight by a congress full of war mongering Democrats.

Karl Rove Blames Tom Daschle For 2002 Iraq Resolution
[...]
Yes, the truth finally comes out — the tyrannical, warmongering Tom Daschle was out on the news shows in 2002, beating the drums of war and eventually the Bush administration, with his boot to their throat, relented and let the Democrats have their war.
you know that’s gonna be the latest meme…
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:30 pmbut the wingers have always played the “the dems voted for it” card…
Rove is demonstrating how he got Bush reelected – repeat a lie often and loudly enough, and at least half of this country will eventually believe the lie, regardless of contrary evidence.
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:31 pmThis walking sack of human excreatment will say anything, and is certainly not opposed to lying through his teeth, to drag everyone into his fairy-tale world. Since he is already probably bound for the lower regions of hell, no sense sending him there. Remember KKK lie all you want, but you still have to answer to a higher authority for all the treachery you have caused and the lives lost because of it. Not even asbestos shorts are going to help you.

This is true. The sad thing about it is that the “liberal” MSM is going along with his lies and giving him a forum from which to spout his lies.
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:40 pmThe Bush crime family gangsters are all chronic, serial liars. They turn everything upside down and inside out. December 2nd, 2007 at 12:57 pmWhy hasn’t Rove been arrested yet? Do they not have police at the FOX studios?

Daschle: Congress Denied Bush War Powers AND DOMESTIC SPYING in U.S.
By Barton Gellman
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, December 23, 2005; Page A04
The Bush administration requested, and Congress rejected, war-making authority “in the United States” in negotiations over the joint resolution passed days after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, according to an opinion article by former Senate majority leader Thomas A. Daschle (D-S.D.) in today’s Washington Post.
Daschle’s disclosure challenges a central legal argument offered by the White House in defense of the National Security Agency’s warrantless wiretapping of U.S. citizens and permanent residents. It suggests that Congress refused explicitly to grant authority that the Bush administration now asserts is implicit in the resolution.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/22/AR2
And then…a few weeks later…
W A S H I N G T O N, Nov. 1 A group of military scientists is feverishly examining the microscopic spores of anthrax sent to Sen. Tom Daschle for clues to a mystery that could have profound implications for the United States and its ongoing war on terror: Who made it?

December 2nd, 2007 at 1:33 pmSorry, but Rove is 100% correct. Democrats controlled the Senate in 2002. As Majority Leader, Daschle did not have to put the war resolution up for a vote. Nobody put a gun to HIllary’s or Kerry’s head and told them to vote for it.
December 2nd, 2007 at 1:34 pmAnd once again — with Rove trying to point fingers and “pass the buck” with regard to who’s responsible for a war which has become increasingly unpopular since 2002 — the Republicans only succeed in demonstrating that when they pontificate (which they do often and at great length) about people taking responsibility for their own decisions and actions, it’s clearly a case of “do as I say and not as I do”.
December 2nd, 2007 at 1:35 pmDaschle knows everything, including the fact that they tried to kill him once already. Rove can shoot his mouth off about Daschle without fear that he will respond. Daschle lives in fear.
Anthrax Investigation A ‘Cold Case?’
5 Years, 53,000 Leads, 5,000 Subpoenas Later, FBI Has Nothing On Attacks
WASHINGTON, Sept. 18, 2006
Investigators look for evidence in the anthrax case. (CBS)
Quote
“There are times that we may know a lot about a crime or an event that occurred, but we may not have the admissible evidence that we need to prove it in court.”
Secretary Chertoff
(CBS) Three years ago, FBI agents slogged through the woods to a fishing pond in suburban Maryland, where they hoped to find the hidden lab equipment used in the 2001 anthrax attacks. But, as CBS News correspondent Jim Stewart reports, they pumped the pond dry and even sifted through the mud at the bottom … and found nothing
Five years, 53,000 leads, and 6,000 subpoenas after those attacks, they still have no arrests.
Things are so cold, law enforcement officials tell CBS News, that barring the discovery of new evidence, the anthrax investigation could be declared a “Cold Case” and put in the inactive files.
So who did it? Former Attorney General John Ashcroft once singled out Dr. Steven Hatfill, a bioweapons specialist, as a “person of interest.” But there have been no charges.
Former FBI counter-terrorism executive and now CBS News consultant Mike Rolince says no case has frustrated the FBI more.
“We now know that someone, or ones, can conduct an attack like this and for least the first five years, get away with it,” Rolince says.
The FBI says it remains committed to solving the crime. In a written statement, Joseph Persichini, Jr., acting assistant director of the FBI’s Washington field office said: “Today, the FBI’s commitment to solving this case is undiminished … While no arrests have been made, the dedicated investigators who have worked tirelessly on this case, day-in and day-out, continue to go the extra mile in pursuit of every lead.”
The bureau never had more than scant physical evidence, like the envelopes the anthrax was mailed in, and the terse letters inside – “Death to America” read one – and the spores themselves. But they were never able to trace the anthrax back to the attacker.
“It’s true that a vast majority of the investigation early on was figuring out the science,” Rolince says.
Nor did the administration ever entirely figure out what to do in case of another such attack. Despite a $5.6 billion effort to stockpile vaccines, just a small amount is available. Only the Pentagon has enough on hand for the troops.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff hints no one may ever be indicted.
“There are times that we may know a lot about a crime or an event that occurred, but we may not have the admissible evidence that we need to prove it in court,” Chertoff says.
But the thinking among investigators is more stark: If we can’t agree among ourselves who did it, they reason, how could we ever convince a jury?

December 2nd, 2007 at 1:36 pmIt is just a technique for creating confusion and in the future use this footage as evidence… meanwhile the administration is claiming “sucssess”, “victory” and “mission acomplished” in the occupied territory. Yesterday Perino Bimbo even claimed that the US is there for “freedom, democracy and liberty”… if only!
December 2nd, 2007 at 1:36 pmThe lying is getting more and more frantic, not just from Bush’s thugs, but also from his goosestepping supporters who are lying to themselves.
December 2nd, 2007 at 1:36 pmSorry, but Rove is 100% correct. Democrats controlled the Senate in 2002. As Majority Leader, Daschle did not have to put the war resolution up for a vote. Nobody put a gun to HIllary’s or Kerry’s head and told them to vote for it.
Comment by bikerider — December 2, 2007 @ 1:34 pm
Nope – not a gun…just WEAPONIZED ANTHRAX FROM OUR OWN DOD.
December 2nd, 2007 at 1:37 pmThe anthrax lead RIGHT BACK to the same place the 9/11 funding eventually lead back to: the bowels of the US government. It was PROVEN by the FBI that the anthrax originated from a secret army lab in Fort Dietrich Maryland. Funny how the White House was put on Cipro on 9/10 by the same guy (Jerry Hauer) who sent FBI agent John O’Neil to die in the towers.
Agent Chertoff ran the coverup – just like 9/11.

December 2nd, 2007 at 1:41 pmBush’s Defeated Foe: US Civil Liberty
By Paul Craig Roberts
If anyone had predicted that the election of George W. Bush to the presidency would result in an American police state and illegal wars of aggression, he would have been dismissed as a lunatic.
What American could have imagined that if such crimes and travesties occurred, nothing would be done about them and that the media and opposition party would be largely silent?
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article15703.htm
WHAT INCIDENT SILENCED THE OPPOSITION PARTY AND THE MEDIA?
THE ANTHRAX ATTACKS – THE ONES THE PRESS SEEMS TO HAVE FORGOTTEN EVER OCCURRED.
THE ANTHRAX ATTACKS – THE ONES THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION FAILS TO REMEMBER WHEN PROCLAIMING THAT AMERICA HAS NOT BEEN STRUCK BY DOMESTIC TERROR SINCE 9/11.
CBS News ran a story recently on the ANTHRAX ATTACKS of five years ago. Their newscast stated that there are no leads, and the FBI is considering designating the attacks a “COLD CASE.”
That is a lie.
The anthrax came from a Rumsfeld-controlled DOD facility.
The Anthrax attacks were against the most prominent media talking heads, and against one member of the media who published photos of the Bush Twins drunk.
The Anthrax Attacks were also against Tom Daschle and other Democrats who opposed the invasion of Iraq and Warrantless Domestic Wire Tapping
Rumsfeld ordered it. Dr. Zack did it. It was US DOD Anthrax.
December 2nd, 2007 at 1:41 pmSo I arrive here after hanging out at Americablog for a few minutes reading about, (and listening to), more accounts of gay men’s encounters with Larry Craig. And of course Larry Craig would admit to none of it.
http://www.americablog.com/2007/12/big-story-more-gay-men-describe-sexual.html
And I’m thinking liar, hypocrite, compulsive delusional denier, that sort of thing.
And here’s Rove, in the face of total pushback and disavowal, even from his own side, continuing to push a story that the whole world knows is a f’n lie.
Maybe it’s mental disease. Maybe it’s psycological trauma. Whatever it is. They are stuck in dark boxes where they are comfortable and where they can see things that we can’t, but which have no bearing on reality. Karl Rove is sick. He should be on medication with a very large expanse of green grass around him.
And Rude-E G. Running for President of the U.S.A. talking law, order, fiscal responsibility and security while he knows he gave the go ahead for NYPD to chauffeur around his concubine and her friends and family when the NYPD guys weren’t walking her dog. And running the bills through obscure city dept’s to fuzz up the paper trail.
There’s a disconnect here that goes beyond lying. This is disfunction. Cognitive Dissonance. And it’s a RepubCo thing. It’s more than Kool-Aid folks. Something’s really broken here.
December 2nd, 2007 at 1:46 pmBikerider… the administration lied and lied and lied yet again to get into this oil driven war. By the end of this week, the number of

Everybody else, including the UN inspectors were trying to refreain the US from going into Iraq, because everybody knew that the WMD given to Saddam Hussein by the USA have been dismantled long before the invasion/ocupation! I feel that it is an insult to be compared to Karl Rove

December 2nd, 2007 at 1:49 pmYou know the invasion and occupation of Iraq is truly a fiasco when one of his & Bush’s brain is desperately trying to distance the whole administration (and thus himself) from the decision of undertaking military action against that country.
Back then, they just had to “do this”. Today, well, oh, they really didn’t want to.
I am expecting these warmongers and prevaricators to start telling us they didn’t really have much to do with that decision. What a difference four years make (almost five now, actually).

If you don;t know the History of your own country, you should refrain yourself from getting outraged one someone makes a comment that contradicts what Big Brother or your Dear Leader is telling you! Find out what is “The School of the Americas”, find out what they teach there. It is Torture and Military coups!!!! Nothing about Democracy! And very recently, The US and Israel punised the Palestinian people for having a democratic election!
December 2nd, 2007 at 2:05 pmThe last two elections that took place in the US were rigged! Nothing democratic about that! Two elections were it was obvious that they stole it! And what happens???? Nothing! It is not “God Bless America” any more… it is “God Help America”, “God have mercy of America”!
December 2nd, 2007 at 2:08 pmI never understood the drum beat for a war with Iraq pushed by Bush in 2002 and early 2003. I was there, we all were of those now reading Rove’s lies. How will the country manifest its wrath at this overt treachery now being spouted by Rove? We will write a few comments and move on, no doubt. Instead, why don’t we bombard Reps. Conyers Leahy and Waxman demanding that they forcefully follow up on the ‘alleged’ politically motivated crimes of the Bush administration. Demand full disclosures then pursue closures of all the outstanding investigations.
December 2nd, 2007 at 2:09 pmGet used to the lying, well I suppose we’re already there but in the future the historical record will be massaged by the Republic666an spin machine through constant lies. Thats what dubyas “library” here in Dallas is going to be all about, brought to you at public expense.
Anybody ever been to Nixons library? I understand it offers a warped view of history, painting that pathetically insane lunatic a hero, again at our expense, both figuratively and literally.

December 2nd, 2007 at 2:23 pmIs that supposed to be Mantastic or Mendastic, Captain?
Rove is trying to spin away from the Bush/Straw decision to ignore the UN resolution 1441 and to begin the Iraq war. What Rove is talking about is moot.

December 2nd, 2007 at 2:50 pmHe is determined to rewrite history, probably to add something to the Bush library, and to pander to the 24% of the population who are too stupid to see the truth. Visiting the Bush library should be quite an experience – I expect it will be expensive (Bush needs to fill the ol’ coffers) , there will be few historical documents because everything is secret, but the walls covered with photo ops.
Karl has lied for so long that I question whether he even can speak the truth on any subject.
Looking at the comments from the trolls here, I can see that the twenty-four percenters are, indeed, believing the revision of history, hook, line and sinker.

I prefer the dogs who shoot bees at you when they bark!
December 2nd, 2007 at 4:35 pmS 1959 is ambiguously written, and I am on one of the “conspiracy theory†websites that they mentioned in the House subcommittee meeting.
So with all of that, I have to ask myself, “am I a terrorist

December 2nd, 2007 at 5:38 pmRemember the “math” that was going to keep the GOP in the majority? Wassup with that?
December 2nd, 2007 at 6:54 pmOf course Karl is right about everything. His head is bigger than anyone else’s.
DONT FORGET : part of KKKarl belief is that the “buzz” about a person rewrites and determines history(am I stretching it to far to make comparisons to Plato’s republic where he wanted to invent a rationalization of the social castes based on ancestry?)
. According to this buzz, Reagan, Bush and Bush are the geniouses who saved america from the Red menace and now Al Q. We have won Iraq. Mission Acccomplished; case settled.
This is not an innocent mistake. This is not his mouth outreaching his mind. This is an intentional; effort to confuse the facts in order to rewrite history.

Your comment might just carry some weight were I a Democrat, which I am not.
You keep running away from the fact that Rove is now trying to re-write history, lying about the Bush administration’s push for a vote on a military action against Iraq back in 2002.
Or maybe your reading comprehension skills are a little lacking. Not surprising at all, coming from a 25%er.

Isn’t it time that the traitor Karl Rove was brought to justice? Isn’t it time he faced the music any traitor to his country should face? Shouldn’t execution be on the table for his treason?
